USPS shipping delays traced back to Indianapolis distribution hub

- A month after 13News first reported on delivery delays with the United States Postal Service, customers say it’s still happening.
Over the last several weeks, 13News has received dozens of calls and emails about packages being stuck at the USPS Regional Processing Center on Indianapolis’ east side.
One customer said he watched his package bounce around from different USPS facilities for weeks. It first arrived in Indianapolis on Jan. 8 before being shipped to Fort Wayne and then back to Indy again on Jan. 19, where it has sat since.
Someone else said their package has been sitting at the facility for nine days and counting.
13News first reported on this problem in December. At the time, many thought it was due to the holiday shipping rush.

Thank you for covering this again. Theyre the worst. Everytime packages leave nora post office and get there its always bad. And they keep charging more. Lol
Congress needs to take up the USPS and rework the entire service, clearly a bunch of over paid bureaucrat managers and executives need to go.
Trump appointed DeJoy and it has been a nightmare ever since like everything he touches
thank you for reporting on this!
Please follow up
The entire usps delivery service is a joke. Why keep routing stuff to that distribution center when it's making it's wag across the country. Absolute morons
Right
People depend on USPS. In rural areas or for the elderly, it is the only way.
Any issues, blame Dejoy. He's the main problem.
Absolutely agree!!!
My package has been stuck there for a week with a bullshit weather alert exception
Same here
same
Same here
The weather exception alert is on all my packages I send out and there's no bad weather lol. I'm kn the east coast
Me too. Just let UPS take it over at this point...
Blame Dejoy for all this bullshit ! I work at this facility now as they shut down the other facility near the airport and it’s beyond madness ! Dejoy has opened all these RPDCs and they all are having the same issues…at our old facility we didn’t have these issues, trucks weren’t lined up around the building and we cleared all the mail that came in every night…this is my second week at the new facility and the way it’s designed it’s horrible…they hired all these new people that have no clue about mail processing instead of bringing in senior people like myself to jump start the new building, management is lost and confused, most of the supervisors have only been working for the post office since the building opened ( less than a year) this building was supposed to be able to handle all this mail but…they have a huge machine that takes up half the building and is supposed to process 64k pieces per hour and their not getting anywhere close to that…it’s mail EVERYWHERE like it’s peak season but we’re almost into February…this shit was a huge mistake
Wow that's so fucked up. Welp I know you don't really care and they probably don't care about one single customer but I'm not using them no more
Amen! I pray for the people that work there.
@@IStaySt0n3d_OSRS actually I do care…management tells me all the time they wish they had more people like me that cared and have pride in their work…I’m a fragrance enthusiast and also do a lot of shopping online since I’m always at work so I depend on usps just as much as the next person does…if I see a piece of mail that fell out of container onto the floor I stop to pick it up and make sure it goes where it’s supposed to because who knows that could be my package…so yea I actually do care…
Can u help us get packages? Lol definitely pay ya for the help
@@ZanderC1214at the old facility I could…this new building is so damn big I’d never find it even if I knew what area it was in
I use to work in Indianapolis and they have trailers full of mail sitting for days.
I live in Indiana, my package was in Indy. Left Indy and got sent to NEW YORK and then BACK to Indy. Now just sitting in Indy. I’m fed up.
I live in Indy. My 1st package was supposed to come on Jan 22nd. Has been THERE ever since. Got a 2nd package in Texas now -- it hasn't moved since last Monday.
Welcome to the new America -- where you can always count on.... hyper-expensive, never on time, and being REALLY EFFING PISSED OFF ABOUT IT. Well, unless you're on a decent amount of SSRIs. Then, you just don't give a f***.
Hey, hey!! ** raises hand ** That's me, I'm on SSRIs, and I don't give f***. LMAO!!!! 🤣😆👍👍
I've had a couple time sensitive packages stuck at this distribution center for over a week now...
I've got 3.items off ebay in the last month and each time, it is smooth until it hits Indianapolis. Then it is in transit arriving late for days.
It’s terrible!!!! I got something from London, England faster than one from Texas which I still haven’t received.
Wow
My package has been on a tour of distribution centers since mailed on the 16th! Left Kent Ohio, hit Indy, then Akron, came back to Indy, then went to Pontiac Michigan, then got delayed to weather, was going to be here today, now its lost! Ain't got it by the 5th hit Amazon up for your money back!
me too!
I'm not using USPS no more. How am I supposed to get a package delivery last Monday. They just let me submit a claim today, and it said that if my package is not here and the issue was not resolved within 3-4 business days to submit a claim again.... Bitch what?! I have to wait 3 weeks to submit a claim for you to "do" something about it?! And we all know you're not going to do absolutely anything.... Maybe what? Offer me a free 5 postage stamps for letters?!
