I was a 7 y/o boy when this video came out and lived in the country 8 miles west of Lodi California in a small city called Terminus by the white slough. Today in 2024 I"m 67 and its one of my favorite groups from the 1960's and hope young generations make music like this.
This song came out in 65 when I was 8 years old! Love it , did then, still do! Taught my grand daughters the song, they love! I'm 64 still dance to it, know the words still! Thank you Gary Lewis and the Playboy's! Another generation loves you! Me too!
You and I were (are) the same age when this song came out. Something about this band and those songs that fill me with such bittersweet memories. Probably comes from the realization both my parents are gone now, while they were still young and around back then. When I listen to these songs now I feel them still with me.
I was a teenager when I heard this song. Gary looks so much like his father. RIP Jerry Lewis. You are missed very much. Such a great actor and comedian. I just loved his movies. Gary Lewis is a great singer. Growing up I just loved to listen to his songs.
One of the greatest song ever written by Leon Russell. And the preformance by Gary and the band is so great. The modulation in this song makes this song 2 songs, that is how great this song is.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 Almost near the end of the instrumental bridge. Then I think at the end of the song, the coda, it modulates again?...or maybe you don't call this a modulation..kind of like the "Na, na, na, na, nana, na, na...ending in "Hey Jude"
The great Carl Radle on bass. He later anchored Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, then he played with the mad dogs and Englishmen tour with Joe cocker, then the Leon Russell touring band, The shelter people, and after that, Derek and the dominos! RIP Carl, One of the best Rock bass players ever.
I really love your songs Gary Lewis since 1965 until now 2021 your songs entertained. Me so much hopefully you can visit Philippines someday good luck good health and God bless you
A lot of the greatest generation celebrity kids had talent. Nancy and Frank Sinatra Jr. Dean Martin's kid Dino, Desi Arnez Jr, Lloyd Bridges sons and Michael Douglas.
Gary Lewis, and the playboys this is the son of comedian Jerry Lewis, and the song was written for his father Jerry, but the son decided that it was best that it was be played on the radio, and now one of the biggest hits that is played from this band
His mom was from Saint Charles, Michigan, a one horse coal mine in Saginaw County. I used to listen to him singing " This Diamond Ring" on the juke box on post st Warner Barracks in Bamberg, Germany when I was an army brat in the 7th grade. I ate lunch with the G Is there because our school didn't have a cafeteria. Nine years later, I partied with him at "The SCENE" in Saginaw whete he wss performing. He sat right next to me at our table and we talked and partied for quite awhile and I got gus autograph. Thst place is a strip club now. Thank God for those memories because thete isn't much left worth fighting for (by design) How ironic..I'd love to change the world but I don't know what to do. So I leave it up to you. Keep on ROCKIN, America in NAME ONLY, in what used to be the free world.for what it'$ WORTH! I'd say " Gimmee s ticket for an airplane but there'$ no place else to go.
Saw you posting in the live chat of that Nick Robinson video about that kid roasting him and recognized the xfce logo I just thought that was interesting
I wonder what Jerry thought of Gary, musically, that is. Jerry was not a rock 'n' roll fan. He leaned very heavily toward big band jazz. I'm sure he was proud of his son's success in the entertainment biz. It's not easy to step out of the considerable shadow of a film and comedic legend and shine. Gary did.
Very beautiful song but isn't it something I wouldn't be able to accept the fact that they consider him the best singer of 65 when he knows in his heart it's All electronics not his voice
Ok, so first off I like this music. Even saw the playboys one time. But reality is I just watched 3 videos of this band, all 3 were lip sinked to the original recording. The songs were written by other people and the original recordings were performed by the wrecking crew. So what you have left is some good looking kids smiling and maybe singing. Dad brought the best he could for his son.
Wow ...... A Cordovox Accordian .....How embarrassing...🥴 You mean Jerry couldnt loan the guy a few bucks for a Farfisa or Panther, or Vox ... Yeeeesh ....!!!😂
poor Gary, now lives near Rochester, New York ... His father was jealous of him for stealing the limelight from him . at that time Gary was far more popular than his father.....
He is such a wonderful singer, wonderful man

This is when music was fun
Music just made you happy back then. We need more of that today.

I was 11. Grew up dancing 💃. These were fun memories🎉🎉
I was 10. Ditto for me too.
Gary Lewis is the best performer He is wonderful I love His songs and the way He performed God bless you Gary Lewis
When music had a melody, harmony and poetry! None of that exists with today's music - if you can call it that! I have a kid in college. I know!
They had so much fun in this video! the band, the dancers omg, everyone the audience. So beautiful outstanding song. Makes you feel good inside.
The featured dancers in the back. Can you say Dua Lipa?
I Love Gary LEWIS nad The PlayBOYS
me too,they are awesome
Couldnt agree more! One of the best and most underrated!
I Was Doing My First Tour In Vietnam In 1965 2 Years Later Gary Lewis Got His Draft Notice To Go to Nam What Memories
Gary Lewis was deployed to a non combat situation in Korea.
@@1953childstar No, he was actually deployed to Viet Nam.
@@1953childstarHe spent two months in Vietnam.
That Winter 56 years ago, I was listening to this on my transistor radio. I've since seen Gary twice, have always loved him.
Love this song!! The music today is absolute garbage!!
Well said
You've got that right!
This is good song 🎵

