    Great job! A trick my dad showed me is to not cut all the way through when you get to the tail. Then flip the section you cut over with it still attached to the tail. You can remove the filet from the skin easier because it is still attached to the fish fail. No fork or anything needed to hold it since it is still attached to the base of the fish. Hope that makes since and helps. He is the only one I have seen do it.

      That’s a very good tip. That’s the way I do it. So much easier. It acts like a holder and less chance to cut your fingers

      It’s much faster in my opinion… I love using it! Hopefully it helps you become more confident, and remember you don’t have to go fast, start slow and keep the blade level.

    I’ve been doing the same thing with my Bubba knife. Their (Bubba) blades are horrible. I use the Piranha Blades with the Bubba Knife. They also fit perfectly. Not sure why Bubba doesn’t realize this and fix the issue. The lithium knife handle is awesome.
    Couple of tips….if you cut the gill connector and bleed those fish before you put them on ice the blood all pumps out of them and the filets are pearly white with no blood or no salt water needed. Also don’t cut the flap all the way off and continue your skinning while it’s still attached on the tail section.
    Great video….glad to see others have struggled with the Bubba Blades and it’s not just me!

      First off, thank you for the comment and watching the video. I appreciate it! I agree about your assessment of the knife itself, which is why I made this video.
      I should get into habit of cutting gill connector as you say but I catch and release fish a lot, if you have seen any of my other videos and sometimes I keep some and end up releasing later so I just don’t want to kill the fish if I’m unsure if I’m going to keep them. I can see how it would help and maybe I’ll try it in the future when I know for sure I’m going to keep them.
      Also, good tip on the filleting part, some others have also suggested that. Might have to try that too. Thank you for your feedback 👍🏼👍🏼

    Mr Twister has Mede the best knife I’ve ever used. I’ve tried everything but the Bubba. The blades are fine and the flex really well.

      I also cut all the way to the tail and stop before you cut through the skin. Flip it over with the piece you just cut folded back into place, so the fish isn’t collapsing from the void. When you get both sides cut, fold them out and then you can cut them off the skin and you have something to hold onto, since it’s still connected at the tail. Then I cut the ribs out last. Probably clear as mud, but it’s worked well for me for 40yrs

    There is no blood if you bleed them out before cleaning. You can do it on the stringer. Cut the gills bleed into the body of water your fishing and throw on ice.

    Great video. However, I have found that if you can clean them and cook them within hours of catching them( and not having them sit in water in the refrigerator overnight or even longer) you will find that they will have the very best taste. And freezing them works. But they still don't taste the same as right from the water onto the plate. I have found that if you do this with northern pike it will be difficult to tell the difference between the pike and a walleye.

    WHAT KIND OF CUTTING BOARD WAS THAT GOOD IDEAL ALSO I HAVE THE BUBBA KNIVES ELECTRIC AND MANUAL

      The cutting board is made by Rapala, it has hole in it so you could fillet on a 5 gallon bucket and put waste into the bucket, through the whole. I got it from Fleet Farm a few years ago.

      Cuz they are really rough and coarse. I don’t like them as much, especially for panfish.

    Will the mister Twister blades fit the Rapala Heavy duty knife,corded? How do you compare the Twister blades to th Rapala ones?

      To add a little more insight, I resorted back to the twister blade because I KEPT cutting too deep in to fish when I was using bubba blades.

      The blade is 7 inch standard blade that comes with Mr. Twister electric knife, but you can buy those replacement blades at Fleet Farm or online separately too, pretty sure there’s other places that sell them as well. I actually bought 2 packs the last time because I love them so much haha.

    You said you don’t want to give up head meat but yet you did, I have cleaned lots of fish in my 60 years of fishing and cleaning and I know where all the meat is on these small fish and you did leave about one bite per fish and with as little meat on small fish you need to keep all you can. If you know how to clean fish it will all come off with a knife. Each to there own I guess. I was kinda surprised you were not wearing gloves like I see all the other young fishermen are doing trying to teach everyone just to make a RUclips.

    Neck meat is tastiest meat on Crappie and bass. Fillet guys are throwing out the best tasting meat.

    Why soak in the salt water. I scale and cook them within 4 or 5 hours of catching.

      I do it, because it’s supposed to remove blood from the fillets and I’ve always heard that the whiter the filets the better they taste and I’ve always had luck with doing that and great tasting fillets. Just my way of doing things I guess.

      @@davidcurtis5398 no problem, also seems to get rid of the slime better. I do have some fresh every now and then but I also vacuum pack and freeze some, so that’s my reasoning.

      @@JMonOutdoors OK, I have found, for me, ( I don't have a vacuum packer ) that the best way to store and keep fish is to freeze them in a block of ice. I had some crappie for about 6 years in a block of ice, took them out, and they were as fresh as when they were caught.

      @@JMonOutdoors try it and you'll like it. I've fried backbones for many in my 59 years and never had any not say, "Wow! We've been missing the best part!". The bones flavor the meat. I'm careful to leave a little extra on the backbones when cleaning them. And those fins and tails! Better than candy.
