I heard this remarkable recording decades ago, and have listened to it so many times. It never fails to impress. It is true, that Martinelli's voice is not as attractive as Caruso's, but in vocal acting he was at least Caruso's equal and often surpassed him. The change of mood Martinelli creates from the friar seeking reconciliation to the man returning to his past as a warrior builds slowly. And by no means is De Luca the weak half of the duet! Truly, this recording is a masterpiece.
PS. Here is another recorded masterpiece of vocal acting by Martinelli. ruclips.net/video/6jlrSKZi7yw/видео.html&ab_channel=GiovanniMartinelli-Topic Perhaps you have this one too Will?

Alas, no! Will try to find it. I have three versions on disc: Fernando De Lucia, Aureliano Pertile, and Alfred Piccaver.
