- The Lego series by Traveller's Tales have proven to be some of the best licensed games around, and if Lego Marvel SuperHeroes is any indication, that's not stopping anytime soon. Max Scoville discusses this newest addition to the virtual LEGO family with producer Phill Ring, including open-world elements, new game mechanics, different platforms, and the hundred-character roster.
LEGO Marvel SuperHeroes is slated for a 2013 release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PS Vita, Wii U, DS, 3DS, and PC.

It's a game for kids, and a lot of parents don't know how to use parental controls on consoles, so it's just a matter of keeping little kids from accidentally wandering into the deep end of internet grossness. Skylanders is the exact same way. -Max

Well, yeah. Doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it, but LEGO is a company that makes toys for children, and this is a game designed with children in mind. That's how it is, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. -Max

I really wish they'd start including online for these games, they keep saying they think couch co op is the best but people have been asking for online since the first game, it has to be a tech issue more than the lack of a desire to do it.

Absolutely! Look at Halo, one of the very few current gen games that holds true to a cooperative experience. There's online multiplayer and campaign co-op. There's offline multiplayer and campaign co-op. There's also system link for those that want to play that way. I understand Halo has a bigger budget but they get that people like options when it comes to playing with others. I find it hard to believe that the only reason TT left online co-op out is because they prefer couch play...
In the video, it shows a little targeting system for your webs going right to the building. It looks to me like you can only swing on buildings. Awesome!
Yup. I learned in one other interview, the guy said they are focusing more on more playable characters then alternate suits. There will be a couple, he stated, but we're mostly working on characters. That is true. I would want to play as, say Sentry then to play as Hulk's Mr. Fix-it costume. I'm so flippin' impatient for this game man!
Look at how angry your comment is, over a game about LEGO superheroes. This is exactly the reason these games don't have online co-op: because the internet is full of angry people calling each other idiots. TT Games wants to encourage kids to play together, or with parents, because social interaction is developmentally beneficial. The risks of little kids playing games online are considerably greater than any benefits.
And it's a Lego Marvel video game. I don't think relevance is an issue. -Max
I'm really excited to see how they deal with the more serious characters. Seeing these total gritty badasses turned into cute little minifigs is like seeing cats get wet, it just completely takes them down a notch in the most hilarious and adorable way. -Max

I'm a DC guy and my favorite hero is Batman. I love Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. But this game is definitely going to top Lego Batman 2 with it's free roam and diverse characters!
mohawk storm in leather was awesome. so lame when they decided everyone in x-men needs to wear the same uniform
how about the co-op camera and performance? Lego Batman 2 co-op performed poorly (froze) on the 360 and the camera was awkward.
How about local system link co-op? (rarely offered by titles any more)
If they're basing the characters on the actual toy sets, then Venom will be a regular size figure. Which makes sense. Venom may be a big guy, but he isn't superhumanly big.
His response to Max's question about the Vita version, he keeps saying "the handheld version." Seems to indicate that Vita will probably still be getting the same, scaled-down game as the 3DS.
With Iron Man and Spider-Man can you fully explore the world, and fly up to the top of towers? The gameplay looks like it limits the height of how high you can fly as Iron Man. Would be cool if you could fly around, anywhere, as high as the buildings.
Is it just me or this guy is an awesome interviewer? He has the best questions on the spot.

I wonder what the fantastic 4 going to be able to do. In the Game Informer videos I saw a circular platform like the alternate suit spots in LEGO Batman just these were blue and had a 4 on it. I'm curious what they do.
Looks fantastic I haven't considered lego games "kiddie" since the Star wars Complete Trilogy. I love comics and comic lore this will be a day one for me!

Right, you should be able to play as Tony Stark and then call the mark 42 and unlock suits as you progress. Imagine jumping off a high building and in mid air the 42 flies to your rescues

Just to let you know, apparently some new info on GTA V will be revealed on cvg's GTAfiveOclock show next Wednesday. I said the newswire, but it will actually be on their gta show.

Bit disappointed about no online play, many a time in LEGO LotR I wanted to jump in with my buddy in the States.
Still, I'll be sure to pick this up some time. Online or none. Love me some LEGO, love me some Marvel.
Rockstar Games is hands down my favorite developer of all time. Nobody can even come close to the amount of quality they put into their games. GTA V=GOTY!
I hope Lego Marvel Superheroes does well, that game might be the only game close enough to getting me off of GTA V. Gears Of War is always an option as well.
I really, really , REALLY hope that they do in fact put ghostrider in with the bike. And if it was at all possible, its ability to scale walls and drive on water. (I would also ask for his ability to transform any vehicle he enters into a hellfire demon ride, but that would be asking a little to much.)
I think it will release sometime in may or possibly June. I can't say when but I know it won't be long since the game is coming out in 5 months. Lego Marvel Superheroes probably comes out in October. What I really want to see is how multiplayer works in GTA V. I hope it takes things from red dead redemption and has a free roam with rank, co-op missions, challenges, hunting wildlife, some kind of horde with either police or zombies, and playable mini games with friends.
Yes, it's a game for kids... but it's not a game for kids only. Many adults, such as myself, love these games too and we think it would be better if online co-op were included. When creative people put their minds to a challenge, they come up with solutions. I am sure if they really tried, they could find a way to create a filter that would please parents whose children play the game, and also the adults who play it as well.

Is EVERY character from Marvel gonna be there?
Will every character have a special ability?
Are the beginning of the character's origin be in the game?

