  • Mark Wein overcame his own Fear of Flying and became Co-Founder of the easyJet Fearless Flyer program, where he is now course director.
In this edition of Cockpit Conversations on a windy and bumpy day Pilot and Presenter Mike Roberts takes Mark on a short flight to discuss the course and discover how Mark overcame his own fears, that once stopped him from travelling affecting his not only his business but also family holidays.
It's thought that 1 in 6 people have a fear of flying. So, whether you are able to fly, but find it difficult to enjoy the flight, or if you’re unable to even get on the plane, a Fear or Flying course could be the answer. In this video Mark explains the process and the proof is plain to see on a bit of a bumpy flight!
The fear of flying course offers proven techniques to help any nervous flyer conquer their fears, and the easyJet fear of flying course is hosted by Lawrence Leyton from Channel 4’s TV Show “Fear of Flying”.
The courses also feature one of easyJet's senior Captains who will explain the principles of flight and all those funny noises and secret crew messages that you hear on-board.
A fear of flying can mean you miss out on visiting friends or family in faraway places, miss out on an overseas wedding, miss out on a dream holiday and hold back a business career. But there is help on offer. During these courses, the myths and mysteries of flying are unveiled and you'll find out that you're not alone in your fears.
    .
At the end of the day you’ll be offered a short experience flight in one of easyJet’s airbus jet aircraft that seat up to 186 passengers so you can practice all the tips and coping mechanisms that you've learned during the day. Whilst aircrews will always be sympathetic to people who are Agoraphobic or have a fear of flying, or are scared of flying and are well trained in dealing with anxious passengers, a Fear of Flyer course can really help you approach future flights or your first flight with confidence. The course has an almost 100% success rate in helping attendees overcome their fears and concerns
Different people have different fears and understanding your fear will help you overcome it. Understanding turbulence, learning about a planes safety features, chatting to flight crew, taking a flying lesson, using distraction techniques, are all good options and finding the right action to overcome your fears will help you Take Flight! Many people just have a fear of having a panic attack. Mark and Lawrence and team are there to help you overcome these problems and the results are extraordinary.
Turbulence is nothing more than wind currents that cause planes to move about a bit, not unlike driving on a bumpy road or sailing on a choppy sea. Planes are specifically designed to handle and minimise turbulence. Modern aircraft have technology to predict areas of turbulence, so that pilots can avoid them and offer the smoothest flight possible.
Planes are complex machines often make strange noises and provide unique sensations. These courses help you understand the technology, principles of flight and safety features. Flight Attendants primary role is flight safety but will always seek to reassure nervous passengers. They also have medical training and regular training to deal with emergencies. They can answer any questions you have on board.
    .
Some people take a flying lesson to understand how a plane works and get a feeling of being in the air. The benefit of such a lesson is the knowledge that you can land within minutes should you wish and also are able to talk directly to the pilot.
The course offers various distraction techniques but you can also distract yourself from fears by listening to a podcast or watching a movie, writing or having a meal on board the aircraft.
Exposure to your fear is the best way to confront a phobia. Only exposure to the fear allows a person to come into contact with the feared stimulus and disprove their exaggerated or irrational thoughts. Avoidance, of confronting a fear will only make the fear worse. So, if you want to overcome a fear of flying, the best thing you can do is get on a plane. The easyJet Fearless Flyer Course gives you that opportunity.
This edition of Cockpit Conversations takes you though Mark's own story how he missed an important business trip and decided to do something about his fear of flying. He's the perfect person to help overcome your fears as he has done it himself.
There's details with a link to the course at the end of the video so you can start your journey to be a fearless flyer!
Watching this short video could be your first step to overcome that Fear of Flying and becoming a Fearless Flyer!

Hi very snowy. You're not alone. Those huge airplanes amaze me as well and I know the physics behind it all. I definitely recommend the course. I know people that haven't flown for their whole lives that have been able to overcome their fears on the course. Mark is in the perfect position to help as he overcame his own fear. Hopefully you'll get on the course soon. Good luck. Mike

Here's the thing, i could fly in a small plane as I can sort of see how it can get in the air and stay there, but a great big one???? OMG - I just don't get it. That's like the 11.15 train from Euston taking off. Doesn't add up does it? I need to get on the course...

Amazing course ! Mark and all the team are absolutely incredible… they have cured my fear of flying… I can now fly without having this irrational fear that was controlling my life on a daily basis. It’s a game changer ! You have nothing to loose and everything to gain.. I will forever be thankful to them. (Sarah H- sorry, I’m logged in on my sons account!)

@VerySnowy I totally understand your fear. People can give me statistics, mechanics, physics and everything in between and unfortunately I just can't get over the fear of something happening the one time I am on the plane. I actually did the Flying Without Fear course and it didn't work for me at all, which I was so disappointed about. I am desperate for a cure for my fear.

@@ridzman4447 I’m going on the course later this month...haven’t flown since I was 17 (I’m 34) so it’s been half a lifetime! I’m actually really looking forward to it, it’s something I’ve been promising myself I’ll do for years! Please wish me luck ! ❤

@Louise G. i promise you, you will be fine. I know its easy to say now. But i went alone and i was petrified, i was just in hysterics in my mind and then all of a sudden i literally just calmed all the way down, in an instant it was like magic i swear to god. I used to think the people on the videos saying how great it was were actors but im telling you if there was a camera there i would be 1st in line to of done the video. Granted it was semi lock down, i haven't been on a plane since so i do feel a lil nervous but that day you could have put me on a 37 hour flight and i would have been fine.
