Man,what a nice surprise. He’s brilliant.
Can we have a The Captain meets The Captain?
Split screen magic?? 😂
I had the exact same though yesterday!
@@andertons yes, please 🙂
That would be great, get Rob or Pete to host it!
@@Ragnakaos cool haha!
24:55 - That is outstanding. This is a great interview. Thanks.
Great interview, thanks
Excellent stuff! Thankyou
Amazing!
*Slide takes the guitar to a whole other dimension & this guy has mastered the art of it.*
Beautiful playing and singing and a great interview thanks!
What to say more? This sound is the quintessence in this world of the beauty !
That was beautiful. Thanks guys and mr Harley.
Beautiful song beautiful voice beautiful playing beautiful sound ... never heard of this man before so glad I gave now !!! Thanks Andertons
Had the pleasure of seeing Martin play ... Love his work and his singing is just perfect for his genre
Lost art. Beautiful.
That was so good!
Cheers Cap10! Thank you for the interview and introduction to this wonderfull gentleman! I spend a wonderful Sunday night listening to his releases.
Great interview, Lee. Will look him up and listen to some tunes for sure.
Thanks for sharing.
Lee, these videos are not only amazing insight into the artists; they show us as inspiring players the struggle, anxiety, and fear many artists experience throughout their journey. I look forward to these videos each month and always take something from them I can incorporate into my own playing and approach to music, thank you.
I’ve been waiting for this one for years. Martin is one the greatest guitarists working right now. He’s an absolute gent and I’m just in awe whenever I hear his music.
A very mellow and soothing voice, less is more...
Awesome voice and playing. I'm a fan
Awesome!!!!!
Hey Andertons, you're always so educative, thanks to you I've learnt about many extraordinary artists including Landreths, Ariel, Nick Johnston and now Martin.
Woo great interview
Thanks for introducing us to a new singer-songwriter we will treasure from this day forward. A great, humble talent!
Great talent !
I've never heard of this fellow before and I quickly fell in love. I'm a huge slide fan and he has a fantastically distinct style. I'll definitely be checking out more of his music! Thanks Cap!
Marvelous!
Hey Martin I was at the Kelly Joe Phelps Union Chapel gig too, I recorded the whole gig. The sound in that chapel was heavenly, I get chills thinking about it. Love your playing and always feel inspired listening to you. Cheers
just a simple thanks, great to hear Martin play
outstanding
a great talent.......great guitar playing!!!
That was priceless.
Hey, I'm revisiting Martin's slide guitar after falling back in love with all guitar music.
Liquid gold!
Absolutely dig Martin Harley. Been playing slide (once again) consistently since 2016 now. Learnt it as a 8 year old for 2 years and hated it. Picked it up again as a 25 year old and can't be more hyped about it - dig the progress and music..and thanks to all bluesmen (slide guitarists and otherwise), for driving the flame as of today.
Fantastic can we have more videos like this the music was just up my street love slide and blues.
Great Song Martin...
“I see my voice as my weak point...” then sings like decanted brandy.
like the kid at school class before the test..."man i know nothing today for the test" , than he takes 10
The Captain must be getting tired of meeting and knowing so many amazing musicians😂. Another EPIC from Andertons I guess it never gets old for any of us. Always enjoy and learn thank you
Those back bends behind the slide are still amazing in 2021. Came here after a Duesenberg showcase.
so cool - Mr Harley is really awesome - such a great player and singer, and really seems to be a nice guy too
Flo Kappeller I can assure you he is. Very old friend of mine. He’s also hilarious.
Liked during the intro jam, Martin is just so cool XD
I've just started learning slide after 30 years of playing and it's fun fun fun. Be good to see Lee break out the slide with some of his jams with Pete, Chappers + the rest of the crew.
Saw Martin at Isle of Wight festival 2015 I’m guessing... with maybe 20 other people on a tiny stage... Incredible! Highlight of the festival for me, him and Stiff Little Fingers, also incredible! Pure awesomeness
What an awesome intro!
So much soul Martin!!
Also feels great to hear someone talk about Kelly Joe Phelps!! ^^
He's got that 'Roll Em Easy' Little Feat thing going on. Excellent.
A captain meets with Christ Stapleton would be AMAZING!!!! :)
Digging the vibe of Mr Martin Harley, lovely voice and songs
Can’t wait for the day to see the Andertons notification “captain meets John Mayer” hopefully soon with the next upcoming tour in October! I don’t think any other channel has a video of John talking about guitar for an hour our more! I cannot wait!
Ryan Newman We have the same dreams, my friend! I’m going to the show on the 13th and I’m literally damp with excitement
Always fascinating to hear Martin Harley talking.
