I have a similar problem, the Mechanic recommended replacing the entire front axle. He claims the noise is coming from the 'tripod'so I can replace one side only. Any thoughts?
I changed the front driver axle and it went away. But I am hearing the same noise in the passenger side too but it is not as much as the one that I just changed. You should change the one that make a lot of noise then listen if the other one does the same and change it in the future.
I have the same issue. Only clicking on driver side. Did you fix it ?
TECH87 I did. I replaced the axle entirely. The noise drove me nuts and was much worse the car had been sitting or was cold.

How much did cost you? And is it dangerous if I wait a lil longer to fix it?
Well, if it snapped when you're climbing parking ramp. Then yeah, it's a disaster.
