If you’re going with LGA 1700 i3s or i5s, by the time you start to consider an upgrade, there will probably be better options on new platforms if your focus is gaming performance. That means it’s less likely for people to just by an overpriced old i7s or i9s down the line. Therefore, getting DDR5 kits for “future proofing” can be less economical.
I have the same doubt whether to go for ddr4 or ddr5. One more thing is important - motherboards that support ddr5 are much more expensive than ddr4, especially if we're talking about higher quality ones. I think the most important thing right now is to go for a new socket (AM5 or LGA 1700), because the current gen will still be supported. Intel changes sockets more often, while AM5 should be ok for a few more years. By then, the price of both ddr5 motherboards and RAM will drop.

About 5-6 years ago i tried building with used parts and it was horrible. I bought 3 different motherboards and 2 PSUs, all of them seemed to gave power problems. Eventually i chucked it all and just got new parts. Of course I exceeded my budget.
Just sold a DDR3 system yesterday, not going to buy those platforms anymore.
@Zach - Is all RAM compatible with every motherboard? Or are there limitations that would cause lower frequency?
no, usually different generations require different boards. there is some cross over with Intel, but with AMD its one or the other
Bro I have a Ryzen 3 3200G and 8 go ram, which is the best graphics card I can get which is relatively low cost?
When I will make my own PC 10 yrs later, I want it to run for 10yrs straight. Nothing less than 10.
Heads up to new builders, remember if you want ddr5, you will need to buy a ddr5 compatible motherboard.
And a cpu to go along with it
Thanks man
DDR4 is not even close to dead I'm still using a mid range system from 2013 on DDR3 and still have no issues playing games from that time on max graphics at 1080p
Still chilling with ddr3
In my country the 4060 8gb price is at the same price as a 3060 12gb what should i get?
Hello! What GPU would you suggest for an i7 3770?
Either a 970 or 1060 or 1650 super
RX 580, RX 5500, or GTX 1660, GTX 1070. Usually AMD GPUs are a lot better for pairing with old CPUs that bottleneck. The AMD drivers are superior when you have a CPU bottleneck.
Then theres me still using ddr3
AM5 would have been half the budget of my 450€ build (rx6600 & ryzen 5600), but I also would have gone with it if I had the extra €
Should people still be using DDR3 in 2023?
Me here, lasting for 7 years with my gigabyte b150m gaming3 ddr3 motherboard and 12 gigs of ram.
and its just me and my ddr3 ram looking each other
Hey that’s my ram at the bottom
I would say it depends what kind of games you will desire to play. If it’s only old or Minecraft, and never playing new AAA games, go with AM4 lol
Zach what gpu should I get for a I3 10100 16gb ram and a 750w power supply
