As a point Vampires do have souls, very corrupted and twisted ones. And even the Stormcast have captured vampires to study their souls so it makes sense that the Idoneth would eventually do the same.

This entire Battletome has been great for the Deepkin imo. Its fleshed them out, given them amazing plot hooks to work with (the red king anyone?), and who doesn't love Fuethan slander?

I've always thought IDK should be a death book. They are basically undead elves lead by necromantic-ish immortal leaders. Nagash could easily make a deal where he pays them in souls knowing that when they die, he's just going to get them back.

I think it may be less about specifically recreating necromancy - Nagash = profit. Instead, I think it's also because as I understand it, necromancy involves living without a soul. So if they can apply that to their offspring then..... Well, no more risky raids to reveal their location, with two gods looking for them, one of which is in that realm, they have more than enough motivation to want this.

I don't think that's why they would study it. They have thrills for that and they are elves still, they would not have the lack of morals that death do.
No why they would study it is to defend themselves against it. Basically the drive of Harry potter: defence against the dark arts.
Death is going to be morphaans biggest threat and they need to know all about their enemy.

I played against the deepkin with my ogor mawtribe and by god they are a pain to remove from the table. I was holding up my own until that dude with the light kept bringing them back.

do you still do requests for lore coverage? Because i would like you to cover the Meat Miser of Odrenn. Its on page 26-27 of the hedonites of slannesh battletome, the first event of the age of sigmar timeline.

Just saying, but if the Deepkin allow themselves to be “tainted” by Death, Nagash had better own them like how he owned the Vampires when they didn’t realize their bloodline was already enslaved.

Why do some sylvaneth look like half elves

    • @DINONERD27
      @DINONERD27 2 года назад +2

What, like the ghostly elf looking units? I believe they’re the souls of the Wood Elves of the World that Was (aka Warhammer Fantasy) that died when the world ended long before the setting for Age of Sigmar began
Edit: they might also be the souls of the Elves that died during the Age of Chaos. If you look at the Cities of Sigmar range, you can see wood elf units. Those elves fled the magical forests where the Sylvaneth lived, seeking refuge in the great cities and also Azyr, the one place not invaded by Chaos. Those elves are shunned and even hated by the Sylvaneth, who view them as cowards and betrayers who left their home for dead. The ghostly elf looking units of the Sylvaneth would then be the elves who remained in the magical forests, who died in the unending wars to follow.
I could be wrong and misremembering this, but if you want to know more I think 2+ Tough has done lore videos for the Sylvaneth that go into the matter.

@@2Tough Thank you. I hoped it was a new novel... To add to your "death bonus" idea, a "life bonus" enclave : It's canon that a group of Deepkin are blessed by Alarielle because they protect a rare sea mangrove ; This is the closest thing we have to a multiclass faction.

I really like the Idoneth, but I always found their soul raids weird. I mean they bear many huge risk. Especially as many lore entries describe how namarti are more or less openly thrown into the meatgrinder, despite the souls are harvester to make them. Not to mention that its fairly likley for Akhelians or Isharann to die to, or for the raiding party to be repelled/destroyed etc. And if one raid results in a net loss, your next raid has less ressources to use, which can easily lead to a downward spiral. Amongst many other potential problems. Don't get me wrong, soul pirates are cool. But soley relying on raids to get souls creates many secondary problems.
Therefore I am kinda happy to have found a short story on reddit in which one presents their homebrew enclave. Which gets their souls through assisted suicides, harvesting souls of those about to die. In return for a painless death they also offer an escape from an potentially bad after live and a vague kind of reincarnation. With Soulrenders being akin to reapers collecting the souls. With classic soulraids being a "bonus income", e.g. via killing enenies when supporting dawnbringer crusades and such.
The story even goes into which intra and inter Idoneth conflicts arise from this process. I liked it very much.. Maybe its worth a read to you.
I would like to post a link to it, but I guess RUclips will hide this comment then. Otherwise its the Nethuneth Enclave on the age of sigmar lore subreddit

I agree. It always made sense to me that they Idoneth would want allies as much as possible. As supporting them in battle puts less risk on the Idoneth while maximizing their gains.

Another alternative is described in a Soulbound Supplement (Refuges of the Realm I believe). In this, some Idoneth are watching over an "inn" where travelers go to rest during their travel. Using a Penumbral Engine, the Idoneth kidnap some people amongst the travelers, and use the engine to make sure anyone who knew them forgets about their existence.
That's less rewarding than kidnapping an entire town, but safer.
As for why the raids, it's mostly because Idoneth initially didn't want to be known (or at least not followed) to keep their Enclave a secret from Teclis, as well as Chaos (thus why they were so fussed by Morathi stealing the Auric Lantern). Attacks which left no memory of their passing were more efficient than "trade" or other shenanigans during the earlier Age, but it is certainly true that the Age of Sigmar made the situation drastically different (thus the creation of alternative).
