  • Cozumel México is an island in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula opposite Playa del Carmen.
    Cozumel is one of the ten municipalities of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
    Tourism, diving and charter fishing comprise the majority of the island’s economy.
    Cruise ships often visit the island. A few can dock virtually downtown. A larger pair of piers lies about two miles south of downtown San Miguel, and primarily serves Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ships.

      Mary Hirtle thanks! Serious question. Will I get robbed or stabbed if we go too far out? I know there have been some issues in the past but didn't know if you ever felt nervous or scared.

      +googooberries hi most cruises are very good for wheel chairs
      this port is called port maya its the south most of the 3 ports to land at in Cozumel
      there is another port north of here a few blocks but you can no walk it then there is the down town port which is in town there is nothing to buy but its nice to walk around
      in town its not wheel chair friendly and you may have some minor issues with the curbs
      GO FOR IT

      Please be careful. I've cruised many times, and the quality of medical care is sometimes not what you would expect.... you should talk to the cruise lines and find out what medical professionals are on your particular cruise. Sometimes they only have a technician.. or a nurse... but no doctor. And, depending on your mother's medical needs, that might not be enough. I was on a cruise once where a passenger had a heart attack... it took 3 hours for the Coast Guard to evacuate him off the ship by helicopter.. and that's an awful long time. Please be careful.

      Thank you for the concern and tips! Unfortunately my mother is no longer with us but I'm still considering a cruise!

    Would you suggest any port excursions here in Cozumel? Are there shops that are safe that you can barter back and forth?

    Did you get a passport to go one the cruise or your birth certificate? I'm paranoid about getting stopped and being asked for a passport and I'm going to use my birth certificate

    • @maryh8848
      @maryh8848 7 лет назад

      You have to have a passport now. Birth certificate is not enough. Even to Canada now, you must have a passport.

    • @GirlOnCOD

      Mary is half correct and half incorrect. It depends on if you are going on closed loop cruise or an open loop cruise. A closed loop cruise is a cruise that departs from a US port and arrived back at the SAME port that it departed from. This does NOT require a passport. An open loop cruise is a cruise that departs from a US port and arrives back at a DIFFERENT port. That one requires a passport. Last year I went on a closed loop cruise to the Bahamas and all I had to show was driver's license and birth certificate. I'm going to Cozumel in less than 2 weeks and I still don't have to have one because it's a closed loop. Closed loops you do NOT have to have one but the cruise lines say they recommend having one in case of emergency where you need to fly home immediately.

    You can spot the Americans a mile away...LOL Things not to wear: shorts; slip-flops, monogrammed tee-shirts, calf-high socks, baseball caps (unless you are a baseball player), and never Hawaiian shirts or never anything with the word "Mexico" on it and try to hide the camera when you're not using it. If you do these things, the locals won't hound you to death because they won't know you're a tourist.