Gary Lewis he is a really good singer ❤
I saw these guys in the 80’s at a community college near me. I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed the concert.
One of the greatest song ever written by Leon Russell. And the preformance by Gary and the band is so great. The modulation in this song makes this song 2 songs, that is how great this song is.
Touches heart 👌
No Way.. Leon Russell?! Who knew.. I love his song Lady Blue.I adore Gary Lewis..
When does the modulation occur?
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 Almost near the end of the instrumental bridge. Then I think at the end of the song, the coda, it modulates again?...or maybe you don't call this a modulation..kind of like the "Na, na, na, na, nana, na, na...ending in "Hey Jude"
ok, I know Leon and Snuff Garnet did most of their arrangements, but I thought maybe Glen Hardin wrote this number.
We grew up in the best times!
Love this song. I was still in high school when I first heard this on the radio.
beautiful ladies dancing a beautiful song in a beautiful way.
The dancing girls behind the scene. Beautiful.
Those dancers in the back !! 😍
Born in 65 As a newborn baby boy today in 2022 I love that music ❤️❤️💙🎶🎵🎵 Forever

Gary Lewis he is a really good person
Grew up with his music on the transistor radio..makes one want to go back in time
Nice I like .I wish these days would return

Talented, like his father.

i love gary lewis and the playboys excellent music groovy 🤠🥸 🥰😍🤩♥🎸🎻🪕🥁
Love the Playboys . Still at it ?
. Good clean music . Ed Sullivan loved Gary Lewis and the Playboys
Great song and the phenomenal musician Carl Radle on bass.
The song is so catchy.

Dreaming of a love and not knowing where start....
Gary Lewis is my favorite singer He is the best performer God bless you all
Love this! ❤️
Thank you, KRLA for introducing me to such great tunes!

I don't love a clown I love to the playboys
Gal in background kicking up her heels....HOPE SHE SEES THIS AND keeps dancin'
Saw you posting in the live chat of that Nick Robinson video about that kid roasting him and recognized the xfce logo I just thought that was interesting
Yeah it's me lol. I comment on Nick's streams sometimes. Thanks for the comment
Everybody loves a clown but I love more to the playboys
on drums are jim keltner ?

Your doll is trying to kill me! Yes, I’ll hold…🎶🎶🎶🎶 everybody loves a clown…..
Looks like Carl Radle's bass pickup covers were coated with something to dull the chrome.
🥁🎸V.Niec
where are they now?they were great.
That wasn't his real voice. Love the way the mixer made his voice sound. Love his songs.

Anyone have an idea who the girl dancing on stage. Omg
Enjoyable song, but there should be some truth in advertising. This is not "live," but a lip-synched performance to the studio recording.
The accordian player no doubt got all the babes.
Who was the accordion player?
I was 22
That's not Jim Karstein on drums. Who is it?
Looks a lot like his father
hmm... the dancers are doing The Freddie ? or maybe a modified version....
Not live actually. They are not plugged in and Gary's voice tracks are doubled with another singer. Still love it though!
The guitars are plugged in and you can see the chords. But they are NOT actually singing and playing live
LIVE MY ASS!
The cameraman is very careful to avoid "tight shots" that would reveal the lip-synching...
Carl Radle on bass guitar .
Where are the mics?
It was all pre-recorded… The instrumentals were done by "The Wrecking Crew" and Gary Lewis "singing" was dubbed in by singer Ron Hicklin.
Wasn't this song used in the movie Toy Story?
Three guitars, and you can’t hear a one of them.
TIM from Canada too much background screaming cannot hear this song
Hollywood A Go-Go. Lipsynced at Gazarri's if memory serves.
THIS IS NOT LIVE !!!
The instrumentals were pre-recorded by "The Wrecking Crew" and the singing was dubbed in by Ron Hicklin.
I believe this is LA DJ Gene Weed hosting the LA Based show SHIVAREE
Not live.
I think the bass player was in the wonders
At least the lip synching was live. *Sigh*
Было настоящее веселье и не было извращений и была нормальная музыка, хорошая ...
I thought Gary Lewis was a drummer.
Gary played several instruments.
@@Rieslingontheriver Didnt know that. Thanks!!
If I recall correctly, he started out as the drummer but picked up guitar shortly after moving to the lead singer position.
Very beautiful song but isn't it something I wouldn't be able to accept the fact that they consider him the best singer of 65 when he knows in his heart it's All electronics not his voice
To bad the accordion player doesn't realize you have to open the bellows to get any sound from it LMFAO
Clowns are scary.
Never got any help of any kind from his father.

☺️👌
Jerry Lewis left his 50 million dollar fortune to his second wife and her daughter. Not a penny to his 5 sons of first wife. What a guy!
poor Gary, now lives near Rochester, New York ... His father was jealous of him for stealing the limelight from him . at that time Gary was far more popular than his father.....
Yeah i was such a fan of Jerry Lewis. I would see him out to breakfast in LV. He said that before he died.
Wrong though about Gary being more popular than his dad. Jerry Lewis movies were very big movies in the 60’s.
@@chazhernandez6933 maybe in France,,,,lol
Why is it necessary to bring this up?
The wrecking crew
👎 Live performance ❔ I don't think so ...
Outstanding new singer!! What a joke...He and Freddy Cannon were the two worst singers in pop music history.
Snuff Garrett said he replaced Gary's voice on recordings 😳
He really can’t sing and won an award lol.
In the 1960's his voice was overdubbed by Ron Hicklin and the instrumentals were done by "The Wrecking Crew"...
A great group of singers.
Where are the microphones?
Looks a lot like his father
