Most people just don't understand X Defense. They want to pretend they can take hits and survive for free instead of strategizing a win condition that works for real. Defense types are more than just a Defense bit, this is balance. This high LAD build was to use Rudder's destabilization slope blade with the 80 height and Hexa's burst resistance to protect itself from lower height attacks.
Defence needs less stamina than stamina builds, a tanky design, weight, bit resistance, and enough aggression to fight back against beys, without the detriment of itself. This is the first classified defence type that is actually good, keep in mind "classified" does not mean defence in general, just the blade that is advertised for defence, not defence as a whole, if so, we have tons of options for defence like, WR, TB, PW, etc, but this might outclass all of those options for defence only. Personally, PR was such a wasted blade, having no stamina, average weight, and bad shape which makes it practically useless for anything. Defence is my favourite type, and LeonCrest does it so right, giving good weight, good shape, enough aggression to fight back, and enough stamina to out last attackers without it being enough to outclass stamina builds, although we don't have a tight defence resistant bit, they can make up for it in terms of design, like a rubber needle, or ball. Edit: 100% agree that there needs strategy in BBX defence, stupid why a person would think just launching it, without any skill could just magically, consistently win against attackers.
Kind of a hot take, but I think Rudder does better when it is taller than its opponent. A lot of people just slap 60 on it, and that is understandable given how good low height is in beyblade, but when rudder is at the same height, it can't sap stamina and tilt the opponent because the blade only makes contact with the top edge of the blade and not the sloped side. I've tested using the 9-70 it comes with and it does pretty well at destabilizing attack types.
I mean we have it on 80 in the video explicitly because of the plastic contacts and general shape of rudder. Even at these taller heights it's still not quite reliable enough against attackers.
@@FabeldBeyblades It was 80? Couldn't really tell lol! Perhaps Unite or Point could be better for it? I feel like Hexa makes its LOD worse than it already is methinks.
Tried the combo used in the vid, but I had more luck replacing 9-80 with 5-60 just cus it can counter attack and 60 height makes it more stable. It really is more of a pure defense blade tho. 8:43 meow
11:08 The Phoenic/Phoenix chrome wheel from MFB Zero-G is similarly shaped to Rudder, but like Rudder is held back by its lack of weight (only weighing 29.8 grams). While it had smash attack potential, the lackluster weight made is useless compared to better Chrome/Fusion wheels, like Flash, Vararies, or even Bahamdia/Bahamoote and Pegasus. So yes, similar design/shape and I guess similar performance.
3-60HN was pretty popular in theory but in reality it's super easy to burst, super easy to knock out, and super easy to destabilize. It's basically a free win for the top 5ish builds although it's decent with lighter weight opponents
Rudder is a super disappointing blade & deck set for me, but I do appreciate it being out for those that want the easy prize beys and Rudder's parts if people are the type to "want it all". 9-70 is phenomenal for many situations. Rudder itself bursts so easily, even with the most resistant build possible, its own down smashes knock it over, and when it makes contact it loses more stamina than Phoenix Wing but slightly less than say Rhino Horn. With the Burn wheel in Metal Fight it was common for a medium height with a balance bit for low recoil and lightweight barrage attacks to knock over beys instead of knock them out. That doesn't really work as much in X since the recoil kills it super fast. In fact the Optimus Primal match was the perfect showing-- Upper Attack vs Smashing Balance. It works both ways but that's exatly the point is that both beys are fair game for knockouts with no clear advantage in that aspect. Sadly these builds that require being attacked have to come out on top of the interactions with win conditions otherwise you just get these 50/50 at best odds where it's hardly a fair fight for yourself using something on par with Wizard Arrow 😂 I personally used Rudder 9-60HT, and I loved reviving my Burn Cancer 145SF playstyle from over a decade ago, but it performed so horribly that I don't wanna use it again. Another awesome video, thanks as always for sharing, I love everything you post ❤
I like these videos too in addition to the deep dives in competitive testing :)
welcome to beyblade X, where everyone tries so hard to make defense work
LeonCrest stopped that
Debatable

I much rather defense be the weakest typing in X, than attack like in previous generations.
I've had great success using it like a balanced bey. Rudder 3-60 Point has been doing good work for me.
Yeah it's a pretty bad stamina bey, so it's better built as a balance type.
Point like you say. Also good on Unite and Taper.
Everything about rudder makes me think it was suppose to be a calm balance type like hammer

Rudder is the new leonclaw
you should try dot
ENdev was seeing success with rudder high needle I believe

@@The_G_in_Jesus I wanna try it on 9-60 orb, to try to solve those issues
