One thing to keep in mind if you may be doubting the volume of content in the game when comparing its dev time to that of the first game - for the first FFVIIR, they had to develop the entire game engine, combat mechanics, world interactions, menus, and then code and debug all of it. AND most of that was scrapped and completely redone at least once when they took the project back in house. This time around, most of that is already done, even for multiple platforms. So outside of the new combat and character development features, they were free to spend the entirety of the dev cycle on content. Locations, enemies, items, scenarios, and other new game assets. We already know it's on two discs. This game is going to be MASSIVE.
You know, if they're going to do this for summons I think the actual knights in Knights of the Round should be the original group of warriors that fought against and sealed Jenova 2000 years ago. I think that would be perfect. That's an event we know happened but we don't have any real details on.

Great idea by the interviewer to bring up the Kaiju battles in FF16. Imagine Knights of the Round vs Ruby Weapon done like the Bahamut battle in FF16 or an underwater battle between Leviathan and Emerald Weapon.
The only way I see a logical fight taking place underwater against emerald weapon would be to let Leviathan summon defeat emerald weapon. Cuz there’s no way they can fight Emerald weapon on a submarine, or wearing an underwater suit. How will they swing a sword underwater? Summoning Leviathan is the only logical way. I really hope the devs will do that. Will make more sense.
I want to be able to use summons whenever, at the start of the fight, not whenever the GAME says I can use them. That's what made summons so frustrating in 15: you couldn't use the damn things and sometimes they never even triggered throughout the entire fight. It doesn't have to be so bloody complicated!
Yeah, it's understandable that these creatures are extremely powerful, but having them deeply linked into the plot every single time is getting quite tiresome when it comes to gameplay.
Final Fantasy XIV actually went way further into the knights of the round summon. Telling the backstory of King Thordon and his twelve knights; i was massively stoked for the fight when I realized that I had to fight Knights of the Round, but also panicked a little LOL.
Not sure if you know but thankfully Max got to experience that when he played through Heavensward on stream, shame he missed out on the later stuff like XIV's take on the "Weapons" Just checked, lol stream name was "GOLDDICK LEWISON GUIDE & Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward! (7-23)" skip 7h 50m if anyone's interested in seeing Max fight KotR
I always thought the Weapons were summons since they have a giant red orb in their chest. Its also the point the party has to attack it too as if by destroying the material is how you defest them
Dude I've literally been saying that 16 was a test run for them having the Weapon fights be giant kaiju battles with summons! Ive been saying it for so long!
It sounds like they are incorporating the Summon ideas that they didnt get to finish in FF15. I think, instead of Knights of the Round being a royal power or some type of item they will have aspects of the Knights unlock in your companions and allies. So, Wedge, Biggs, and even Chadley can show up to help out as well as Zack and any playable companions. I would probably enjoy that immensely.
Was looking up Matt Mercer..he has over 400 credits. He's Levi from AoT, Leon from Resident Evil, Gannondorf from Zelda, even did VA for Akira back in 1988.
@@krismunroe9849 It would be cool if there were some summon on summon battles in FF Rebirth… as if to borrow from FF XVI. 12:05 Summons vs Weapons seems like a dope idea.
Square's been hellbent on making sure that Advent Trailer really is just a trailer for one of their games. Ever since the days of announcing Crystal Engine, with FF13 and Versus, they've been clawing at this dream relentlessly and I gotta say it's fucking paying off hard.
A full party fight against the Weapons would be so cool, and the original game had something sort of like that for the final JENOVA fight so I could see them doing that there as well, assuming the final fight of the third game in any way resembles the original
"We might not want optional outfits to be worn during more serious moments" Okay but I did new game plus in FF15 and Noctis started the game wearing the Cup Noodle hat as a result, and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, so I don't understand why anyone would want to prevent that from happening
Maybe that’s what Cloud’s VA was hinting at???!!! He did say he was safe to talk about though it was vague, but since Hamaguchi vaguely hinted at it in a press event that could be connected!!!
I never questioned the placement of the Knight of the Round summon because I was in my early teens when I played FFVII and didn’t really think of the backstory. I was just in awe of the graphics.
The link attacks from 15 were some of the coolest parts of that wo ky ass combat system lol. It really helps to sell the team dynamic when characters actively assist or defend each other
If they emulate the bahamut fight from AC it might end up being an elevated version of the eikon fights in ff16. Which in truth ff16 is really a stepping stone of assets for future FF games I think.
