Filmed in the city of Sheffield in the county of South Yorkshire. Locations include Porter Valley, Endcliffe Park, Shepherd Wheel, Forge Dam, Ringinglow, Limb Valley, Whirlow Brook Hall and Ecclesall Woods.
Written, presented, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.

The walk up to Lost Lad at Derwent, the steep walk up Pendle Hill and the Great ridge to name a small few. This walk was very enjoyable and shows that lovely walks can be closer than you’d expect. I'm really impressed by that walk and what a contrast between the two. One was a bit of everything and the second had a Hall, old works and beautiful countryside. As a seaman, I always wear a Sheffield utility sheathe knife, They hold their sharpness like no other. It was a treat to see where some of those blades originated.

It sure did have everything that walk Patrick. I loved seeing the knife grinders museum - great that so much of it is left. Sometimes you'd never know you were so close to the city. I'd imagine that area would be a top playground for us when young. I think you definitely showed the greener side of the steel city. Lovely walking. Mark
It's a vary varied walk Mark, in many cases you can't believe you're within the city limits. Glad you liked Shepherd Wheel, they've done a good job in that museum of preserving those items from the steel industry. Yeah if I lived in Sheffield that would certainly be a top playground. @solitaryrambler Endclffe Park kept me sane whilst doing my finals. Used to go down for an ice cream at 6 after being up studying since 6. Then on the weekends walk out into tge peaks and have the greenery and sun pouring into your head through your eye that has spent tge week focused on notes 2 feet away. It's necessary to get out
Like all urban areas, there are lovely places within if you know where to look. I found the section on grinding particularly interesting, since one of my ancestral lines began in Belper, moved to Sheffield, and later to Lancashire through the generations, with all the men engaged in nail making or grinding. It was an occupation that led that damaged the lungs.
The Shepherd Wheel was very interesting, a place I'd like to revisit without the camera and spend a bit more time there. Some very interesting history of the steel industry there. Many thanks Michael for watching and commenting 👍
If you enjoyed the Sheperds Wheel you should have nipped a bit further down Abbeydale road and seen Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet where several waterwheels are in use. Walking the Rivelin valley and the Loxley valley are also interesting walks

Love the vlog. Have been binge watching. Have downloaded a gpx route of the walk. Only live in Parsley Hay which isnt that farm from Sheffield. I think it is about time i gave it a good visit
