In the King James it says the earth swallowed him up with all of his possessions, in the Jewish Torah JPS translation it specifies slaves, and children. God wasn't messing around.

Please pray for me. My testimony is one of faith. No matter what we are facing God will give us strength to over come. Even though every month I struggle to pay rent and I struggle to buy groceries for my children. I keep faith. I’m ashamed and discouraged. These past three years have been hard on me. Since suffering a heart attack two years ago and my on going battle with lupus. As a single mom I’m overwhelmed. My sons are autistic and have problems with social communication and interactions but they are thriving now that I’m homeschooling them. Due to me homeschooling them my hours to work are limited like my finances. I’m constantly in fear of homelessness. But I STILL TRUST IN YOU LORD. Faith over fear!

Astounding story. Attention grabber. Reminds me of why the devil exists. He was never satisfied with his position in heaven. Pride consumed him and was thrown down to earth, where he torments us. If Korah had just been satisfied with the order of our Lord, this story would not be a lesson. Help us Lord!🙏🏽

It amazes me how many never think things are good enough when it involves God. Always wanna be more important. If God wanted me to be a toilet seat and Lord forgive me if I'm wrong for saying this. But I'd be the best toilet seat ever known and wouldn't complain about who got to sit on me. If God thought enough of you to give you a position you should take that as the greatest badge of honor. This is God we're talking about here not a CEO of a corporation. We give more respect and are more greatful for a wink from a police officer or politician than even being thought of by God. The fact that God thought of me is a gift beyond words.

(Sorry for the VERY, VERY long "comment". But I believe it NEEDS to be espoused)
God punishes for EVERY sin mankind commits. From birth to death. And He has two punishes. One is He punishes times 7 fold. But, IF the Sin is "Abominable"; God will 10 X 7 fold!
IE: God punished "King Nebuchadnezzar" in Babylon! Beginning 'circa 605 BC. And it was for 7 yrs; that the King had to live in the ground ,with animals. Because he had tried to kill Daniel's 3 friends in a fire "hotter" 7 times!
However, while this was happening; God was allowing punish of the Jews in the Babylon enslaves; for 70 yrs! From 605 BC until 535 BC! Because they had mostly; committed "Abominable Sins"; for over 1,400 yrs. Believe it or not.
And that has been going until to today. IE: God in 'circa 4,000 yrs ago; He punished the Israelites for 430 yrs in Egypt for Abominable Sins. Then in 70 AD; God punished the Jews in the most horrid way; from the Roman Empire. Because MOST had NOT believed IN Jesus.
Then in 1939 to 1944 AD; God Allowed Adolph Hitler; to murder 6.5 million in Germany; in a "Holocaust of Holocaust's". Because most of the Jews; had denied Jesus since, the last 1943 yrs. Believe or not
Now, God punishes as He deems! Thus, it is "Blasphemy" to doubt anything He does! Because every person since Creation; that does not worship the true God by their death; they will be cast into a "Burning Lake of Fire"! (in Hell). On "Judgment Day"!
Because most of the Israelites/Jews; have ever believed; and worshiped the only True God. And MOST, have never come close to doing that. Sad, but OH so True!
Now, "Yeshua/Jesus" is the name of the only true God; ever since 2,000 yrs ago. Because God changed His name: "YHWH" ("Yahweh"). But he changed it; because of what most of the "Israelites/Jews have done, over 4,000 yrs. And may Jesus have mercy...AMEN!

