- My traditional clothes the "Kandoora" is a strong part of the Emirati identity, I wear it every day proudly and people always identify me immediately as someone from the United Arab Emirates, however how much of my identify is linked to what I wear, I went around Dubai asking people where I was from while I wore the traditional Kandoora and then changed into casual clothes to see where people would think I was from, here is what they had to say.

When he asked “what about from the inside” and she answered “I don’t know” that’s really something that more people should know also, Nobody will be able to tell what personality you have from the inside, appearance play a big big role in our identity and what we want people to see.
I thought it was an unfair and stupid question as she doesn't know him so how can she know what's in the inside.
Defining people according to their look is not something wrong. It's wrong when you treat them differently when you judge them by the way they look. There is a huge difference between defining and judging.
Even defining is not accurate. You can wear whatever clothes but that doesn't 'define' you... if you know what I mean.

Yeahh.. I am totally agree with you... It's the people who decided to act/ wear specific things... That cultural do this to build it's identity... And as person of that group you follow them... So people identify you as a part of them... Nothing wrong in it... We can guess who the person is.. but it's not necessary to act according to our first impression... We can slow down a bit, understand a person and then only can shape our behaviour towards others.

Yea but we can't judge by dress.....for example my wife is indian origin but Singapore born and citizen.... people think her as Indian citizen,she is part sikh and like covering her head with dupta at times and confuse her as muslim in marituitus where we have house.

If a man dress a thawb, he clearly wants to be recognized as a Arab, even though he may not be. He could be a tourist. But either way, he must be willing to be integrated and recognized by his dress. I don’t think this is judging.

This message is really true! Because I can relate despite being a Pakistani I'm very often mistaken for being Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc even though my ethnicity is Pakistani , it sometimes breaks my heart when people judge you based on how you look
Well you can simply correct them and if even after correcting them they still judge than that's an issue to be feel down about. Check your genetics there might be traces of Chinese/Japanese gene

@ Khalid Al Ameri I totally agree with the idea that we should not judge a book by its cover. But in this case it doesn't make sense.
it is not a positive or negative judgment. It is simply based on how people dress in different countries. There is nothing negative or positive about that. It is simply a fact that the Arabian style differs from the western style of clothing. And .. often Arabs dress arabic and westerners western.
It would make more sense if you had used the metaphor (don't judge a book by its cover) to ask people what they think someone's personality (the book) is, purely based on the outer appearance (the cover).

A cover should give u a first impression what the book is about. When you're searching for a horror book you would look for a dark cover and not a cover with unicorns and rainbows, i guess. But honestly, idk xD

I think the point he's making is that yes the cover of the book gives the first impression (which is fine) but that is not what everything the book is...there is a lot more to it, it's nuanced. Humans are like that too. We have first impressions of people which is fine but those first impressions are not all the person is, he/she has a lot more to them.
on the other hand,I love to look like I'm from Scandinavia,because I AM from Scandinavia,so I am happy when people judge me by my looks!!(wich they do quite seldom,they always guess I'm from the Netherlands..)
