  • When the first Les Paul Custom was born in 1954, the mountains shook and the heavens trembled at its awesome might and power. I might be embellishing here, but only slightly. The reason the Les Paul Custom shook up the musical world when it arrived is its alluring combination of raw muscle and elegant, stately styling. In a way, it's like the six-string equivalent of James Bond: sure, it might look fancy, but don't blink, because it's deadly and it has a license to kill.

Starting at the 1:00 mark and running for about 20 seconds, does anyone recognize what song that riff is from?
Gosh Greg is such an inspiration, masterful playing for sure.
The guitar, a solid mahogany wet dream......................

For nearly seven grand, it better be nice! Price in 1954 was $450, the equivalent to $4k today.

Real talk, at 3:12 are you just improving or is that a song you're drawing from?

I think VERY highly of these guitars, every way possible ... except the barrows of dollar bills one has to push into the store, to pay for one.

2:04 -- What?!? I have a LP Custom Lite that weighs more than that. 1987, ebony frets, the whole jazz. How'd they do it?

My 2019 reissue ‘55(same spec as this) is a single piece solid body custom with a big neck and no weight relief. Weighed in at 8.1 lbs WITH the medallion on.

    Wouldn’t 54/55 have a wrap tail piece? I see this more a 56 version.

No, the Custom LP , meant to be the high end model, had Tune o Matic from inception .
Insane playing (as usual) by GK btw