NEVER USING USPS AGAIN
Thanks for reporting on this. I have three packages that have been stuck in Indy since 1/16. No sign I'll be getting it any time soon.
"Moving through network" aka the Indianapolis post office 🚮🚮🚮
Thank you for this! I ordered a package that came from Texas, got stuck there in Indy and then went to PA - I LIVE IN INDIANA!!!!
Mailed a guitar to Indiana and it sat in a hub for over a month. This was back in November. The Guitar didn’t even make it on time for Christmas and there’s nothing you can do about it. Packages just sitting forever there.
Hopefully it wasn't the 1959/1987 APD signature model Les Paul!
😎
Doesn't surprise me , Thank You Louis DeJoy
I guess they shouldn't have closed the old package processing facility in Indy at the beginning of January if the new one wasn't staffed and ready. Typical postal nonsense
I worked at that one and now I’m at the new one and you are correct…I have a feeling that if usps still is leasing that old building they will open it back up…prior to them closing our building they were sending us trailers from the new building to help them process it so why they would think that it would get better after shutting us down is ridiculous
Sooo… basically I am not ever going to receive my package either. WOW! 👏🏽
Why is everything going through that hub split it up so one is not overwhelmed and instead of bouncing packages past their destination only to have to come hundreds if not thousands of miles back to the final destination that would probably eliminate alot of backlog too
I've tracked shipments and seen packages reverse track, and travel through the same facilities they were at days before. It's a ridiculously inefficient system.
A relative lives in Loogootee and sent me a Christmas card on Dec. 17- it arrived on Dec. 27. Loogootee is 2 hours South of us, total incopentance.
It's not just Indianapolis!
USPS and FedEx are running neck and neck. It's a damn shame.
Agree!!! But Fed Ex may be just a step up maybe! If I could choose I wouldn’t use anything other than UPS!
Guess this is why it took 3 weeks for my package to go from Indy to Ft. Wayne.
I'm having this issue sending from NYC to Indianapolis Indiana to my senior mother I will be using the UPS store for the future package happy birthday Feb 10 mom Betty ❤️❤️❤️❤️🗽🗽🗽
Happy Birthday, Betty! Today's the 5th, hope your gift arrives by Monday!🎁🎂🎉
It’s not just Indianapolis. My mother’s Rx took 20 days to arrive. It sat at the Dallas distribution center for 9 days and then they shipped it back to IL where it came from to return to Dallas and finally reach our mailbox. Thankfully her dr had samples to tide her over. I’ve had other packages get stuck in Dallas as well.
I ordered something Skyrim related off Etsy for my boyfriend’s birthday and Valentine’s Day and my package is stuck there. Said it was supposed to be delivered last week on Wednesday but it never said “out for delivery”. Now it says “arriving late”. In fact, the seller sent me the link to this video and is just as frustrated as I am. But they offered to send another one via a different carrier if I don’t get my original package soon so that’s good. This USPS hub needs to do better or just shut down.
It's the same way in San Antonio Tx. Where mail is hid when inspections are going on.. Once the coast is clear, you have 10 tractor trailers of mail brought back to the work room floor.
Exactly, what you said. I'm currently tracking a package that should have been to my accountant. No scans since it left local post office.
Last year, my tax package went back and forth from my local post office and Indianapolis 4 or 5 times. Indianapolis kept kicking it back to my local post office. I managed to catch it on it's rebound at the local post office. They sent it " under cover" from their post office to the destination's post office. That was the only way it arrived at it's destination. I just dread anytime my mail/packages have to go through Indy.
I shipped 2 international packages to the same person on the same day (January 10). one of them arrived a couple days ago, perfectly on time, the other one is still stuck in Indianapolis smh.
I had somebody ship me and three other people packages. Only one person got theirs.... What's even worse is mine is stuck in New York in New burgurgh. I filed a claim and they say oh wait 3 to 4 business days. If you package is not there and the issue is not resolved then contact us again..... BITCH WHAT??? So after 3 weeks (when it's supposed to be 2-4 business days, is when you will finally "do" something?! And I can guarantee you they're not going to do anything to fix it... Probably won't even give a refund.... Just going to say sorry and that's about it. Maybe give me a few postage stamps or something....
I'm not using Usps no more
@IStaySt0n3d_OSRS same. next time I'm going to use a different carrier.
How many items gets broken the way they just dump the packages? 😡
They don’t get broken from that like you would think…I work there
The official statement is standard fluff, "we're committed.." . The union answer is standard fluff, it's management's fault and they need to hire more people. I am surprised he didn't say they need a raise. Basically, the reporters were happy just getting a statement but we still don't know why it's slow.
