You can still hear raw talent. She has some solid moments here like this riff at 0:46. Very well executed. Also 0:38 nice resonance on that belt. Poor girl was just cold and unable to hear herself

It's just her nodules that acted that night and the media tried to dragged her to the ground. But last year in 2020, when she showcased excellent vocals, the media was nowhere to be found. This is a Christmas tradition for me lolll so fucking funny. Between this performance and the videos of her backup dancers picking her up 😚👌🏼 but my favorite part is that regardless, she’s STILL one of the best voices of all time and will always be the ICONIC Mariah fucking Carey.
I don't care what anybody says, this performance was not even that bad! She still had the tone, the agility and the resonance. She was just shaky and her falsetto was not the best, but most of her runs were still pretty great! A lot of people don't care that she was literally going through a divorce and was crying before this performance, not to mention that it was cold outside, and she still sounded pretty good, so give the woman a damn break!!! Y'all can say whatever you want, but to this day, Mariah Carey can still outsing most of the music industry! I said what I said and I stand by it!
Dang, I wish other singers sounded this good when they're older and have a bad day. It's incredible she still puts 90% of vocalists to shame. She really set the bar that high.
It’s too bad she hasn’t taken better care of her voice. It’s possible this was the result of bad vocal decisions shortly before the performance. Who knows. But I suspect it isn’t. It’s not her age that’s the problem (Celine can still belt out her hits rather well, and Adam Lambert still sounds incredible). It’s her lack of respect for her instrument. God, I absolutely fell in love with her voice back when she started, especially as someone who was studying voice and pursuing a music career. She had such an incredible sound. For the first decade or so, she kept her voice in decent shape. Clearly, there’s still something there, but the damage has been done; that break in her voice is probably permanent. The best she can do now is to reimagine her hits in a way that’s vocally easier for her to manage, leaving out all the melismas, whistle notes, and higher register notes. This is an old performance, so maybe she’s worked on her voice to salvage what she can, but I haven’t heard any great performances from her since that I can remember. Surgery and definitely a good year of vocal rest could possibly do some good, along with several months of retraining.