Max always talks about how if we see snow then that means they moved the Forgotten Capital. I bet they already did it even if we don’t see snow. They’ve already said things will be out of order, and if they had contemplated about finishing the series with 2 games. Then that means this middle section has to go surprisingly far. Obviously they went with 3 games, but I’m still betting that the vast majority of the OG will be in Rebirth.
The detail with the summons is a very interesting expansion on what FF does not very overtly throughout the series which is magic as knowledge. Crystals throughout the series are often used as means to record information, like how the spheres in FFX can even record video in them. In FF7, materia is described as crystallized memories of the planet, so it wouldn't be out of place if an entity, be it real or not, that occupied the minds of several people in the past would manifest as materia in the future the same way the planet manifests weapons to defend itself.
I think Cloud has a vision of when he was a toddler and they show him as a toddler and he still has the same hair and he tried to voice him as a toddler which is "almost another language". It would be surprising and hilarious.
I was thinking alternate costumes will totally be a thing in NG+ too, maybe there'll be different outfits for beating the game too? And they'll totally have a swimsuit filler episode in Costa del Sol.
Allow me to nerd out a bit: what if… instead of getting KOTR summon in a random island like in ff7 og. Instead, its on a huge lost civilization island (akin to Atlantis) where they have monuments of the KOTR scattered throughout, indicating that the were once revered as gods…And we have to solve this huge puzzle temple (like the one in ff15 secret dungeon). We also get some end game gear there and ofcourse the best reward - KOTR summon.
oooh ... Kotor being story relevant to the final battle would be AMAZING - I imagine a mass effect 2 style suicide mission where there will be obstacles that you need to have prepared for and if you don't there will be consequences. maybe a fully aquired kotor let's you skip Bizarro sephiroth or Jenova . or like ín botw, as you start the fight against one of them, they take out a chunk of their HP based on how many you've collected
In regards to them maybe showing too much, I do think it’s fair to wonder how much more content there is, in terms of gameplay and stuff to engage with in the world. It was a similar discussion with FF16, they showed a ton of that game leading up to release, and the thought was they probably were withholding some stuff until release. As it turned out they practically showed us the entire game lol. Granted this is a different team and seems to be larger game world, mini-games, etc. I just wonder if there is much more to engage with in the world beyond what they’ve shown. As much as I liked FF16, it’s world was barren and I hope FF7Rebirth is more feature rich.
i want a playable sephiroth that i can use in arena style modes or some shit. or VR related sephiroth stuff. i think that would be really cool as long as it's optional fun side content.
Max... you're fucking killing me with trying to emulate Advent Children Bahamut fight in real time in Part 3. That's all I'm going to be thinking about now for the next four years.

7 was always weird with the summon as part of the story, they always look like secundary and just tools, not like 6 or 8 that they were integral part of the story.
Well, there's already been plenty of references to Advent Children (the biggest one being that you literally get to fight them or at least some form of them in the remake) so I believe that there could be a fight against Bahamut SIN as a reference to AC
So summons are still tied to VR battles? That kinda blows imo but I'm glad they'll feel more like FFX summons. Also hopefully we will have optional outfits ingame, I'm hoping for an Advent Children outfit for Cloud in Part 3
Honestly, I hope the team behind FFVII RE- are watching Max's videos because all his inputs are just perfect and if they haven't thought of things like costumes in new game + or advent children team battles against weapons they should really do it.
Does anyone have a link to the twitch video that Max is watching here please (the voice actor panel)? I've been looking for the official version over the last few days but can only find streamers talking over it or fan cams from inside the room. Cheers :)

Great idea by the interviewer to bring up the Kaiju battles in FF16. Imagine Knights of the Round vs Ruby Weapon done like the Bahamut battle in FF16 or an underwater battle between Leviathan and Emerald Weapon.
Bahamut (ZERO, Neo, basically any of them) vs Ultimate Weapon is one I see happening too.
@@lukasruston8618 That's another fight I want to see.
Matt literally getting his dream roles of Ganondorf and Vincent!
I love being a part of this community 😭
Me too and what a great comment 😁, been playing FF and watching Max for years
Me too, save for the toxic parts of FF fandom.
Me three. I am pretty new, but still✌
More Kaiju battles is always fine with me.
