Yes, it's the, "THE ALL-STAR." A new constellation I'd like your help to get the IAU to officially recognize. Seeing as how you've taken on the IAU and won. My idea for changing the stars includes Orion, Taurus and Pleiades (Subaru). Figure it's time to put something up there that's relevant to us, don't you think? Take Orion's belt and "Betelgeuse" becomes the head with a baseball hat. The 3 stars of Orion's belt make up the 3 fat belt loops on a baseball uniform. Below the belt are two legs bending at the knee. "Saiph" is the back foot and "Rigel" is the front foot. The spear pointing at Subaru/Pleiades is the bat and Subaru/Pleiades is the baseball flying away after being hit. "Bellatrix" is the hand that let go and "Aldebaran" of Taurus is the bat's tip. Put it all together and you get, "THE ALL-STAR." In my case, I see a left-handed batter with a, "7," on the jersey. Which makes him, "Mickey." (As it should be) But you can put any number you want, making, "THE ALL-STAR," any player you want. Please help
I recently came back from camping with friends out at the Drakensberg mountains. I felt like an expert amongst my peers helping them identify constellations and some stars and planets. I got all that knowledge from this incredible channel.
How did you learn to identify constellations from this channel? I've listened to a ton of these and haven't ever heard them talk much about how to do this.
I've been telling myself recently that I was never good at science as a kid because I was just scared of it. Now I know it's just way more than I can process. 🙌🏾
Actually Astrology is based on the seasons ! 4 Cardinal signs, 4 fixed signs, 4 mutable signs, changing mostly on the 21st of every month. So the name were taken from then but the positions through the seasons still aligns with today ;)
1:56 😭😭😆😆🤣 Thank you SO MUCH for doing this with each other, dang it!!! Gah!! 11:21 Those potentially begs the question… 🤔 why “the scales” for THAT particular constellation? Like, does it come into play, in terms of keeping it together?? Maybe?? I dunno goes to ask lol
I'm in my 70s and while I was taught that am and pm meant ante-meridian and post-meridian, I was never taught that the meridian was the line in the sky as Neil described it. I thought it was just the fancy way of saying mid-day. Live and learn eh?
I need to add another fun fact before it's too late: This Monday 8th at noon in North America, during the total solar eclipse, we will be able to see ALL THE PLANETS LINED UP (the ones bright enough at least) beside the sun! Starting from Jupiter towards the sun, then Venus, Saturn and Mars - if you connect the dots, you get which line? The solar ecliptic!
When they say, zodiac sign under the sun or the sun spends more time in a zodiac sign, what does that actually mean? The sun defines the day. You can't see the stars during the day. It seem you would have to look at the opposite side of where the sun is and then calculate half way around the zodiac where the stars are during the day to find where you are "under the sun." Are the measurements made at midnight?
I always thinks it’s so funny how flustered astronomers get about the zodiac. I understand that when astronomy and astrology diverged that scientists wanted to do everything they could to separate and discredit astrology so people could know the difference. But, the Zodiacs were never originally attached to any constellations - they were assigned to different times of the year because of the Earth’s seasonal cycles and had completely different symbols than they do now. People only later associated the constellations with specific times of the zodiac cycle to make it easier to identify which part of the zodiac was in season. So, the fact that the constellations slowly move across the sky over time time doesn’t actually discredit astrology the way so many astronomers think. Astronomers often don’t understand the true purpose of astrology and are confused by the concepts because they’ve been so strongly conditioned by the scientific community to discredit it due to that ancient split between the two studies.
Awe Chuck, you missed a good one. When Neil asked you what’s AM’s about, you coulda said, Amplitude Modification and Neil woulda enjoyed that response.
Funny enough, astrology takes this into account and that's why your chart is a snapshot of when you were born but it never stays the same... thus transits through your chart and so forth..

How I remember latidute vs longitude: Picture a balloon that looks like the Earth, with a pencil in the middle pointing towards the surface. As the balloon rotates, if we move the pencil up or down from the middle line (called the equator) at a certain angle called latitude, it will create a line that runs parallel to the equator. This line is also called the latitude. But, if we move the pencil left or right (east or west) at a different angle called longitude and change the rotation of the balloon to be north to south, the pencil will create a line called longitude.
@mrthud1981 Look into Sidderreal Astrology. I think that is what they mean by your star sign is shifted by one constellation. Usually in Sidderreal Astrology, they shift your sign back one. It's the Hindu version of astrology. They go off of the moon precession versus the sun.
The constellation Leo has moved to where the Virgo constellation used to be, so some people will say that you're a Leo. I look at it this way. Let's say you live in one of 12 houses on a circular cul-de-sac. You live in the 3rd house which has the numeral 3 on it. One day you come home and you see there's a numeral 2 on your home and your former house numeral is now next door on house 4. Does that mean you're going to pack up your things and move into house 4 just because it now has the numeral 3 on it? No. You stay right where you are. The addresses [constellations] have changed, but the homes remain the same.

I like how Neil always keeps leaving questions for Chuck to answer showing hes both engaged and knowledgeable, and it does a good job at reinforcing things to learn them. Also it admittedly breaks up neil from sounding like he's ranting over people lol.
The intro is gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
My teenagers love quizzing me on what I remember from high school. I now have some comeback questions for them! Thank you for the information, I never knew what AM and PM stood for until now!
This changes EVERYTHING!!!
Yeah yall need to stop messing with daylight saving times... seems like they are trying to conjure up a new way to leave us false time and dates because of daylight savings times...Leave time alone....
I have been watching the sky since 5 years of age and understood most of what you talked about but learned several things such about am and pm and the dates for precission (my understanding was not as good as I thought 😢)
So thanks to both of you I am a slightly better amateur astronomer to night
After Midnight and Pre Midninght still make sense to me Chuck, u were still on the money 👌
