Note, that most of Taylor's band and singers have stayed with her for quite a while. Taylor's birthday is Dec 13th, and her zodiac sign is Sagittarius which is an archer.
@@nickforell1Also, the chorus goes: I've been the archer, I've been the prey It basically says that she is sometimes the victim but she can be the predator too
The way I understood “I've been the archer” and “I've been the prey” Is her saying that she has been hurt before as well as her saying she also had hurt someone before
“All of my heroes die all alone” is probably the most heart wrenching lyric. All of the people who you look up to, admire, aspire to be, rely upon, their power, their will, their passion, their grace turn out to just be as weak, defenceless, and vulnerable as you. Brave of her to think I can listen to this without sobbing lol
Very insightful reaction as always! This song is off her Lover album from 2019 which is primarily about her relationship with Joe, who she has been with since 2016. At the time they met, she had left a relationship that had elements of "Tolerate It" (her longest at that time, with Calvin Harris), and she was out to have some fun. She was done being the victim and decided to be "on the hunt", her first catch being Tom Hiddleston as portrayed in "Getaway Car" from Reputation. When she moved on to Joe, they were "card sharks, playing games" (from Cornelia Street) and she was "the architect, drawing up the plans" (from I Think He Knows). There ended up being something special there and she eventually fell for him, but she also had so much baggage and emotional damage from past relationships where she had been "the prey". This song represents her vulnerability about wanting him to be the one who stays, but no one has ever managed to stay before, she's been betrayed so many times, by both lovers and friends, she's admitting she doesn't know how to make a relationship work within the context of her fame and in spite of her residual pain, she's begging him "help me hold on to you." At the end she's tentatively proposing, "You could stay?" There are a lot of elements of "Peace" from Folklore in this as well, where she's asking if everything she can give him will be enough. Obviously his answer to both was yes. These BBC Live Lounge acoustic sessions are amazing, if you'd like to check out more: London Boy, Lover, and You Need to Calm Down (from the Lover album), Holy Ground (from Red), and a cover of Can't Stop Loving You (originally by Phil Collins). Another great performance of her Lover era songs is City of Lover Live From Paris, her only true concert of this era because her entire tour was cancelled during Covid, hence the title "Eras Tour" for her current tour, since she has released 4 albums since her last tour, which was Reputation in 2018.
This song is about her boyfriend actor Joe Alwyn. They have been together since 2016. When she sings "you can stay" I feel like she’s talking to her fans and of course Joe and also when she sings "I’m ready for combat" I think she’s saying she’s ready to fight for her relationship with Joe and make it work ❤
Combat, ready for combat changes by the end of the song. At the beginning she’s preparing for her relationship to be a fight and to be violent in some way, but by the end she realizes that her relationship is worth the work and she’s ready to fight together with her partner instead of against them
This song is off her album "Lover" which is mainly about her current relationship of >6 yrs...... about the album rights, she lost the rights to her first 6 albums and she's recording all of them, she is done with 2 as of now
The album lover where this song is from, I don't know why but some fans think that it is not a good album. However, in my defense, lover is a great album especially if we're talking about lyricism. Some of her best lyrics is on lover with songs like the archer, cornelia street, death by a thousand cuts, afterglow, and a lot more. I guess people are basing it off her lead singles for this album (which I genuinely think are not bad).
Lover is a very "glitter gel pen" album. A lot of fluff, but mixed in are some really strong ones. For me, it's a very mixed bag of an album. I do really enjoy almost every song on it, including the ones that are mostly fluff, but if I had to compare it to other albums of hers... I dunno, ranking Taylor Swift songs or albums is kind of a losing game, IMO. Even when they're weak it's only weak relative to her other work. I guess I just have to be in the right mood to vibe with most of the songs on Lover.
All of my heroes die all alone.. I think that is actually talking about all of the people that Taylor idealizes for being strong and independent have died strong and, well, independent and that she doesn't want that. she wants to learn to be vulnerable
Loved the reaction! Maybe if I could give you a small tip, it would be to pull up the lyrics to the song you’re reacting to in another window. That way it might be easier to pause and read it so you wont miss anything. Great job, Nick! I’ve been really enjoying your videos!
I was just wondering if you will be doing some faster songs. Taylor's lyrics are great at both. Someone mentioned Getaway car from the Reputation album and tour. Maybe see it live too.
The archer analogy reminds me of Cupid shooting arrows to make people fall in love. She's made other people fall in love with her, and she's had other people seduce her. She's had several songs talk about how intentional she was when she decided she wanted a relationship with Joe (Mastermind: "What if I told you none of it was accidental, and the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me? I laid the groundwork and then, just like clockwork, the dominoes cascaded in a line" Ready for It...?: "In the middle of the night, in my dreams (my dreams), I know I'm gonna be with you, So I take my time (eh)" Paper Rings: "Cat and mouse for a month or two or three, Now I wake up in the night and watch you breathe") This song seems a variation of the same theme. She's been the hunter and the prey when it comes to seduction, and it's never worked out. Now, she's brushing off her bow and arrow and trying again... and hoping he's the one who will stay."
Archers in movies/books are killing ppl or animals. She has hurt and been hurt before, so she’s been the archer but she’s also been the Prey(a target) that’s how I took it

Taylor is in the closet. This song is about the facade she puts up in order to maintain her privacy. That frustration you're talking about is about being unable to tell people who she really is, and wondering if people can see through her relationship with Joe. All of her heroes died all alone because they couldn't be outward about their same sex relationships
Note, that most of Taylor's band and singers have stayed with her for quite a while. Taylor's birthday is Dec 13th, and her zodiac sign is Sagittarius which is an archer.

Ah, yes that's a good way of looking at that line!
I thought the same/similar
I’ve killed relationships and others have killed the relationship
That’s how I have always read it too, that line hits me really hard