The possibilities truly are endless! I really hope they take full advantage of how big the map is and all the activities in the game and make Free Roam similar to RDR. That game's multiplayer was perfect, I hope GTA V's multiplayer is even better! And I'm sure that Rockstar will only give us like half the information in the game. The rest shall be discovered come September 17...
I wonder if they are going to make oscorp tower from the new amazing spider man because stark tower is the same building as the oscrp tower I wonder what there going to do with that
I am so impatient for this!! I love Marvel!! I've loved Spider-Man since I was little! I am 11 now! I can't wait to find out how swinging around as Peter will be like in LEGO version! Hope they have a super giant roster with lots of alternate suits! P.S. put Carnage in the game! I also hope LEGO updates the gameplay from LEGO Batman 2 like better free roaming. I also can't wait to play as Deadpool, my 2nd fave character of Marvel! Use Nolan North for the voice!

Nothing will ever come close to the amount of hype GTA V has. The only other game I will get really excited for is another Red Dead. This 5 month wait is going to be the longest 5 months of our entire lives! Even when I play other GTAs, I can only think about GTA V. I'm also a Splinter Cell fan who is really looking forward to Blacklist, but it just seems so lackluster when I think about what is coming out a month after it!
It just can't come fast enough can it? , GTA V has consumed the past 2 years of my life, I think about it every single day. September 17 2013 will be the biggest sigh of relief I ever have. Back on topic, this game looks absolutely incredible. It has the potential to be the next Marvel Ultimate Alliance (not the second one!). It also has the potential to be the greatest LEGO game of all time.
Because those things are obviously mutually exclusive.....
Yeah they would be dumb not to take advantage of the amazing map they made. I have all of the faith of the world in Rockstar Games. Also, a channel called cvg which does gtafiveoclock show said that we should all stay tuned to the rockstar newswire for the next couple of weeks because it will be worth it. Wouldn't there be a way to simply just have it locked by default where you'd need to at least be somewhat knowledgeable to get online co-op working? Of course they are games for kids but they have a charm that appeals to everyone. Hopefully we can use Hamachi or a mod to trcik the PC version to do online co-op.

I would also like to see Ant Man be able to turn into a BIG FIG, Abomination able to turn back into Blonski, Black Panther, Black Cat, Wolverine (Tank-top), Red Skull, HAVOC from X-Men First Class, Bruce Banner (Shirtless) and Destroyer & Galactus playable in the game.
Does anyone know if we will be able travel to Asgard in the hub, or is it just a level? It would be cool if in the hub world take Thor and fly to the sky and end up in space then Asgard. Use The Iron Man Mark 39 to get there would be awesome too. Or have Thor open a portal that goes to Asgard.
No online? :( come on! I dont always have the time to go to a friends house, i usually game late at night and use voice chat. You know what online would bring to your game, less camera problems that you need to figure out.

This is the best looking LEGO game so far, in my opinion, and I know that might not be saying much. And its Marvel which is bonus points for me.

I spent 20+ hours in every Lego game. I think I got them all...and still I'm not finished. Crysis 3 took me 15 hours to beat. I'm sure, I will never touch it again.
So much for the (re)play value. And I'm not talking prices here.

A parent who is always away on business has a child who loves legos and video games and just wants to be able to play online with his child and you'd deny them?
I really think they should add the X-Men trilogy skins or the Amazing Spiderman skin because I think it's unfair that only the Avengers get their movie skins rather than their original skins.
Don't forgot about the deadpool game coming out! Hopefully it doesn't suck like duke nukem forever. Both games look awesome with the trailers but they end up sucking in the end. Deadpool looks much better though.

Does anyone know if we will be able to go to Asgard and Astroid M in free roam? Or will it just be one level in those locations and we are just banned from going there ever again?

Because GTA V is going to be awesome! But yeah this game will be just as good in it's own way. It will hopefully go down as one of the best marvel games ever created.
You could fly anywhere in Lego Batman 2's HUB, so I don't see why you couldn't do that in the game that is supposedly improving on everything from Lego Batman 2.
I hope they put the Blackbird as a vehicle and put Steve Blum as the voice for Wolverine.

The only thing that could make me happier about a Marvel game is an injustice style game. I really want to drop the hammer down in HD with Thor.

It's so dumb that they don't include online play. I know it's more fun playing with someone in the same room, but some people don't have that option.

Lego City Undercover is by far the best Lego game ever as it is not tied to any franchise and allows for hilarious dialogue.
Growing up is for kids! This looks epic. The only thing i don't like is no online play. Why no online play?
Watching this in 2017, right before the sequel comes out and realizing how small this game is in comparison. Sure you have the X-Men and F4 characters here but that's the only thing that can be considered an advantage (is it really an advantage though?) The Marvel NYC here is very movie-inspired tone while the sequel is more comic-inspired.
I'd say it's an advantage. It helps to encourage players to collect characters, especially given how iconic most of them are. That was a major drawback on Lego Avengers, and ultimately made the character collecting a chore. Even getting smaller known ones like Silver Samurai was cool, but getting Butterball was forgettable. As for the NYC being movie-inspired, I'd say it's a mix of movies and comics. Stark Tower is in the style of Avengers, but the Baxter Building, X-Mansion and the Sanctum Santorum are clearly comic inspired. Same goes for character designs. In LMSH2, a lot of character designs are taken straight from the movies, but there's still originality and comic inspirations.

I feel exactly the same except for dead island riptide because that looks really cool but GTA V it just won't get out of my head every minute that game just pops in my head. I have never been so hyped for a game in my life EVER!!!!
