No doubt. As an adult, especially a man, having manners can literally be the difference between life or death in some situations. These boys have no idea of what's waiting for them after high school.
Our best education is at home. What your parents teach you can't be forgettable but in school u can't forget math English science etc... yes thank ur parents

I was one of Mr. Riley music students, he really took note of my talents and invited to join the HS band that I was a part of for 3 years, he kind compassionate and understanding. I played volleyball for four years and at times games and specific training sessions would conflict but he was so understanding. He believed in me and even taught me to play the trumpet (my original instrument was snare) so I can join the LA Honor Band for the Rose parade. nah man, problem started at home. some kids just have no fucking respect
@timbrown5576 If the kid was trying to knife him or was big and strong and beating on him he'd have had the right to self defense. But all that was involved here was a basketball and some insults. This does not give the teacher the right to physically attack a minor.
@@vernonfrance2974well, now he'll learn to respect his elders.
@@DaisyMae1975LOVEIn many jurisdictions, a teacher would be fired for hitting a student when the student was not a physical threat and didn't have a weapon.
I was a teacher for many years in inner city schools and I never had to engage in physical confrontations although I would try to move between combatants as that would give them the excuse to back down.
We have a big unemployment problem and I think we should have security in all class rooms to instill discipline. They would be trained to act in ways that would not be physical. They could take the student(s) to separate time out locations and determine a proper course of action whether it be in school suspension up to expulsion and court proceedings.
As a teacher, I was often faced with having to interrupt a lesson in order to handle discipline issues. The security would not just benefit the class' progress but also benefit from having a good job. As a consumer they would help stimulate the economy while being able to resolve their own economic issues. They could be drug tested and offered training and chances to become teachers themselves by having tuition paid for evening or summer classes to develop their skills and areas of expertise.
At the same time, the teacher and class would benefit from not having so much time wasted off topic.
You don't ever need to put up with this at a job. Stand with the teacher. The kid needed a life lesson.
I stand with this teacher. These kids are out of control and he taught an important lesson in life to this kid. The fact they went after this man in the first place shows how backwards society has become.
Teachers are supposed to obey the laws. Breaking the law is NOT teaching anyone the proper way to handle abuse from a 14 year old.

Huge respect for this teacher. I love how he doesn't even regret it lol
The teacher's answer to "Would you have done it differently?" is so refreshing! Honesty! We need more of this honesty. His answer is correct. He hoped it wouldn't have come to that, but it did because of all the actions that led to that. Like really, what do people, teens or otherwise, expect, if you assault someone physically, by throwing a basketball at them, you act aggressive and corner them and then come and do it again and push them in a corner, and don't back off when warned. We're all with the teacher on this one.
He committed an assault on a minor and that is not legal or moral. He should have waited for security and lodged a formal complaint for the racial slur. That would be the CORRECT way to teach the kid a lesson.

@@DaisyMae1975LOVE I retired a number of years ago and I agree that many students seem to have had as their goal trying to prevent the lessons from being too rigorous. This way they can pass without much effort.
Some of the problem comes from putting students in classes where they are not able to function well or where they have not been motivated properly.
I taught Spanish and ESL and in some schools a student could fail the first semester of the year and still be kept with the class for the second semester. This does not work because the failing students get farther and farther behind and then some of them don't care and can try to distract and/or disrupt.
Teaching a class like that is like trying to run a dog sled where some of the dogs are not pulling but just dragging their paws.
In other schools it worked better because a student who failed the first semester would have to repeat it or drop the subject.
When a student is engaged and progressing he/she is seldom a big behavior problem. And when more students are cooperating it is contagious and the trouble makers lose their audience approval.

good job sir thanku for your service
Oh you forgot the part where that boy not only hurled racial slurs at the man, and hit him with a basketball.
It's really sad that administrators don't support teachers. My wife retired at 53 after repeated teacher Assaults at her school. In one instance the day after a student assaulted a teacher he was back in the classroom the following day. The only thing administrators seemed to care about was the money associated with that kid being in school.
That is why staff should always consult with their union representation as well. A good administrator will know and advise staff of their options regarding their union.
@@peterherrera7566 I agree, unfortunately in Texas unions have very little power which is why many so many with full time employment qualify for Government aid
