- For this album review, glass beach return with a fascinating progressive rock pivot on their sophomore album, full of obfuscation, queerness, and metacommentary.

hey mark, gb drummer here. I really enjoy this take/critique of the record. honestly, nice to see people not fully sold on it give so much thought to it.
i gotta know your thoughts on guitar song seeing it as the only song listed in your "worst song"
Well, that was unexpected...
Glad you like the review, and I appreciate the shoutout! Honestly, with 'guitar song' it came down to a number of little things - it feels a bit abbreviated and lacking a standout moment, the softer acoustics blended with the touches of synth and J's vocals in a way I didn't really like, especially as the cadence kept shifting, and while it does make sense as a breather after 'slip under the door', lyrically it's replaying elements of 'motions' that I think that song delivers more effectively. It's one of those cases where I don't even think it's bad so much as one I like the least, one where I get what it's doing in the sequence of the record and it does capture a certain atmosphere that contextually makes sense especially with its cyclical chord progressions and ouroboros references, but in contrast it's one I would revisit less, that's all :)
totally fair! thanks for taking the time to get back to me. I like your mention here about motions basically "doing it better" for you.
love this!
the one thing i did want to say is that both j and i (gb guitartist) engineered the album, will yip only mastered it.
Can't wait to hear what you think of the great new album by Future Islands.
My only issue with this album is that it feels a bit long, but I also don't know what if anything should be cut.
Solid album even if I feel like I don't like it as much as a lot of people I know seem to.
Welp, new record I need to listen to on top of all the stuff I missed out on last year. Salud.
I have done it! The treasured First!
I can't recommend this album, if it means that I'll end up making a Gorillaz-inspired Freudian slip.
Can't wait for the doldrums of January to be over.
It was not a bad album just too long
