Abbi, I tried your raindrop stack rings and they came out wonderfully. I don't have much experience with saudering so I was hesitant but you made it look so easy that I couldn't resist. I love them and think you are AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing.
Just found your channel. I’ve been metal-smithing about 13-15 years - TBH The first year I just balled copper and silver for wire wrapped pieces and did some torch fired enameling. I’ve been sick for the last several years .. looking at my torches, rolling mill and machine press without energy. My time in bed though did lead to a lot of ideas. I’m ready to jump back in and I was so excited to find these rings… You are a great teacher … Thank you 🙏
I am uber excited to try this!! My husband is like "you can't do this in the house" so now I guess I will do it in my greenhouse!! When there is a will, there is a way! Thanks for sharing!
I love these rings sooooo much.. but if course I can't follow directions very well and was so anxious to make them that I tried my first batch on a rainy day😂😂😂..... so now I have silver that I need to make pebbles out of. I'm going to try again today... Wish me luck and God bless you😊
Abbie, thank you for showing how you made your ring. I've watched every show of yours and always stared at your ring in admiring it. I also love everything you bring to us every week. Love to see more than what we do. Thank you. Kim🥰
♥️♥️♥️...I have been one of those who have admired your rings for many yrs... I have been collecting the material for the next step I want to advance towards which is metal smithing....thanks for sharing this with us... blessings to you and be safe♥️🙏
I'm a newbie so my question may sound silly. Did you flux the silver before hand? Also can you join them at the back with easy or medium solder so you don't loose them? Thanks so much for your video.
Yep, you definitely can do that, however I personally prefer the look of the rings after they’ve been hand polished with some of the fire scale remaining in the recessed areas. You could definitely use liver of sulfuric afterwards to get the same effect but I just like to skip extra steps where I can lol.
Fabulous video! Thank you so much for the share! I am curious though ~ you indicated that you should only use the thinnest wire. What happens when you use a thicker gauge? I’d love to see them done in an 18 or 16 gauge ~ ! I’ve made balled rings where I’ve soldered the balls on the end of three pieces of 10 gauge wire that I had soldered to my ring size. Then separated the balled wires after rounding on the mandrel. But I’ve not tried this yet. They are so dainty! Again, thank you for sharing!
I don't think I heard "the thinnest wire", what I heard was thinner than 21 g is too thin and if you go thicker, you would need something more than the size torch she was using. With the torch she was using, gauge 21 gave the best results.
I can't recall, was that highly requested or was that on the lower end? I suggest you emphasize these things a little more because I as a watcher am more interested in how many people requested you create this video much moreso than I am interested in learning to make the ring. Could you do a few more videos specifically listing the names of the people who asked for this video to be made? And of course, in addition to their names I think the time/date that they made their request. What format they made their request with- ie internet/in person/smoke signals/morse code etc. I would really appreciate it as would a large part of the population assuredly. God bless you for being there for us, you are really amazing and so giving of yourself unto the people. I'll check back when you gift us the list video I proposed. 🤘🏴☠️
Great question! There is quite a bit of movement in these rings and they are pretty thin, so I find that I don’t have to size up at all, but thankfully with this ring design, if you find that they’re not comfortable, you can always hammer them a couple more times to get them just right.
Love your crafts and your upbeat attitude but I got enough courage to work with fire. I am chicken lol. Is there any other way to make this style of ring?😎👍🦋
Not at this time because of our state mandated shelter-in-place, however you’re welcome to reach out to us via e-mail mid April and we can get your size info to calculate a price for you.
I love this video! I’ve been trying to make these but every time before it balls up fully, the ring band breaks/melts away. Do you have any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong? Thanks so much!
I tried to make the ring unsuccessfully. I may have done several things wrong. #1 I used 20 gauge ds and 20 gauge hh wire. #2 I used some stone tile pieces to work on( should this make a difference?) My wire fused but did not melt into a knot. My wire was Argentium silver. Was this the wrong silver to use?
Argentium silver behaves differently than Sterling Silver. The germanium in it doesn’t retain the heat as well as the copper in the Sterling Silver. You’ll likely need to hold your rings in a third hand, ball/twisted wire side down, and heat the twisted wire from below. That will give you a better shot if you’re attempting this project with something other than Sterling.
I promise it was far far away from my hair! Reviewing the video, I saw the same thing and thought, “I bet at least one person comments about my hair during that flame test clip because of the angle!”
Ha, they’re really not that bad. I just have to do the long safety talk for liability reasons. Once you get comfortable with the torch, it’s like second nature. In 15 years of teaching metals classes, I’ve never once had a student burn themselves. I burn myself cooking way more often than I hurt myself metalsmithing and usually my jewelry making injuries are from sharp metal rather than hot metal.
Really interesting video but i was so nervous for you. I wanted you to pull your hair back when using the torch. Ijs. I havecto start the video again now that ive sent that message. ( i realize im not particularly rational, but i feel better now
My hair was pulled back while I was working with the torch. I didn’t feel the need to pull my hair back while demonstrating how the torch is filled and how to turn it on because it was easily 18” away from my hair. Thanks for your comment and kind words!
They’re not at all. Most of them float freely around my fingers and if they were any looser, they’d fall off. You can probably see that if you watch our videos, but of course, you’re welcome to make them whatever size feels comfortable for you. Thanks for commenting.
I think they look just right but better to be a bit tight than have them come off. Have just come across this video and I commented earlier that its good you can change the number of rings to alter the width or tightness. I think they look great

