Everyone is depending on him like he's the messiah/world savior even though he's just a man. I have no doubts he might have a pretty bad case of PTSD for everything he has gone through as well, probably disconnecting him from his emotions in a way to keep him from falling apart entirely. He could very well have a "if he ever stops to think about everything he might just lose it, better to keep going then"-kind of mentality. I like to psychoanalyze fictional characters, sue me lol

It's kind of ironic that in HL1 they had a fully rendered and articulated player model, but in the graphically and technologically superior HL2 they didn't.
Well HL1 has a multiplayer and freemans model is referenced to create the other ones, as well as the animations in HL2 there's no mp and you not even meant to see freeman in any way except using cheats or mods, so theres no need to waste resources and time for nothing