Why did God judge the sin of Korah so severely, who was Moses and Aaron's first cousin and a Levite ?(Ex 6:18-21; Num 16:1) Because Korah rebelled against Jehovah (God's name, see Isa 12:2; 26:4, KJV), pushing apostasy against Jehovah God, wanting to usurp the priesthood position that was assigned to Aaron and his sons.(Lev 8:1-12; Num 16:5)
He "rose up against Moses" as Jehovah's appointed leader of the nation of fleshly Israel, with his 250 chieftain supporters (along with Dathan, Abiram and On, but which On apparently backed down from siding with Korah), "so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron", condemning them (Num 16:2, 3), "and in the camp they grew jealous of Moses and of Aaron, the holy one of Jehovah", wanting what they were NOT entitled to.(Ps 106:16)
When Korah and the 250 chieftains of Israel spoke against Moses and Aaron, Moses told them: "In the morning Jehovah will make known who belongs to him and who is holy and who should approach him (as high priest), and whomever he may choose will approach him."
"Do this: Take fire holders, Korʹah and all your supporters, and put fire in them and place incense on them before Jehovah tomorrow, and the man whom Jehovah will choose, he is the holy one (or high priest). You sons of Leʹvi have gone far enough !”(Num 16:5-7)
Moses further told Korah: "Listen, please, you sons of Leʹvi. Does it seem to you such a little thing that the God of Israel has separated you (or the tribe of Levi) from the assembly of Israel (Num 3:12) and allowed you to approach him in order to perform the service of Jehovah’s tabernacle and to stand before the assembly to minister to them (or minister to Aaron and his sons as priests of Jehovah, Num 3:6, carrying "the utensils of the ministry", Num 4:12),"
"and that he brought you near to him along with all your brothers, the sons of Leʹvi ? Must you also try to secure the priesthood ? For this reason, you and all your supporters who are gathering together are AGAINST Jehovah. As for Aaron, who is he that you should murmur against him ?"(Num 16:8-11)
For this rebellious act, for ' treating Jehovah disrepectfully ' (Num 16:30), Jehovah decreed that Korah, his 250 supporters, Dathan and Abiram and their families who fully supported this defiance of Jehovah's authority through Moses, were to be put to death, first by Jehovah causing the earth to open up, like an earthquake.
Everyone that was in the "tents of Korʹah, Daʹthan, and A·biʹram, from every side, and Daʹthan and A·biʹram came out, taking their stand (against Moses and Aaron) at the entrance of their tents, together with their wives, their sons, and their little children".
These were "swallowed......up, along with their households and everyone who belonged to Korʹah and all their goods. So they and all who belonged to them (including "their little children") went down alive into the Grave, and the earth covered them over, so that they perished from the midst of the congregation."(Num 16:27, 32, 33)
Then "a fire came out from Jehovah and consumed the 250 men offering the incense."(Num 16:35) This all came about due to rebelling aginst Jehovah, treating him disrepectfully. This is just one example of what happens to anyone who disregards Jehovah, treating him with disrepect or with contempt (1 Sam 2:30), as did the high priest Eli's two sons, Hophni and Phinehas (1 Sam 2:12) and deservedly died in a battle with the Philistines.(1 Sam 4:17)

Most have been more to that story I don't think those 250 people knew they were going to die I thought it was a test like Moses spices would do something and the others wouldn't to show Moses was telling the truth

Close . . . but no cigar. This is a story about worship. Korah and his followers were Levites, and they took care of the furnishings and instruments OUTSIDE the Holy Place. These were all made of Bronze. Also, their incense was not accurately composed (strange fire). Moses served God in the Holy Place where everything (i.e. furnishings and instruments) were made of gold, and the incense was composed of the "recipe" God Himself created. Korah and his followers attempted to approach God based on judgment (bronze) and human effort (strange fire) whereas Moses approached God on His terms; that is, he came before God in the righteousness given by God (gold) and the incense God received as an acceptable sacrifice. In short, Korah and his followers attempted to "worship" God based on human terms; Moses approached God on God's terms.
Interestingly, "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked (Psalm 84) is recorded as "A Psalm of the sons of Korah."

4:55 Their story doesn't apply to us non Jews, in fact it doesn't even apply to Jews today. They had a very special role back then as stewards of God's Word and were to be a Holy people so they could communicate the God of the Universe to the rest of the world.

Wrong. Paul explicitly stated in 1 Cor. 10:11 that these things were recorded to be examples for Christians to learn from. So yes, the lesson applies to Christians today. It certainly applies to the Jews today, because they were held responsible for being keepers of the scriptures. Being God's chosen ppl comes with a responsibility that wasn't given to anybody else.
