The original premise isn't even where most monsters come from. Most monsters come from people believing that they are being moral, upright, and decent. The problem with being a monster is that most humans are already pretty close to it. All we really need are targets, since the majority of folk are already predisposed to othering, degrading, and dehumanizing people they don't like. The problem is that being a monster serves a purpose for most people. Being capable of being a monster is what keeps the truly deranged in check, the problem is when our response to certain things does not match what we're getting from another person. A lot of people now adays are all for the lynch mob against 'the other' for things that don't rise to the level of requiring that response, and at the same time have a dulled or no reaction to things that do rise to that response. This will continue until an actual large scale reaction causes a tragedy that can't be justified by the morality after the fact. I would give examples of what I'm talking about, but odds are RUclips wouldn't like it because the notion of 'politically correct' has become so toxic to the point that one can't even talk about objectively real things without the ban bot coming by and nuking the comment.