Newbies, this is the best basics to intermediate video you will find ❤️

Thank youuuu! 🥰
I love you work I love tonight so that's why I want to see you doing this week
Really enjoyed watching
I’m super excited to give it a whirl, I think I’ll have a ball!
I love these.. I just bought silver wire so I can make these... Sooooo pretty ❤

Beautiful rings. Thanks for the tutorial. Can’t wait to try making them!
Glad you like them!

Wonderful demonstration, do you think a cigar torch can bring the same result by heating the wire way longer?
Very informative and easy to follow ! Thank you !
Nice project!
Thank you!
Hermoso trabajo gracias por compartir saludos ❤️
Gracias!
Are the kits still available? You're very talented!
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you.
Thank you!
can you use a torch on all jewelry wire or only sterling silver and copper?
What carat of gold would be best to ball?
Great video!
Thanks!
Sweet rings. Could you dip them in flux before torching it to reduce or prevent the fire scale or wouldn’t that help?
Yep, you definitely can do that, however I personally prefer the look of the rings after they’ve been hand polished with some of the fire scale remaining in the recessed areas. This is a great tutorial. Since stack rings fit like a wide band ring did you go up in size or did you stick with your normal ring size?
Great question! There is quite a bit of movement in these rings and they are pretty thin, so I find that I don’t have to size up at all, but thankfully with this ring design, if you find that they’re not comfortable, you can always hammer them a couple more times to get them just right.
These rings look so good stacked together and the great thing is you can alter the width and tightness of the band at will.
Brilliant
Hi Abbie, can you used 16 gauge wire?
Likely not without a more powerful torch.
@@AbbiBerta thank you for replied! I do have a bigger torch. I will be it a try :)
Love your crafts and your upbeat attitude but I got enough courage to work with fire. I am chicken lol. Is there any other way to make this style of ring?😎👍🦋
Thank you! Hmm... I’ll think about an alternative method and I’ll let you know if I come up with anything!
Could I use copper wire?
Yep!
Do you take custom orders? If so more or less what would a set cost.
Not at this time because of our state mandated shelter-in-place, however you’re welcome to reach out to us via e-mail mid April and we can get your size info to calculate a price for you.
Thank you Abbi. I will do that, stay safe add nd healthy. Prayers for the whole world🙏🙏🙏
I love this video! I’ve been trying to make these but every time before it balls up fully, the ring band breaks/melts away. Do you have any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong? Thanks so much!
Hey there! Thanks! What specific metal are you using? I’d be happy to help you troubleshoot.
Thanks so much! I’m using 21 gauge sterling silver
@@rachelsassaman1475 what kind of surface are you working on?
A small kiln shelf
@@rachelsassaman1475 hmm, okay, next question is are you using a micro butane torch or something bigger?
I love this video! Those things would be a good giveaway!
Thanks!

Abbi Berta Thanks for your reply! I am going to get some sterling silver and try again. Do you use half hard or dead soft?
I prefer half hard but it really doesn’t matter much for this project.
👀 very helpful
Why didn't you pickle the silver? That is not "tarnish" on your rings. It's firescale and should be removed from the metal.
Love it
YYYYAAAAAAASSSS!!!
Haha, thank you! ❤️
💯👍👍
I love all your tutorials but I almost thought your hair was going to get into that blue flame from my trajectory.
I promise it was far far away from my hair! Reviewing the video, I saw the same thing and thought, “I bet at least one person comments about my hair during that flame test clip because of the angle!”
25 mm to a inch
Sounds too dangerous for me to make. lol. But they are cute.

I NEVER OF USING A TORCH & DAWG I'VE BEEN THROWING MY SILVER SCRAPS AWAY
Oh no! Definitely save them from here on out! Thanks for always watching and commenting, Andrea!
You lost me at fire...lol
Ha!

Only thing I do not like is First you Talk about safety but then you don't walk your talk. You did not take your rings of your hand
I mentioned taking off jewelry that could swing down into the project, like necklaces. I don’t see a need to remove my rings during this project.
Very nice tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you!
