My question is...did you do a3/4 drop from DJM? And did you have any vibration/ shaking when driving.. because bof the drop kit? And did you have to install shims..on rear axle? What degree of shims did you use? Thanks..God bless
So, did you drive it with the sway bar after you reinstalled it? Any issues, did you keep it that way or did it not work. I was talking with DJM tech service and they recommended to move the whole bracket about an inch forward and drill new holes.
I have an 87 had the same sway bar problem but my skid plate was a different and I couldn't flip it because the mounts that held sway bar wouldn't fit simply slid plat forward an inch drill new holes I got plenty of clearance I still had to flip it to the top and flipped the link side-to-side but there's lots of spring clearance
Pull the slapper bar out and it gives you about another inch of drop. I just recently lowered mine too. You’ll need new u bolts and new leaf spring center bolts also
Trailblazer Films I did that one because I want to do long bars soon and to get a little more drop. The leaf above the slapper is a half leaf too. I think I may pull that one once I get the long bars
Trailblazer Films Go look on the web on RUclips the 454ss va Lightning built they did on there you can get a little more information about the Lower the lightning
Love the truck I been wanting one for years man , but the price ranges are crazzyy. Hopefully I could get one for under 10k, if you don't mind me asking how much did you buy your ⚡for!!! 😁💪
Dumb question. But you did remove the nut from the stud right? If yes then the bolt shaft prob has a ton of rust build up keeping it from sliding out. I’d soak it with some penetrating fluid then heat it up with a torch to loosen some of the rust then take the hammer to it while it’s hot.
@@JJBanuelos Yeah, got the spring retainer nut and the lower nut off. Hit it with the propane torch and some PB Blaster. I'll let if sit overnight. Thanks for the reply!
For anyone who might run into this problem in the future. I ended up getting one side off by putting a 25in breaker bar on the bolt to get it spinning, than I was able to smack it out with a dead blow. The other side I had to use a big 1/2in drive impact for a few minutes because the breaker bar wouldn't do the trick. Once it's spinning it will come out.
Did you have any issues with your rear sway bar links bolting up? I figure since the sway bar is bolted to the rear end and the rear end is now 4” higher (closer) to the frame it would make the sway bar links too long.
No problem at all with sway bar what’s so ever. I would recommend getting smaller bump stops & possibly even shock extenders for your shocks if their not drop shocks
@@JJBanuelos cool, I know the stock tire size for the gen 2’s was 295/45r18, but I really liked the way those on your truck looked once you lowered it. I’ve got a set of LMR replica wheels and I was worried about clearance with the stock tire size. Thanks!
It actually rides nice, it’s obviously a little stiffer ride but not too bad. Not c-notched just had to remove the bump stop from the rear to give the axle more clearance
@@JJBanuelos is the clearance comfortable without the notch? Im considering this drop and if i dont have to chop my frame i might go for it sooner than I thought
On the rear, did you use lowering shocks and a shorter bump stop? If so where did you get them or did it come with the kit? I already have the shackles so just need the hangers. Thanks
Dis you have any problems with the steering ? I just did exactly the same of what you did and for some reason the steering is not steaty , jerks to left and right , any advice ? Alignments? , thank you
Yeah that’s sounds like your alignment could be way off. My steering wheel was way off centered & needed a new cam adjust nut on top to get the alignment just right
Do these parts fit on an 86 f150? Im having issues finding lowering components for my year truck but i think all these front ends are built the same. Am i wrong about that?
I had about 3in from axle to bump stops. Then I lowered the rear more by removing 2 leaf coils out which dropped it about another 1in. I removed bump stop & bracket & still have about 3-4inch between axle & frame.
Yeah I head about that but not sure if it’s for the gas engine or diesel one. They are different end links & both don’t look like they would bolt up. I’ll have to do more research
I turned the front cross member brace around & then swapped driver & pass end links. It bolted right up. I can send you pics of how i have it if your message me on Instagram. Trailblazerfilms1
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost the account password. I would love any tricks you can give me!

You should go on Facebook and enter a Gen 1 Lightning Group. They have some cheap ones for sale

Which hole in the rear shackle did you put the leaf spring in?
Are those beams, are specific for each side or doesn't matter what side you put it on it ? Are both the same length ?
Yeah there specific to each side one is a lot longer then the other. Would be pretty hard to install incorrect
@@JJBanuelos thank you !
What type of nut do you use on those Lightning gen 2 wheels
I know you've got the new wheels on the truck now, but do you remember what size tire was on the gen 2 Lightning wheels in this video?
They were 255/55r18 all the way around

Yup I sure do, check out my channel

I installed the 5 inch rear flip kit from DJM and bought the shocks too and its really bouncy from the rear.. is it supposed to be like that?
Not sure bro I didn’t install that version. But anytime you drop any truck/car that much your going to expect the ride to be pretty bouncy.
What is the beam called that you replaced?
Do these parts fit on an 86 f150? Im having issues finding lowering components for my year truck but i think all these front ends are built the same. Am i wrong about that?
No bull noses are different, the aero nose and bricknose are the same. Try djm suspension they should have parts if not eBay tbh
I ordered stuff for 90s trucks and used 90s front spindles and brakes. Worked fine.
So what end up happening with the front sway bar install? Any updates...
I may have to do a solo video on this I get questions about it a lot. It’s hard to describe how to do it.
We would really appreciate if you do a video
How much clearance do you have between the rear axle and frame. I did a rear axle flip kit from DJ M and now my frame sits on the axle

@@JJBanuelos hi my name Walter I have a 94 lightning I'm looking for a crankshaft for it can you help please.
Have you changed anything on the suspension since this video ?
Since then I’ve removed the slapped bar from the rear leaf pack & added a set of traction bars. To eliminate wheel hop from the drop

Did sway bar clear springs
Yes it did clear.
Has anyone bought and installed the 2/4 drop kit that belltech offers for this truck?
very nice truck

What size tires do you have to use
Currently right now I have in the front a 255/45r18 & the rear is a 305/40r18 with no rubbing at all
Nice
Thanks!
How much was the lowering kit
When I purchase it, it was like a little over $800 I think it’s on sale right now. It’s like $650!! Definitely worth it!
did you use the same stock springs?
Yes I did. Going to see how much clearance I have with the new wheel/tire setup to see if I need to go higher
What are those rims?
These were gen2 Lightning wheels.
@@JJBanuelosby any chance do you remember the tire sizes ? Are they stock gen 2 ?