I’ve been with USPS for 10 years and work at this facility, the union guy is pretty much right…for one the building was designed terribly, management or lack there of is a big issue and always has been that’s nothing new…you can literally become a supervisor within your first 90 days with little knowledge of mail processes…they did a mass hire at the building when it opened and now most of their supervisors are people that just started months ago…they have people just the wrong people…the facility I worked at just closed so they moved us all to the new building along with all of our trips and it’s a mess…they should’ve put the employees from the old facility in there first and then added the new hires but like everything else they never do what makes sense
From a carrier, not in this area, we absolutely detest our sorting facilities. They screw us all day long.
What can be done to fix it?
@ no idea. Don’t work there just know they create lots of problems for local offices all day long.
I have 10 grand worth of parcels stuck there. Customers not happy, might cost me my business for the month
I’ll be using Fedex from now on. Expensive, but not completely stupid at least
Ill sign up to work there
Thank you!
I have a package stuck there right now. It’s disheartening to know it may be much longer if it ever even arrives.
Seems to happen every time I use USPS to ship or get shipped to. I've decided to get used to knowing that I have to file a missing package claim before it will get delivered. Coming from Salt Lake City or going through KC doesn't seem to matter, as it will get lost.
At this point, I think I like UPS more than USPS.
Oh lovely, I have a package being shipped from Montana to Cleveland that is now sitting in Indy.
The boss there should be fired immediately..the mail is terrible it takes anywhere from 8 to 10 days to get mail from Missouri going to Illinois now that is outrageous
It's not just Indy louisville is in the same situation, and I'm sure it's like that everywhere.
Having trouble getting my bills
You can get almost all bills online now -- print them -- and pay them there as well. I prefer paper bills, or at least print copies for my records, but in this case, I guess I'd start getting everything online. Can't rely on the post office no more.......
Their fault, usps will turn down your application but need help..😑
I have a order before coming before Christmas and I am still waiting for it.
I really need my dryer part and it’s been weeks!
Everyone must forget they decided the regional hubs were better then sorting mail at every post office. Ever since they put them in service in the late 90s they have gotten worse every year
I love our local post office. They always solve any problem in their jurisdiction. They have been extremely helpful.
I dread mailing anything that has to go through Indy.
I wish we could get rid of the USPS or at the very least refuse service from them. We have to have everything mailed through another service because we can’t get our packages and they make it impossible to get your money back.
You hope you can pawn it off on the seller to get reimbursed or refunded but that also takes a GOOD seller. If not forget it and you lost your money and the item you paid for and ordered. In non Union and non Government jobs you would be fired for this gross display of incompetence. It's a joke to them especially to all the Dumocrats, DEI hires and LGBT employees.
My package went from there to new Jersey and back then it went to Detroit and back. Still waiting for it
Blame the post master General....he dont understand the old way was the only way
It happens in Iowa too.
60% of all mail gets delivered
Had one go to California and supposedly got shipped back to Indy destination was Cincinnati
I have a package that's been stuck in that facility for 10 days and counting.
My laundry dryer belt has been there for 6 days now.
Not just an issue in Indiana. Mailed a package from Colorado to Tennessee almost a month ago and it never arrived. They keep telling us it’s in transit but they can’t locate it. I went on the USPS Facebook page and found others all over the USA having the same problem so it seems to be a nationwide issue. Never again will I use the USPS to mail packages! FedEx or UPS will get my business!!!!
Let's face it....UPS should probably take over the USPS. It would be much more efficient, and save the taxpayers tons of money.
United States Postal Service (USPS) does not receive tax dollars for its operating expenses. Instead, the USPS is self-funded by revenue from the sale of stamps, products, and services.
@@video-z3n So who covers their 2024 fiscal-year deficit of $9.5 Billion?
Same problem in St.louis USPS location 10+ days
That is also happening in Cuba, Missouri. Because my packages keep getting delayed as well
All valid but still doesn't explain why a package went from my little town to Indy to Gastonia NC, To SEATTLE then back to the East coast to Hanahan SC. My tracking looks like this every time.
I'm on the east coast and I ship out items all the time and order also often. Many packages lately have been taking longer than it should. I pay for priority 2 day and it takes 7 days
Two reasons for the delays...
Ready for it:
BLACK
EMPLOYEES
Dumocrats
DEI Hires
Unions
LGBT employees
My package that’s holding my Aunties urn was shipped out from California and made its way here from CALIFORNIA with all their wildfires in 3 days. Arrived in Indianapolis on the 27th and it’s been in transit ever since then on day 7 now. California with everything they are going through got their job done! What’s Indianapolis’s excuse?? It’s hard enough losing her let alone waiting to get her urn to get here!!!
