The „lag“ was the missing link in my friend‘s Volley game (I‘ve shared this video with him). Finally it works properly after a long term lousy volley time. Thanks a lot Nick, you have done another great job here with this video! And by the way: volleying with the grip is a real bad-ass genious shot. ✌🏼😁👍🏻 all the best, Jörg
I like how these tips are put into perspective. Especially for the first two, (no take back and stepping), as I believe they are sort of correct but aimed to fix and layer down for players with low volley/hands skills. Problem is, not many coaches expand the explanation later on.
I guess I was wrong all those years. I felt that roger was taking his arm a bit but after watching again slow motion videos on him you’re right, is lagging the racket behind motion that fool me. That was very helpful, I think you are one of the top guys out there able to explain how the best players are doing it. Thanks!!
One of the best videos explaining the real volley technique, i already improved my volley on a weak and Softer balls. You really understand about tennis. :D Thank you
Another excellent tutorial Niko. I’ve already made three corrections for volleying no pace balls or weak shots as well as volleying balls with a lot of pace. Thank you.
@@IntuitiveTennis No need for all that expensive air conditioning that's for sure and we have almost no new Covid19 cases. I hope it's starting to sound attractive!
Hallo thank you for marvellous description of volley technik. Just yesterday we had aniversery fun tournament in doubles. One stronger player is partnering one weaker player and we invited Lukáš Dlouhy as a guest player/ he was winner of French and US Open doubles in 2009 as you may know and I even had the honour to play one set against him and watched jim closely at while tournament up to final/. It was unbelievable how he was playing esp volleys. All agrees with your description. On top of that I realised one of my old theories that in all shots not only volleys it is important to use both for control and power to lag your forearm by using maximální rotation in your shoulder -- of course employing kinetic chain of the body, power position, follow through etc. Making moře steps through the volley with slow balls is fantastic advice thanks for that aswell. But generally this shoulder rotation which actually is in your advice may be very underestimated?? I would like your opinion on this. Thank you very much for all your video s, which I follow with great attention
Thank you Petr, my research has shown that the best volleyers deflect the ball back in play. Therefore the body should be as still as possible with minimal rotation.
Great tips as usual. Interesting to hear that Nadal is one of the best volleyer in the world, why doesn't he use it more often, you only see him serve and volley when he is in trouble... Still waiting for some videos on how to move properly on the court and how to watch the ball 😃
@@IntuitiveTennisalready seen it but found it a bit misleading as we don't learn exatcly what to do at every time. From what I understood at contact you must watch the ball and from then you can keep your head down or follow the rotation. So I guess it means that you should not watch the target as you play the ball and only focus on your stroke?
@@IntuitiveTennis ok will do that. Indeed even when I play against the wall I can't watch the contact point it goes too fast. Thanks a lot for the replies I will wait for the next video with impatience!
EXCELLENT overview of how to volley and how NOT to volley. The "step in to the volley" tip, which was ok before power rackets and stings, has made club players terrible volleyers. Thanks!!
Would you please clarify for us. A friend last night asked me how to generate a volley with pace/power from a no pace ball. I just said after volleying take a few steps forward. Is that correct?? 😁
Question. When I’m up at net to volley why do I have a tendency to guard my face with my opposite hand instead of my racquet if the baseline hits a very hard ball direction at my head? How do I break that habit?
Of course the volley evolves into that at a more advanced level, but it is important at the beginning to understand the basics of not taking a big back swing and to step into the ball to reach it better. This tips are for more advanced players.
U said to freeze racquet on the volley on contact But you don’t freeze it yourself in the slow motion in your volleys either . Lol You follow through on your forehand volley but you didn’t on your backhand volley. Lol.
This video is great for beginners but for advanced top players do the opposite of what is said in this video. Coaching is very personal, theres no coaching tips for all levels in one instruction.

Great lesson! I was always taught to step into my volleys but rarely did it in matches
Superb lesson once again! Thanks !

Of all the shots in tennis. The volley is the worst taught and most misunderstood.
You nailed it! Well done!

nice shoes but if you reverse the loops when you tie it, you can get the bowties to be horizontal instead of vertical

Hi again! What should your grip pressure and wrist stiffness be when you volley? Should the wrist be relaxed to create the lag?

What about the advice "volley at eye level"? Good or bad?
so the stepping in, you mean by no reaching vs the person that steps forward but with a little forward walk
Add the shoulder turn and keep hands together on forehand volley to the top 5 worst tips!!😀
Would you please clarify for us. A friend last night asked me how to generate a volley with pace/power from a no pace ball. I just said after volleying take a few steps forward. Is that correct?? 😁
Lag the racquet for power, transition only when incoming ball has no pace

About that "step in" I've heard volley is made by legs
Good volley's are coming out of the legs without moving the racket back
