When i tried to create a large base on the pole i used a plane to go their
In one launch. i can try and make a plane who is capable of lifting off but its just i had no time amd energy left so i just strapped 2 large solid rocket boosters and when i gained altitude i ejected them.
Didnt make it tho.

@RUclips Security Squad The Herc has been around for a long time, and will be with us for a long time to come. When the last F22 and F35 are flown to the Bone yard a C 130 will take the pilots back to their home station.

exactly. the V-22 was created with the failure of Operation Eagle Claw in mind.
When my dad got transferred to Turkey from 1980-82, as enlisted USAF, our family had to fly from Germany to Turkey, then back; on a C-130. On the way back, I was old enough, and still remember, getting to go up to the cockpit mid-flight. That is one of the greatest memories of my life.

The British tried this in ww2 for heavily loaded bombers, it worked on a truck, so they tried it on a short Stirling 4 engined heavy bomber. However they were too powerful and it cartwheeled off the runway causing the gear to collapse.
I accidentally met a guy from operation desert claw while waiting at a pharmacy in San Diego in 02. He started talking to me and I didn't want to be rude. By the end, it was about an hour waiting. He was a navy corpsman and it was fascinating. I was too young to know anything about it and hearing his story made me look it up. Omg what a s show! If Murphy could personally apply his law, he did it there. That's some history that needs to be remembered
Had the V-22 Osprey been introduced in 1980, Operation Eagle Claw would have gotten a better chance of success.
My uncle was in the airforce during Vietnam. He told me about a pilot that dropped his c-130, at a steep angle, onto an over ran airfield to rescue a few men. He picked em up under fire, dodged an RPG during take off, and from what I understand got out without taking a hit.

The concept still exists. The AC-130 called "Fat Albert" for the US Navy Blue Angels has rockets. They need them for assisted takeoff due to the weight of the aircraft when fully loaded with the squadron's cargo. It's not always needed, but they do use em when necessary. Plus the takeoff is awesome to see at an air show.

I saw something similar on MiG-21, it's called SPRD-99 / RATO system and it was used for take off on a short runway. You still need to land normally at about 300 km/h (or about 190 m/h), but it served well.
There have been tons of JATO/RATO aircraft going back to 1946s.

@@Cpt_Boony_Hat You are right, they Blue Angels aerobatic team flew the plane from 2002 up to 2019 when it retired.
They aerobatics team itself flew over 30.000 hours with the plane, they used the JATO launch assist up to 2009 when unfortunately the stock ran out.

That was taken into account. The rocket exhaust area was coated in ablative heat resistant coatings. CS II may still have it on the fuselage, it looks like a very runny paint job.
Rocket propulsion is just a continuous, controlled explosion
Credible sport 2 ended up in Schenectady NY and is currently being rebuilt at an air museum. They have most of it back together, at least the major outside structures.

I was thinking the same thing. Carter’s administration negotiated their release, thru the Algiers Accords, which was signed the day before Reagan took office.

I'm surprised it needed a tail hook. IIRC the C130 was actually tested aboard an aircraft carrier and was able to stop itself within the length of the flight deck, unless it was a matter of weight.

What most people dont know is that another program was going on as a backup for this attempt. A bunch of OH 6 aircraft were being modified by the Army National Guard depots to strengthen the OH 6 to carry one ranger and a pilot. A hook was mounted on the belly for the ranger to hang from after putting as many of the hostages in as possible and then taking off. I have seen info about this operation before , but nothing about the other project. Might come to light one day.

Some dark but legit funny humor to the failed Eagle Claw operation was one of the Delta operators actually was sound asleep on that C-130 that got crashed into, waking up to the plane on fire. He didn't even hesitate to just jump out the nearest door, not bothering for a parachute to to check what he was jumping into (thankfully it hadn't left the ground so he suffered minor injuries). When another operator asked him what he planned to do after jumping like he did, he replied "One problem at a time, Eric, one problem at a time." Only good to come of the failed attempt was the creation of special fireproof suits for the operators and the creation of the 160th SOAR Wing for special forces to work with as the Navy choppers where the main problem.
