- Singapore is facing a growing rat problem. The National Environment Agency (NEA) said it detected more than 5,000 burrows in 2023 - an increase of 1,000 from the previous year - and there could be many more undetected.
Steven Chia and the #TalkingPoint team are mapping out rat activity across Singapore and your sightings will help us track where rodent populations are in real-time, pinpoint some of the hotspots, and what’s being done about these pests. Check out the rat map here: cna.asia/ratmap
Share your sightings with us via email at TalkingPoint@mediacorp.com.sg, WhatsApp at 9124 3305, or DM @cnainsider on Instagram.

Me, too! I love him, that’s why I’m watching this even though I’m not Singaporean lol! Help me! I have problem 😅🤣🤣🤣 or your program is just too good 🤣
@@bobafett5757 are you dumb? We can love a celebrity without having delusional ideas of being married to them? Wth is wrong with you? Just like I can love a Singaporean documentary-ish show without being a Singaporean because it’s just that good 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Singapore has a rat problem in our Parliament too. These rats purported to wear white, but they're not clean.
Rich rats living in rented GCBs
Blue too.
Please… Im living in Malaysia…😢
toa payoh legit have a lot of rats. i go on nightly run i can see 3 or 4 running across the footpath to hide in the bushes. last time got one bus stop the entire underground was filled with rats, didnt even know how the bus stop was standing lol
50 toa payoh......big ones caught coming out from drains in carpark! 😮
The rats are MASSIVE as big as my forearm (not even including the tail) Toa Payoh deffo has a rat problem and my house pipes burst because of these idiots nibbling on them 😭😭😭
they can leap very far too? i always see mega sized rats jumping around the bushes at blk 73 lor 4 kopitiam (the one that’s 24h). it’s crazy 😢
Used to stay TPY. Love the place but not the rats.
There was once i went open letterbox and walk towards the lift lobby....1 adult rat literally dashed across from the top my feet....
Blk 263 Toa Payoh has many huge rats the size of a cat and they run really fast too. In the evening you can see rat gatherings occurring lol please do something about the rat situation in Toa Payoh 😭
2:22 HAHAHA the meme!
😂
@@muhammadzhafranbahaman6401brudder ehhhhh
I don't even live in Singapore and I love watching him.
Velvet Underground 😂😂 Love that!
Its Rat Velvet Underground
Yes they are everywhere. It seems to coincide with making our environment greener as it creates places for them to live in. Once I even saw an uncle feeding a rat nest at midnight and I reported the matter to NEA but I don't think I receive any reply
2:26 got 1 rat running behind you!
Nah thats a leaf
leaf
*Cant wait for the full episode to be Rat-lease and it will look Ratiliciously informative and yup thats a Rat-Velvet Underground partying in there*
the rats are getting bigger!sometimes can mistake them as cats...😂
Steven never disappoints!
oh yeah!! basically a quest to map and catch all pikachus!
Honestly, last year I saw many rats at my school. This year, I’m on the secondary floor so I don’t really see them anymore but when I walk around the first floor, sometimes I can see some and they are really fast
In Serangoon ave 4 there are rats at night, you can hear them squeaking but I don’t hear them anymore.
*Serangoon area has lots of rats especially at night cos many times I have seen it and its a huge rats looks very scary to me*
The question is what are you doing here
@@jessicaregina1956 Please stop Ratotoulite over here 🤣
The question is what are you doing here
Every single time I'm in Serangoon Central, especially at night, there are always huge rats scurrying around.
@@jessicaregina1956 What about YouCrane ?
Serangoon north area had sighted of rats at night. Coming out of the drain and went near the rubbish dump. MacPherson area as well. Had rats running at night near the park connector and around the estates.
The rats around Serangoon really huge and fat
Bedok Central has lots of rats.
There is also crow infestation too
Along Jurong East Central, near to future Toh Guan MRT. The landscape area under the MRT viaduct is the base camp of rats!
Under mrt tracks don't have? When I used to spend weekends there, a common sight was the food and beer cans left by foreign workers nights out. All these "left over" food are feeding the rats and birds. Jurong / Boon Lay birds are fatter than those you can see in town area lol
@@Gerrynade This, and the disposal areas of food venues.
There’s a rat hole at the grass patch near the trash compactor of my HDB in woodlands that’s been reappearing for the past 4 years. The cleaners cover it with soil, paper and even concrete but the rats still manage to chew through 🤦🏻♀️
Hoy Fatt rd Blk 50
I’ve seen few tine big fat rats running away/around.
But meanwhile,Is there any way I can do to trap/catch/destroy it 1st?
Underneath the broadwalk along the Boon Tiong Road (beside block 9 Tiong Bahru) is rats haven. Contacted NEA, they took action but still a lot!! The broadwalk is pretty but a nightmare for residents living in the walk up SIT flats.
Come Boon Lay. They r all over the market areas . Especially near the rubbish chute area.
Serangoon Garden at the back alley behind Sushi Tei and the surrounding areas. Reported to NEA for years but the rats always come back after awhile.
From my dad: I have given them the info.
Caught in total more than 80 rats lately around the vicinity of BLK 14A, 8B and 15. Toa Payoh Lorong 7
i remember your topic about birds as a pests in hawkers and u called it rats with wings
Try Gaint mago store at Tampines. Just saw it last week.
Jalan Bukit Merah 132 row of shophouses, the drains have rats
omg. i saw one today but I dont have a video for it.. it happened so quickly.
Question is what is the town council under the GRC going to do about it?
