I was at UCF 90-93 & had no idea there was a show filmed on Church Street. However, I did have a lot of nights out on the town with my college friends & lots of dates at Church Street. There were tons of clubs, restaurants, shops, & entertainment. It was trying to be a cleaner, more wholesome version of Ybor City in Tampa or Bourbon Street in NO.
Back in 1999, Church St. was pretty nice. I fell in love with it, and within a few years it started going downhill. It’s so sad, because it’s such a nice place, it should busy with restaurants, lights, & people. The news recently spoke that they have plans to revive it. Hopefully they don’t tear anything down. Put back a model steam train where it can be appreciated again. Miss those days. 😢 Thanks for going back to this spot. 🎉
I lived in Orlando from 1983-1988. ( I also lived in the Angebuilt hotel during the fire) 😮 Church Street was a huge tourist attraction and local hang out especially on weekends, it also was a hub for light up Orlando which was a big street party once a year. It's strange that nothing is mentioned about phynius phogs Balloon works and was part owned by Bob kittinger the famous hot air ballonist. Church Street station was a happening place back then, you could see a big party 🎉 going on when you went down I-4 at night
I was born and grew up in Orlando, my good friend worked for Church St. Station and was vehicle maintenance. One night after work at about 2am we took the old Firetruck for a ride around town. I really miss old Orlando. Swamp Ghost was another awesome place.
I was in HighSchool in the early 80s, and I remember going to church street station with friends for a night on the town. I really had some good times at the different places on and around church street station!!!!
In August of 2023 The Saloon opened for a limited engagement of The Carnival. It was under the creative city project. I have several pix from that event.
20 to 25 years ago I was a regular in downtown Orlando It was a fun place to be for people in their early to mid 20s Unfortunately events, such as those that took place on Halloween night is a big reason people don’t like to go downtown anymore. I work with a few college kids. They don’t go downtown anymore. I remember church Street in the late 80s early 90s and all it was a place to be . Took my wife to dinner downtown Orlando about two years ago and I was shocked at how dirty and rundown ,almost a ghost town . Orlando has had the same mayor for a quarter of a century might be time for a change Keep up the great work, Micah
Dude! I was wondering if you’d ever vlog this! I just stopped by here a few weeks ago and lined up some shots, same homeless dude was there even, ha! So cool how all that woodwork and the stage inside is all still intact, as well as the signage and stained glass window upstairs. Mind blowing to think “The Killer” himself amongst many other legends, walked in off the street right past that window and up those stage stairs. Would be so cool to get in there and take some pics on that legendary stage!
Nice..... I bet that area was awesome back in its heyday.... just watched Jerry Lee Lewis performance at the saloon..... it was great..... he did all his greatest hits..... even took off his jacket ... ha ha .... it doesn't seem like that big of a stage, but some big names have performed on it....thanks for sharing.... take care..... have a great day.....thanks.....👍👍👍👍👍
Are you going to the May Pang Photo exhibit of John Lennon next Monday or Tuesday in Ormond Beach at the Ocean Art Gallery ? Shes gonna be there as well to meet ?
I went to Church street many times in the early 80s, i remember The Cheyanne Saloon, but i always elected to go to Rosy O'Gradys. It was a much better bar!
If you go downtown at night it’s SLAMMED!! I love your videos Mika. But this makes its sound downtown is run down or empty when that is not remotely accurate. Kinda one street ish. But even at night that street is semi busy while several around are SUPER busy. There’s also restaurants during the day and spots during the day. So Downtown and very much alive and well. Outside Church Street Station.
Church Street Station died out because Disney was jealous there was money they were missing out on. Therefore Pleasure Island was opened; and Disney took out another Orlando icon. I moved to Orlando in 1974. The kids in the apartment complex would lie out in the grass looking up to watch the skywriter do the add for Rosey O’Grady's, and the banjo, and other things. We all looked forward to it, simple good times. 🧓☮️🖖 That old train was on that unused track, since the 70's, that I know of. My friend that died in the tornadoes of 1998, he had take beautiful photos of it back in the early 90’s. They're gone with the wind...

I had my first legal drink at Church Street Station! The legal age was 19, then. My best friend at the time took me for my birthday. 🎉