Just as I was looking for something FF7 to watch this pops up. I love it when those tiny little wins happen 😊
Max is like "I don't want spoilers". BUt went to play a demo earlier than anyone in the public xD
Final Fantasy XIV actually went way further into the knights of the round summon. Telling the backstory of King Thordon and his twelve knights; i was massively stoked for the fight when I realized that I had to fight Knights of the Round, but also panicked a little LOL.
Not sure if you know but thankfully Max got to experience that when he played through Heavensward on stream, shame he missed out on the later stuff like XIV's take on the "Weapons"
Just checked, lol stream name was "GOLDDICK LEWISON GUIDE & Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward! (7-23)" skip 7h 50m if anyone's interested in seeing Max fight KotR
@nocturnalscotsman I did not know this I'll have to check that out ^^ Max's reaction to realizing what he was fighting would be priceless
Bahamut vs Ultimate Weapon will be cinema
I always thought the Weapons were summons since they have a giant red orb in their chest. Its also the point the party has to attack it too as if by destroying the material is how you defest them
They are the planet's Summons.
amazing, there soo many sinergy attacks, but the best one in this video is Cloud and mr.Dolphin sinergy attack
Max also thought they showed way too much of Remake. And then we played the game and realized there's so much more to the game.
I've often wondered why no one from the Shinra team can summon? I mean they are actually manufacturing materia seems like they should be able to.
I mean genesis did use summons
And well he is soldier
Well ex soldier
One could reason there are probably laws in place preventing the use of summons near cities due to damage. Would be cool if that was stated though
@@krismunroe9849 It would be cool if there were some summon on summon battles in FF Rebirth… as if to borrow from FF XVI. 12:05 Summons vs Weapons seems like a dope idea.
cannot wait for the longplay of this game on the channel
Square's been hellbent on making sure that Advent Trailer really is just a trailer for one of their games. Ever since the days of announcing Crystal Engine, with FF13 and Versus, they've been clawing at this dream relentlessly and I gotta say it's fucking paying off hard.
FF7 Rebirth News!!!!!! It’s like blood to my viens.
Summons vs the Weapons? Kaiju battles?…like in, you know, FF16? 👀
A full party fight against the Weapons would be so cool, and the original game had something sort of like that for the final JENOVA fight so I could see them doing that there as well, assuming the final fight of the third game in any way resembles the original
FF16 did the Kaiju thing. the largest set pieces were Ifrit vs other Eikons and they are sweet, huge spectacles.
I think that will be cool that summons will be part of the story especially knights if the round
"We might not want optional outfits to be worn during more serious moments"
Okay but I did new game plus in FF15 and Noctis started the game wearing the Cup Noodle hat as a result, and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, so I don't understand why anyone would want to prevent that from happening
controlling a summon to fight a weapon would be awesome 😮
Maybe that’s what Cloud’s VA was hinting at???!!! He did say he was safe to talk about though it was vague, but since Hamaguchi vaguely hinted at it in a press event that could be connected!!!
That thing Cait Sith is on was a fat Moogle? I always thought it was a fat marshmallow plush like the thing from Mario Rpg
I never questioned the placement of the Knight of the Round summon because I was in my early teens when I played FFVII and didn’t really think of the backstory. I was just in awe of the graphics.
The link attacks from 15 were some of the coolest parts of that wo ky ass combat system lol. It really helps to sell the team dynamic when characters actively assist or defend each other
The menu option to Upgrade Weapons is still in Rebirth. I saw it in one of the demos.
Well if they can do what the did for FF16, summon vs weapon fights are gonna be insane.
The costume answer suggests we get to the snow area in this game - mandatory costume changes = winter clothes when you're in that part of the world.
Not quite. I think is going to be the opposite. Summer clothing in costa del sol.
No way, they give summons background like in ffx? I loved this!
I’d love to see The synergy of Cloud and Barret or Barret and Tifa⭐️
If they emulate the bahamut fight from AC it might end up being an elevated version of the eikon fights in ff16. Which in truth ff16 is really a stepping stone of assets for future FF games I think.
Kotor was added to FF7 because they made round Island before they decided what summon to hide there.
You had weapons vs summons in kingsglaive. Diamond weapon vs Knights of the round
I never realized just how much Max’s voice sounds like Matt’s! 😂 I can’t unhear it now.😊
Max always talks about how if we see snow then that means they moved the Forgotten Capital.