They should hire volunteers 💯💯
Committed, huh? We'll see.
Committed to stupidity…I work there and they don’t know shit at all…they literally turned new hires that have only been there for a few months into supervisors they don’t know shit about what going on…I’ve been with usps for 10 years so and I have a had to point out so much shit to them…why would they open this facility and not bring in the people that have been there for years to get it up and going…instead they do a mass hiring of a bunch of young people with no experience no drug tests probably no background checks and they staffed the building with them…they have closed our old facility and moved all the people like me out there…they did it backwards we should’ve been out there first and then bring in the new hires and let us train them…it’s all just backwards and stupid
Mine came in today. It took 2 weeks to go from Indiana to Kentucky.
I had a package that went to that facility in August 2024 and I still haven't received it. I just don't understand how it was scanned in there and never left that facility
The Columbus Ohio Distribution center is also a high problem. Almost all my packages get lost or delayed there over the last few months.
As a postal worker Id like to hold the public accountable. Clean up access to your mailboxes and save billions across the board. The public slows the post office down. Routes are treacherous.
WTF? LOL! This has absolutely nothing to do with how mail is handled in the distribution centers. 😂🤣😆😭
It has taken 2 weeks to receive a letter from California to Indiana. They need to fix this problem ASAP
Simple. Hire some workers
Nobody wants to work anymore. Privatize this waste of time USPS.
It’s been at this facility since January 28th😮😮😮
What to do I returned a package back to Ebay? If the delayed pass the return window period, will I still get a refund?
I am one those with stuck packages, but it's not just from the Midwest/Indianapolis...I believe I have had stuck package issues stemming from multiple hubs...🤔
Oh don’t forget to add in theft also
Yep, I just had twelve 5 pound ingots (60 pounds) of 99.8% pure Pb lead stolen last week. I got an empty box cut open and all the contents removed. That was $155 worth of material USPS employees blatantly stole. This is no "accident" and they are just sore because of Trump winning and doing it on purpose.
I can tell you it's been going on since late November I waited 15 days for a Bible for a Christmas gift.
Trump needs to sign an executive order to abolish the post office. It’s useless and a money drain.
Very terrible service! I sell on eBay was terrible for customers in December the worst service
These mega facilities delay the mail.
They lost my daughter's ventilator and she could possibly die because they lost her ventilator. I don't know what to do. This is a nightmare no parent should have to go through. I'm really afraid that my daughter will die because they won't do anything.
Wherever you are at -- ask for a social worker or child advocate to be assigned to your daughter to help track it down or get her a new one. If she has ANY KIND of long term illness -- she should be on Medicaid and a social worker should be assigned to her case -- and helping you negotiate things like this.
You SHOULD NOT be dealing with this -- someone who knows something about the medical / insurance system should -- they can get things moving faster -- they should be able to order another one and have it sent another way -- maybe have it flown to where you are, who knows. You need someone to put a FIRE UNDER THIS.
Prayers, hugs, lots of love, and strength to you and healing energy to your precious daughter. 🙏💪💝🙏
USPS is the worst!!!! I know anytime I order something and I get a shipping confirmation and see it’s being shipped USPS I can just about guarantee there’s going to be a problem!! I’m waiting on a package as I type this that was supposed to be delivered January 31 but it’s now February 4th and has been sitting at Indianapolis since January 9th! I wish when you order something that you could choose the shipping method!
Affirmative action strikes again.
My package has been there over three weeks now. I’m never getting my package lmao.
Postal service, Amtrak, and Zelensky. More money, all we need is more money and the world will be right!
Why can't they clean this mess u? I aam a mail handler & could have handle situation better them pmg!!!
I been waiting for my PC since last Friday
And people think the government can manage healthcare 😂 Such a joke.
They've lost two of my packages in the past month.
I moved from the Southwest to Southern Indiana about two years ago. I've learned how backwards it is here.
The civil engineering/roadways are beyond belief. Stop lights are not synchronized, property taxes are high,
totally unprepared for winter weather, WATER is more expensive than in ARIZONA, electric and natural gas are
also expensive..... Signs should be posted at major roadways into the state, SET YOUR WATCHES BACK 50
YEARS, you are entering farm country.......
I work here, they are incredibly unorganized
They will be incredibly fired if they don't get this resolved soon! Papa Trump is coming for you.....
Ha, no wonder my shiny new chonk dice were stuck in Indiana...
Doesnt sound committed to me
my car part been there for a week
Lol they don't care. They've lost me hundreds of dollars worth of packages.
They don’t have enough personnel they buy them fired or quit.
Like elected leaders actually give a damn about all of the delays.
Get Trump to work.
DEI strikes again.
The worst