Nothing by the looks of it. Look at spore. Trash everywhere. People are do brazen littering. Nothings been done!
I've seen rats during the river safari boat ride too. I wonder how they can deal with it since its erm a zoo.
I have seen some shrews at the lawn next to Tpy Blk 2. Don't mistake them for rats!
Singapore needs street cats.
In spite of all this rat problem the authorities are cutting down on cleaners. Every weekend cleaners will take the day off. One day a week. Then residents have to clean their own surroundings. ! How many will willingly put in their sweat and do a good job?
My daughter’s house at Blk 53 Jalan Mamor. Rats came in and nibble holes in her rice container. Their trap caught 2 rats. Their neighbour’s blind also got bitten.
I just completed my feedback to HDB to replace the drainhole cover in the block next door coz the hole has been there for weeks. This problem is due to complacency.
It's also about birds and cockroaches around hawker centres.
The reason is not hotter weather. Rats don't care if it's 28 C or 34 C. They live underground, and mostly come out in the evenings.
Singapore is not anymore as squeaky clean as it once was, and some people seem to have a lack of understanding of this being a problem.
I was anticipating him interviewing the NEA officer to see what is their take on the issue as well as their strategy for resolving the issue.
Very likely the response was; not the fault of the rat or the agency. Must be something else that is very difficult to explain like the weather etc. So there is nothing they can do.
Still monitoring the situation
100 years later. "still monitoring". Is there an award for the "least efficient agency" or a "not my problem agency" award?
Any solution?
When ..zouk had velvet underground….😂😂😂😂 he is so funny
in Singapore u can see rats every where because we are a rat-race society.
Pigeons problem in TPY too, on that same Muslim food stall in this video.
They hv released Pythons to tackle Rats problem, thats y u see Pythons more frequently
I once saw a big rat go number 2 on the sidewalk, then was also a pee dripping behind as it ran away too, yuck!
a gen z edited this video and i'm here for it
I didn't get the joke of velvet underground 😂
Is it Splinter (from Ninja Turtles) looking for his mates? What episode of TMNT is this?
"Are there people dealing with the rats?" Reported to NEA once when I spotted a rat infestation they told me it was caused by someone or something else and they will do something about it. But guess what, do you think they are actually dealing with?
They won’t do anything till it goes on mothership
Maybe when someone kicks the bucket due to this issue, then someone responsible will get up to stretch their legs or start some workout to lose some weight?
Ya I tell you man nowadays all the government agencies are just too lazy.. they don't take any proactive action until some residents complain.. then they investigate.. useless really
Any plan on the crows? They’re are already standing on my kitchen’s window
Boon lay has got a lot ! They are quite fast tho
Dempsey Hill many rats in the old buildings, singapore Zoo staff area
every wet market 200% sure have rats. u dont need a map for that
There are quite a few rats in my condo
This is why Singapore is so clean! Because every where, there are rat problems, but most places would rather hide and pretend it’s not a problem/existed. Whereas Singaporeans are like bring it on!
Rat can climb tree, water pipes too. I from jateng
JALAN BESAR NEAR THE NTUC. i can even hear it when i am gg to sleep

telok blangah crescent near the lickers shop.
They have very huge and fat ones. One of the dirtiest place ever
I think i saw New york has some very serious rodent issues too. Even on their subs :)
Why worry about losing your job. There's always delivery, security and PHV jobs.
1. Made it an offence to feed stray cat at night.
2. When cats are well fed, they don’t catch the rats.
3. Rats will eat the left and flourished what the many aunties fed to the cat.
4. Walk around my blocks at Bukit Purmei at 10pm till 4am and that’s when the rats will come out to party. (Hokkien call it ‘boh ceng hu’). The rats come out roam as they like!
5. The cats are sleeping.
6. The Residents’ Committees seems to be sleeping too.
Cats don’t hunt rats to eat. They hunt them for “sporting”. And cats do help to deter rats and reduce rats population.
1. Cats hunt rats for sport, not for food. If the cats are hungry, how would they have the strength of hunt rats? 2. The Aunties feed at night so they do not trigger obnoxious and ignorant Karens who think they have the right to stop others from feeding just because they do not agree with it. Have seen many cat aunties being bullied by such Karens (including males).
ive seen cats lose to the rats since the rats gang up on the cat and since the rat is also kinda huge like 60% the size of the cat. they come out usually 11pm onwards to feed on the cat food people leave for the cats.
@@ainzooalgown7589we need bigger cats 😂
Velvet Underground… 😂🤣🤣🤣
I had warned that when you start charging for plastic bags, not many would bother to bag their refuse anymore.
We had come a long way in getting people to bag their refuse back then.
Too bad some unthinking policymakers got fooled by St Greta.
It's not about plastic bags. They are smart enough to bite through plastic bags, and potentially even tougher packaging materials
😂The rat problem came way before the plastic bag charges. I still rmb Low Thia Kiang even talking abt the “rat hill” in his rally speech, which is defn years before😂
@@Gerrynade
Refuse left open is worse lah. The bags serve to contain a bit.
hey Steve, btw I think Canada was voted one of the worst places in the world for rats, maybe you should come here to make a show :)
Come to Paris guys, we have 2 millions rats for 1 million inhabitants! 😂
Cat feeding and pigeon feeding
A lot of pests and problems
Most big cities have rat problems, New York has a HUGE rat problem.
New York is said to have more rats than people. But they have done something, it's not anymore as bad as it once was.
Also, since most western countries use underground drainages, the problem is not as present.
@@krollpeter good point.
I think the show can be called Rat Radar 😎😎😎
