    Thanks - very helpful video. I have an L55 and I wanted to replace the hard drive with an SSD - having a road-map that shows how to take off the back, pop out the DVD, gently extract the hard drive, etc was immensely helpful - hope you do more "take-apart" videos - it's a public service (and I hope you make a few bucks off you-tube in the process). All the best ....

    Sir, I really need your help. So far I think you're the only one that can help me. I have a Toshiba Satellite L55-A5299. Two years ago the screen stopped working, so I had to find a way to access the BIOS and configure it to use my TV as the screen haha. It's was hard. Then I used your video to disassemble the laptop and clean it. It worked. So far so good. But I don't know when it started asking for the BIOS password. I don't know the password and I don't even know if I did set it up. So I don't if it was my fault. Anyway, how can I solve this problem????

    can you tell me what SSD is compatible with this laptop and how many mm is the DVD size ?

      The Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD, up to 560MB/s - CT1000MX500SSD1(Z) sold on Amazon works great with the laptop.

      Regular sata ssd should fit. On dvd drive size I would check eBay, find a drive and ask seller for a size.

    Great video, helped me tremendously. Question.
    I replaced the motherboard of the exact model here. L55-A5284
    I found one L55t-A5186. Same setup, body screen, everything. But with a newer i5 processor, and hd4400 graphics. Everything mounts the same. Same case design everything. Only difference is the touch screen, yet the hook up is the same connector. Only thing the new motherboard did not come with ram. I swapped the 2×4 gb from the original mobo to it.
    I put this all back together. Wasn't very difficult. I lost 1 case screw. After reassembly it won't boot. Won't power on. No lights no sound. Nothing. Figuring the new motherboard was bad, (which it was tested good and has warranty) I put the old one back in. Re assembled and the same result. Nothing. No sound, lights, nothing.
    Is there something I should be doing that im not? I got this for pennies, for my kids who are in school. The new mobo had battery cmos, processor, vent tube and cooling fan attached. (Yes the processor is there).
    Hoping you might have some insight. Thanks.

      Aside from the usual questions, like did you locked cpu(unless it is build-in) once you placed it back, I would also try it on a external screen. Also, if you have two memory units, I would try one of each in different ports.
      I would start with memory, than ext. screen and after than cpu.

    • @adamcrocker1419
      @adamcrocker1419 4 года назад

      Locked CPU? Both motherboards have CPUs inside under cooling tube. Never touched, and both solid (tight) . I just stripped it back out. Replaced the original again, (this one was working before. ) re connected every wire, and keyboard, drained residual power holding power down for a minute, leaving battery unhooked, plugged power cord in. Nothing. I'll try swapping memory around again. Though, I've tried almost every combo.

      @@adamcrocker1419 I thought you removed a cpu. If not touched, it should be fine how it was before.

    • @adamcrocker1419
      @adamcrocker1419 4 года назад

      Nope, I just swapped the mobos. Neither will even start to boot. Im in the process of rebuilding with the new mobo. Then swapping the memory into different slots, after that. I have no idea what else to try.

    did you have to remove the keyboard or doing anything on top of the computer to remove the hard drive?

    • @cizzy74

      This video shows all parts removed, although for the HHD to swap for SSD all I had to do was the cd drive pull, and back RAM door to replace the plug, not pull the RAM. When you see the HD do as he did pull rubber casing off and just put on your new SSD. Be sure to blow fan and clean while this moment is upon you, it made all the difference. MY boot time is 2secs now and don't hear my poor old idle of my gross fan anymore. LIKE A BRAND NEW LAPTOP!!

    Do you have to disco battery if removing hdd? and what would be a good ssd (prob just need a 240gb) for this computer, giving to my mom.

    • @kennywhiddon1497
      @kennywhiddon1497 4 года назад

      You do not have to remove or disconnect the battery to replace the hard drive. Samsung 860 EVO, Sandisk Ultra and Western Digital Blue are good SSD's.

      @@kennywhiddon1497 Yeah i already did it, with a crucial bx500 240gb ssd. works way better than i thought it would. and was easier than i thought it would be, i watched a couple videos on youtube. its on old l55-a5226 toshiba laptop. does the basics pretty well, pretty speedy. $40 only.

      You need to check the motherboard v- number and search on eBay how it looks like. Also exact specs should be the answer.
