    Small hole drilled in both parts to be joined, large enough for a panel pin to fit in the hole, then glue together using jbweld (much stronger than superglue), out of interest how much was the replacement part ? So basically jbwelded with a panel pin embedded

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  Год назад +1

      Replacement part was over $200 including shipping so the jbweld is probably a much better idea

      @@SaabUnleashed yeah but the pin needs to go in too, makes a huge increase in strength, glad you got it sorted tho with the replacement

    My 9-5 NG 2010, had a similar issue but it never turned over with the handbrake locked I did check the lock module no rattling, turned out it was the third battery lead which runs across the top to a fuse box had corroded, easy fix give it a clean, I had mine done by garage including software upgrade cost £390 ouch, if you know you know, if you don't it costs 👍

    My 9-5 has suddenly developed this issue. Watching this video and reflecting what I did prior to this fault manifesting.
    Here's what I believe is the culprit.
    When you power down the steering lock activates when the drivers door is opened. ( not until )
    What do you do when you open the door?... You get out.
    As you get out of the vehicle you naturally grab the steering wheel as a steady.
    In doing this as the lock7is being applied puts excess pressure on the unit, which eventually, through fatigue, will fail
    My advice is to leave the front wheels straight and don't grab the steering wheel climbing out or in

    Hello buddy, I'm having the same problem even though I've installed the new ordered module(GM-12823800)back in December 2022. But i must mention that at the workshop they haven't installed it using the MDI and because I don't have and cannot find one, I need help. In the past month I'm getting daily error messages on the dashboard with the (Service Steering Column Lock). Please be so kind as to post the video of how you've programmed it using this MDI thing. Thank you ! :)

    Thank you very much for this fix! I could start my Saab and drive it home. I Also drilled small holes in both ends of the broken part and glued it together. But now a new issue has occured because I have a replacement part installed but my Saab doesn't "accept" it, it is (again) locked in with the new part. I think I have to install/connect it with a software update maybe? Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance!

    • @medialiberation
      @medialiberation Год назад

      In the end of the video you are talking about an MDI to program it in... I guess that's what I need to do, not sure how tho ;)

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  Год назад +1

      If you bought a new lock module, it'll need to be programmed to the car using an MDI, and I will be filming this whenever my part comes. But it'll probably be easier and cheaper for you just to take your car to a GM garage to get them to do it, because otherwise you need to buy an MDI, pay for a subscription to the GM software and learn how to do it

      You could change the broken part with the new part from the new module if they interchange. Then You can use the old module, which of course is already programmed in.
      _OR_ if the electroncic board interchange, use the old one in the new module instead.
      The warranty on the new part will void.

      @@MrVidar0 Thanks for the comment, I did exactly that. I found another old Steering column module on a scrapyard and opened it up. I replaced the broken part and put my original SCLM back in, works perfect ever since (and updated the software of the module).

    Hi Mate first of all wideo is very helpful
    I have same fault at the dashboard and sometimes the car want start i bought another saab to have the impossible to get spare parts mostly body.
    I swap the module and looks like the car can't see the unit.
    Do i need to definitely program the module with the car?
    Also is there difference between remote control and key less entry modules
    Thanks for any response

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  3 месяца назад +1

      The modules are not hot-swappable if they are used, you will need an MDI2 with software to marry them to the car. The only way to avoid this is with a new part OR you can swap the components inside the module

    • @art81klw92
      @art81klw92 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the answer the only thing I think happens because everything looks ok so I think maybe the motor or motor connection with the plate through the pins are failing because I can hear some clicking noise like the motor trying to start while the engine wants to start
      I was also wondering if maybe some electronic failure is possible

    I recognise that parking place, that's Sainbusry's Oxney Road! I was there in my 9-5 NG this evening! Mine is coming up occasionally with Service Steering Lock. The steering wheel is locked though, and does unlock when I press the ignition, so I doubt it's the same problem. I'll look through some of the other posts.

      @@SaabUnleashed I think I'll get a new one on order. You've given great instructions on how to fix it, but, long-term, a new part should last for another 10 years+ hopefully. Thanks for your great videos. Are there any local Saab meets? I'm on my 5th Saab and still own my last two. Both 9-5s. One, a 2005 9-5 which I've owned from new that has done 264,000+ miles and my NG bought from a Saab garage in Telford which was the MD's car, and a demonstrator which has done 211,000 miles. Although I replaced the engine at 194,000 miles, only because I could get a full factory engine, including a new turbo on a pallet at a VERY good price :) So it's now nicely run in :)