This is incorrectly titled as remake interview when it’s rebirth interview.
Fair enough...
I wonder if exploring the lore of summons with Chadley, will he at the dig site, where you get the key back to midgar
It would make even more incentive to travel the huge world map in part 3.
They should have a lengthy mini game in Golden Saucer that has the Original Graphics and battle mode.
Maybe Knights of the Round you have to recruit all 13 Knights ?
Every time there's an update it's always good news, because it's a day less we have to wait for Rebirth
Turns up the volume to hear the interview. Max starts talking ,"oh god my ears" lol
4:59 Red on Chocobo is just lol.
Regarding the costumes question. I'm sure they'll just let modders take care of that on PC like with Remake.
Easily my most anticipated game for next year 🔥
I'm pretty confident he was taking about the episode he has at the temple.
What happens at the temple isn't funny. He is most likely talking about the play at the Gold Saucer or some other mini game thing.
I have no idea what’s going on with this game but I will watch for max.
42 character synergy combinations. Which is also the answer to life. This truly is the game of all time 😮
Humm ? I didnt know that
@@johannparis9445 oh its a hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reference. Lol.
i want a playable sephiroth that i can use in arena style modes or some shit.
or VR related sephiroth stuff.
i think that would be really cool as long as it's optional fun side content.
As a Kingdom hearts' Colosseum Hercule one ?
Everyone talk about knight but i think will see Minerva too
Max... you're fucking killing me with trying to emulate Advent Children Bahamut fight in real time in Part 3. That's all I'm going to be thinking about now for the next four years.
replaying remake and crisis core before Feb 28. Pre-order has already been done on Amazon. The hype is real.
I'm calling it right here and now. Cloud transforming into something is going to be part of the stage play he takes part in at the Golden Saucer.
Exact and the stage will be very interesting even for ...others things.
I am pretty sure Briana was referung to..deep down
After the stage is not a random moment. Yuffie is clearly wearing a costume in the trailer as well
Just wait for Andy " Oh Cloud ! Welcome to the..Golden saucer !"
Dio look like also a part of it
And if the rendez vous scene here as i think...well it s going to be emotionnal..
Cloud " Nope"
Aerith " but Cloud you werd so pretty in this dress and dance like a handsome dancer ! "
Cloud " Nailed it , i know , moving on"
More seriously i can see one scene who wull be adorable , emotionnal and well sad un part..
Hint Rapsberry as The Princess
If you encounter his parents and father
Maaaaan, i really hope KH4 gets this much love
@user-lt7by2qt3l i have a feeling he will, its a new start with a fresh trilogy and hes learned alot
A change is needed, the only summon really useful in the Remake was Carbuncle...
frog was in the first game but wasn't it incredibly limited overall?.... would like to see it used more as a regular status ailment in the same level as sleep/paralysis/poison etc
7 was always weird with the summon as part of the story, they always look like secundary and just tools, not like 6 or 8 that they were integral part of the story.
Damn if we could do something like that Advent Children scene, I would shit bricks
Well, there's already been plenty of references to Advent Children (the biggest one being that you literally get to fight them or at least some form of them in the remake) so I believe that there could be a fight against Bahamut SIN as a reference to AC
Part 3 is going to have some epic FF16 type battles, I can't wait.
Solid stuff, definitely trying to restrain my expectations
So summons are still tied to VR battles? That kinda blows imo but I'm glad they'll feel more like FFX summons. Also hopefully we will have optional outfits ingame, I'm hoping for an Advent Children outfit for Cloud in Part 3
Honestly, I hope the team behind FFVII RE- are watching Max's videos because all his inputs are just perfect and if they haven't thought of things like costumes in new game + or advent children team battles against weapons they should really do it.
Oh THAT’s what that internet Spirit Bomb was!!!
Does anyone have a link to the twitch video that Max is watching here please (the voice actor panel)? I've been looking for the official version over the last few days but can only find streamers talking over it or fan cams from inside the room. Cheers :)
Max’s FFVII joy is my FFVII joy.
‘They pranked me!’ That team sounds fun :)
Jesus, I so can't wait to see KOTR in action, it will be beyond heavenly.
i just realized. The reason they go to great lengths for the pairings in combat...It's to twist the knife deeper when we could no longer use that pairing.
