- Archery can be frustrating at times. That is a simple fact. Just when you think you have things rolling, a piece of humble pie can smack you right in the face. The way we handle our shooting frustration will determine how fast, and how effectively, we get back to owning the x-ring. In this session of the School of Nock, John Dudley will share some advice on how to deal with shooting frustration in archery so that you can be the best archer possible as much as possible.

I have it frequently. So glad you made this video. My wife asked “Do you actually like shooting the bow?” I do, but not when I can’t figure out why my shot isn’t working!
Ha! Keep up the good work!
"The only arrows you can control are the ones still in your quiver."
That's wisdom. 🙌
I want to thank you for taking the time to make this video sir,
Thank you and have a blessed week.
Dale
Tell me about frustration: two weeks ago I had my first team shooting (recurve) and during the elimination round my upper nock point departed from my string. Made it difficult for me to release the arrow in a half-way controlled manner. Let to early elimination of my team. Bad feeling on my side as you can imagine. Was a nice reminder that for me archery might be better a solo-sport as I don’t like to be the success limit for a team that way. As solo shooter I only need to blame myself. And that one is a bit easier to manage, I think.
A couple years back I left a three D shootdown frustrated. Told myself I'd never shoot another command shot and I'd work to incorporate your system of pulling the elbow toward a wall behind me. I'm less frustrated shooting and a heck of a lot better. Shot eight up on a challenging course two days ago. I watch all your productions and credit you for my improvements. Dud, you are helpful and I appreciate it more than you know. Thanks. You are a great coach.
Way to go Roger! I am so pumped to hear this and I am proud of you for staying strong and working through your issues the correct way. NICE JOB!
I actually laughed out loud. Hunting with a bow for me has been an emotional roller-coaster over the years. I tell people I do it because I love it, you have to. The blown stalks, the animals just out of range the long waits. There's not much to like sometimes but I love it
It can definitely be a roller coaster ride but once you have experienced it, it does become such a passion!
TAC Michigan in the morning. Took the day off work to shoot with my wife and son. I could miss every target and still have a great day. But thanks for the pep talk.
Glad you are loving archery!
I shot a 3d this past weekend. Broke 3 and lost 2. It happens. I have learned from you that your best shot is your next shot. I always try and focus on the shot process you have explained and put the anger in the quiver. I don’t shoot x’s cause they make me feel good, but I sure try😉thanks for yet another great video!
Well said Jon! Keep up the good work!
Boy that video struck a nerve you are so right going to reset thank you for that those encouraging words
Glad to hear, Ken! Hit that reset button and get after it!
I just had this exact thing happen to me in PA on the NockOn Course! It really ate at me the whole day! Appreciate the video!
man that Nock On course had a few DOOZIES!! It was my favorite course by far though. I can't wait to be back on that hill next year!!
@@bwagner71 I agree. Planning on going back as well. Hope we get the same weather! It was perfect Friday-Sunday!
Watching this at 4am after the most frustrating shoot yesterday in a competition and now low on confidence (my worst session by quite some distance in my eight months of archery).
Archery is my zen place that takes away my frustrations.
Good video. I just had it this evening
Spot on.
Thank you!
Dude I appreciate your advice.
Thanks, William. I hope it helps!
Great advice!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks great advice 🥳
You bet, Robert!
We need to check the synchronization when it arrives like this .The lower block comes later, the arrow flies higher, that's all. .
LMAO... I thought I was the only nut that talks to his arrows. Good to know I´m not alone.
You are not alone, brother! Keep On Nockin' and Keep On Talkin'!
Archery is 90% mental.
What type of arrows are you using I’m looking for the four fletched kind
I use both the Nock On Signature Easton Axis and FMJ arrows that you can find at nockonarchery.com. We do offer pre-fletch so they come to you cut, fletched and ready to go. Good luck!
Golfers have a similar choke condition known as the YIPS... dare I even say the word. Playing well the real potential to shoot a personal best ...but, the gimme putts stop going automatically in as usual. What should be a one putt becomes two and what be two becomes three putting. I know this from personally and it destroyed my confidence and even the love of the game for time. The better the golfer the bigger the toll it takes. A good golfer should make most of their makable putts
🤘🏻
All of my arrows would be in TIMEOUT...lol!
Support comment ;)
Golf is way worse!!!! And me losing my marbles snapping my driver over my knee is a lot cheaper than throwing my bow across the room!!!!!😅😆😂😂
Sometimes that 1 arrow just really want to go to and stay in the bush. Sometimes you have to give your arrows their way...
Golfers talk about the importance of a short memory….
100%!