I play a bit of lap slide out at open mics -it’s always a talking point and often it’ll silence a noisy pub whilst I’m playing.
Check out Larkin Po for a way to play lap slide without the sitting problem - and some great bluesy roots music...
Seems like a really genuine dude.
First time I've ever heard someone reference Kelly Joe Phelps. Killer player, singer and songwriter.
Really nice show, something a little different.
this dude is craaaaaaaaaazy
If you see him again say hi from Simon- we played in the same festival in northern France in 2006 (along with Albert Lee & Birelli Laurene!) my band at the time was Boxty. We shared a moment as well as some local home-brewed hooch!
I always wonder how many of the other Andertons channel front people get to watch behind camera, during these "The Captain meets" videos.
So many inspirational guests have passed though these doors.
It’s not a big studio! There’s normally only 1-2 people behind the cameras!
Thanks for the response to my curiosity.
The series works as a one on one as well I guess, other distractions, reactions and responses would break the rapport being established.
I'll continue to imagine those who would most appreciate a given performer being there though. :)
I liked that "sneaking" a Minor from underneath the slide trick.
That was a new one on me ...
Nice..
His comments about his voice are very surprising. Martin’s voice on Summer Shadows is in my opinion one of the soul greats.
I’ve loved his music for nearly 15 years. One of those artists where I wish they knew just how much their music means to me and just how much it has formed a massive part of the soundtrack of my life.
Nice interview and great player, I’m surprised there’s no mention of Ben Harper who is also a great weisenborn player, singer and songwriter.
His music is a big influence on me. I am currently working "Trouble".
Hello dear capt Lee, it would be so awesome if you guys manage to bring Matt Bellamy on the program? That will be epic show! Since he now own Manson guitars and such.
Great Job.
Does anyone remember Ry Cooder!?
Nut Grover GP1103 Perfect Guitar Extension Nut. I have one my Fender FR-50CE Resonator guitar. Just installs right over the nut on the guitar, lifts the strings up about ¼". If I remember correctly there was a few different sizes you can get to accommodate your specific neck on your guitar
And this is the blues folks...singing and playing about things that matter...
Beautiful instrument and he's a good singer too - look at his videos on YT. Gerry Douglas of Union Station with Alison Krauss is an astonishing player. Martin sounds much like him. I really enjoyed the songs by Martin and his playing. This is one of the better interviews Lee has done. You should get him to do a Concert at Andertons...
Great shout out for Andreas Cuuuntz!👍😎
cool 😎
Love the Meets series. I would love it if you guys could find a way to get Vernon Reid in. He is amazing.
Right...... Im gonna put a capo on the keyboards and polish the brass doodah and...........PLAY 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵👍
Lets hope its not plugged in.
Great guestspot guys, fabulous tones right there. 👍👍👍
I live in a vast old Vicarage in Pembrokeshire with a Hotrod Deluxe and a kettle, pop in and I'll dust off me 'ol Gibson dreadnought......Sundays are good (scones)!!!
Somehow made me remember Duster Bennett; bless his soul.
You had me at CooderCaster
please please please get John Butler on a Capt. Meets, he will be in europe again next year
Andrew Winton is amazing in this style!
I loved it, and those chords are actually like Django Rheinhard but on blues slide steroids :)
Good
finger picks on a lap steel! : )
Great person and player.
Thank you for the vid.
Anyone knows his tuning?
I'm only used to C6 tuning on lapsteel.
They talk about tunings later in the video.
❤
Jr Brown walks around with his lap steel.
Lovely session - well done. Martin is a treasure, for sure. It could have been longer and not been a bit boring :)
Lee - here's an opportunity. East Coast can provide a string through pick-up S shaped guitar and have a unique offering for for slide folk and Cooder followers. Ariel can help design. Something not seen or readily available elsewhere. I'd be interested ...
I think the key to this kind of music is rawness. It gives it authenticity. Think Seasick Steve.
If it's over-produced it sounds 'fake'
I'd love to see this guy jam with Justin Johnson. The world would quite possibly end.
Please make The Captain Meets Series into a podcast
It’s happening
He’s alright
10 points from the Dutch jury.
Please Lee!!! Try it. Take a fairly good acoustic, raise the action at the bridge and the bridge a bit and get some thicker strings.I think your shop can help you.
i'd like to hear martin cover jerry jeff walker
13:49 I was a Big Country member, you do remember don't you?
speaking of people that can sing just as well as they play or play just as well as they sing australian guitar player and singer IAN MOSS can do both i don't know what i like better his killer guitar playing or his awesome voice.
Captain you need BOSCOE FRANCE
You invited this guy prior to Derek Trucks?! Shocking...
Where’s captain meets agnesi ? That’s where the gold is
Can we have The Captain meets meets Donald Trump?
