      ahem,.... jewish space lasers. Democrats can control hurricanes. Atheists/satanists eat babies.
      Conservatives love lying and they don't show the remorse or movement towards the truth when corrected or contradicted. The worst thing is that people in the center or the left persist in pretending that conservatives are confused or tricked rather than admit that they are liars. But after 20 plus years, I think it's time for the greater part of society to start treating conservatives by what they support. I wouldn't accept a conservative to do anything but low level work because I don't trust them to be honest.

    When I heard the "They're eating the dogs", I immediately started researching it. It took me about maybe a couple of hours to find out just about everything about the city of Springfield during the last 15 years. At some point Vance stated the murder rate had risen by 81% since the Haitians arrived. What I found out was that the murder rate was actually quite high, but it had gone down from 2017 when the first Haitians arrived (which btw was during Trump's turn). What pissed me off the most was the dehumanizing language. Like everytime they talked about the program, people said "the immigrants were unloaded or dropped off" or stuff like that, implying the federal government was doing some sort of lab experiment there. It's all nonsense. The town was struggling with unemployment, decaying infrastructure and so on. The immigrants actually brought it back to life, but a few years on they had attracted so many that it just got too heavy. So they do have problems with immigration, but not anywhere near to what these idiots are telling people. There is just not enough space, the town is growing too fast. That's it. Why should anyone eat a cat, if he can easily get some burgers and fries?

    • @olzt100

      You are very correct and you did exactly what one should do if they want the truth. Republicans for the last 50 years have heavily relied on scaring people and dividing people simply for the fact most people do not want policies that support welfare for corporations or the wealthy. But they fall for the lies based on their misunderstanding of the world and their personal view is good and bad is by race, gender or ethnicity instead of the systems being unfair and giving on an advantage that others do not. And many of such people claim strong religious values yet their religion is pointing them in an opposite direction from how they actually live and view the world. Your story is heart warming and a revelation that not all humanity refuse to research and use their own intelligence to find truth. You give us hope. Thank you.

    • @thomasw.5344
      @thomasw.5344 2 месяца назад +14

      @@jcprez1290358 My question was rather rhetorical. I know the story Vance told is supposed to fit into this racist trope, you're supposed to connect Haiti to Voodoo, weird rituals, lots of blood and generally cultural incompatibility. Which is, again, nonsense and we've seen similar things more than 100 years ago. But fear combined with ignorance are still the best fuels for human anger and rage 😞
      But as a hobby historian I am also aware, that in times of desperate need, people will eat anything and as a matter of fact, Germans after WW2 who suffered from malnutrition but owned pets, sometimes resorted to killing the cat, shaving it and cooking it. To make the kids eat it, they told them it was a rabbit and called it "Dachhase" (attic rabbit). But this is obviously not the case in Springfield, either.
      tldr
      It really made me angry when I read about the bomb threats in schools and all the unnecessary stress this story put on the people there. Trump/Vance simply don't care about consequences and that's not leadership unless you wanna drown.

    Elon Musk is so backwards on this stuff. He was my hero several years ago. A champion of our nation's neglected space travel efforts, of fighting global warming through the implementation of electric vehicles, and generally of pushing technology forward for the betterment of humankind. But he gradually evolved into kind of a deranged internet troll, more dangerous to the survival of people and institutions than Mark Zuckerberg of "The Facebook Dilemma." Content moderation has a key role to play in preventing genocide, fascism, the spread of disease, and human suffering generally. Outcomes are driven by incentives. Technology leaders need to think seriously about the incentive structures of the platforms they create and nurture. Instead they often are themselves the victims of incentive structures resulting from unfettered capitalism and political considerations.

    Combined with poverty folks are vulnerable. 66.2 % of Americans can't get $500 together for an emergency. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. Then they have to work to qualify for food stamps. They are working 6-7 days a week. Poverty as a Policy Choice has folks feeling rage, anger and despair.

    I disagree that some Republican voices speaking up against the lies of people like Trump, Vance, and Marjorie Taylor Greene is critically important. The fact of the matter is that even when important and highly visible Republicans speak out in great numbers against their lies, Taylor Greene is going to be reelected and support for Trump (at least according to the polls) has been largely unaffected. This even though Trump's own vice president along with his former chief of staff, nearly ever member of his cabinet and those that served in his administration have come forward to state categorically that he is a liar, a criminal, and a clear present danger to the country and to the world. The problem is the greed, stupidity, and moral vacuity of the portion of the electorate that support Republicans in spite of what the say, do, or represent.

    I don't have time to watch but my inner nerd is crying out. Remember, they have done weather experiments but nothing has been published that anything got anywhere. Basically you are limited to the fact that if you have giant high powered radar arrays you can heat clouds (the british realized this back in ww2 while developing radar), and if you have a lot of thick moist clouds you can eat away at/ will disapate them and might produce a lil wind and some rain. Whcih likely will amount to a big whoop all of not much. A lot of effort and energy for zip hardly any effect. And you can seed clouds. Also, huge structures like cities and polution do have efects on weather and climate. Strategic placement of buildings can help increase winds strength and you could use that to improve power output for wind generated electricity. i think that stuff just needs to be mentioned because when you don't clairify -=weather (control)=- vs -=influence=- and the effects of climate change you get weirdo's saying climate change is impossible because humans cant have an effect on the weather.

    Conspiracy without the theory! We should note that rumor details - facts or fact denial - also serve to strengthen social bonds that justify the lies regardless of how outrageous they may be. A kind of "two-fer" dynamic exists, whereby "members of the group" exchange affirmation and non-members labor under assaults of confusions, conflations and fabrications that can affect their life opportunities and choices.
    DiResta's report that the Stanford IO rumor response effort ended shows us just how much energy agents of what is essentially a common thread of oligarchical self-interest - shared by disparate and connected parties alike - will invest to secure their rarified status quo at the potential expense of human survival.

      Simplistic America-bashing is itself the product of self-absorbed ignorance. Try travelling the world -- ignorance is a global commodity, available almost everywhere. The subjects of ignorance may differ though. In Japan, most people under 50 don't even realize the part their country played in WWII. In Iran, Russia, and China, the population is ignorant of sooo much that we take for granted as basic knowledge (and intentionally kept that way). Americans have FAR more education than the populations of every country in the Americas (North & South) other than Canada (where I live). Do Brazil, Mexico, or Chile not count as "industrialized"? The U.S. system of state universities is actually extraordinary -- among the best in the world (think U.C. Berkeley, or UT Austin, etc.). Maybe be grateful.
