Its per capita use of nitrogen may be high, but most of that food goes outside of the country. The Dutch are highly creative problem, solver, and they are now forced to come up with a solution. This is akin to blaming China for high energy use when China produces so much stuff for us in the rest of the world. Our demand for affordable goods comes at the environmental expense of the producing countries.

I applaud that GreenPeace was successful in the Netherlands having a court action to reduce nitrogen use. However, something to consider is that this tiny nation is the second largest global exporter of food products. That means its higher use of nitrogen could essentially be attributed to its role in feeding those in other countries. Its per capita use of nitrogen may be high, but most of that food goes outside of the country. The Dutch are highly creative problem, solver, and they are now forced to come up with a solution.
This is akin to blaming China for high energy use when China produces so much stuff for us in the rest of the world. Our demand for affordable goods comes at the environmental expense of the producing countries.
Like you said we are a problem solver so there will be a solution. At least i hope but they made a step in the right direction and every problem takes time to come up with an answer. Let time decide....
