I’m a lefty as well. I’ve only been playing for a few years now. I have several guitars all more expensive “higher quality” than this one. But this is my go to day in day out. It’s comfortable sounds great. You also don’t have to be precious with it because it’s affordable. Love your reviews as a lefty!
I dig it!! As much as I want the Gibson SG Special, something about just having one P90 to extract as many tones as you can is appealing to me! I might jump on this one!! Love the demo Shane! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Looks great Shane! I guess the idea with these single pickup SG/Junior style guitars is to just turn up and rip it! Roll to 8 in the rhythm, kick in 10 on the leads! Great vid as always!
Shane, I love your production quality! It's fantastic. On the subject of P90's, they are my favorite pickup sound, bar none, even if a little buzzy with heavier gain. But being that I play a variety of genres, I ended up owning and playing all pickup types. Big shout out on the Torpedo Captor. I love mine. Thanks for the video man, awesome job!
Great review Shane - I've got the LP junior style HB, same issue with the bridge though and I think Tony over at Addicted To Gear found the same on the HB Special. I've been thinking of looking for alternative bridges without busting the bank. Will be interested to see how you get on with the file. On a general note cheers for the great content on the channel, especially for lefties👍
Digging the psychedelic/country/blues track, Shane! I usually don’t like these offset-SG shapes, but this one looks pretty good to me. And the answer to the question “is one P90 enough?” Is always “very yes!”
Another excellent review, Shane! You'd think there would be an aftermarket bridge cover for all the exposed bridges out there for comforts sake. There's a project for the niche market machinists. I can already see an ad for it, with the "Has thi ever happened to you?" And there's a shredder shredding his hand on a bridge, spots of blood...you can guess the rest.
That is a good looking guitar. In some of those shots, it looks like there is a sparkle in that finish. I am seriously impressed with Harley Benton, I own three of them now and I'd buy another if the right one came along.
I sadly sold my Jeff Tweedy SG a year ago, one of these would help ease that pain, that blue is sensational. I'm sure new pots and a compensated bridge would take the guitar up to a real player
First, I love the color of that guitar!! It isn't the guitar's fault I'm stuck in my ways and just can't find my way to buy a single pickup guitar. It's like everything about guitars...We all like what we like. That's why there's Fender, Gibson, PRS, you get the idea, and Strats, and Teles, and Les Paul's...again...you get the idea!!! Thank you for the great review. I'm gonna go check to see if I can find that color in a guitar that might meet my preferences. (It isn't this guitar's fault I am old and set in my ways. You made it sound great!!)
Phenomenal playing, Shane - and the tones a great as well! I don't mind a single pup Guitar, they can be quite versatile. I recently built one from scratch with a single humbucker and it sounds great; the volume and tone pots definitely play a big roll in diversifying the sounds I can coax from such a simple set-up.
Impressive for the prices they charge; for sure. One of my first true guitar heroes is "Elliot Easton" (lefty) and he uses a Pelham Blue SG. Now has a signature CS SG model. Another good review Shane.
Bridge only p90 is a hard one to consider when a p90 in the neck sounds so well rounded… i guess its not trying to be an all rounder so more for the guitarist who wants an attractive lightweight p90 guitar in their arsenal
I've been looking at these for about 4 months, now. I love Pelham blue, the ESP Viper body shape, and P-90's. I have a couple of Harley Bentons ( a TE- 52, and important to this a DC 580) so I'm already sold on this particular variation on cheap chinese guitar. So, you hit on the big stopping point for me- I just can't play the "badass bridge" style. Maybe it says something about my technique, but it's still how I play. So, here's hoping they either do a version of this with the Tune-o-matic & stop bar, or a Mahogany/ Pelham DC 580...
All right 1st🤪🤪🤪Wish HB were more readily available in the USA! I’ve been really enjoying the single pickups and currently making a snakehead tele but putting p-rails in the bridge! As always great playing!!
Hi, you made some review about first Price guitar Harley Benton , and now I ' m curious to know what you think about thier most expendive guitar. I recently buy a HB Aeolus ,around 400€,and I 'm really enjoy it.
For a (sub) 200 € guitar it really looks nice. In the video it looks even a bit better than on the Thomann website. And the sound is pretty decent too. For me the single pickup configuration is really pretty charming. Simplicity can be a bonus.
i have been looking for a single pickup p90 guitar for a while and its between this and the dc junior. this pelham blue in my opinion is so much nicer looking that the dc junior from harley benton
Wow Shane, love the opening track. Great playing! I've have the Harley Benton DC FAT and love the single P90. Don't miss a neck pickup on it at all. As for the bridge and tone pot, I replaced the bridge with a Musiclily wraparound. A much better bridge with no sharp edges. The tone pot is probably a linear taper pot. Replace it with an audio taper and it should be gtg. Excellent video! Cheers
Wow, Harley Benton really seem to pump out some great looking and sounding alternatives to the bigger brand, just wish I could find them in stores in Australia.
They're not pyhsically in stores anywhere but Thomann in Germany. It's their own in-house brand. Mail order returns are a bit of a faff in Europe, but I can't even imagine your pain in Aus.
@@PaulCooksStuff oh ok,dam it ! I don't even use credit cards or buy things online, I only buy guitars in stores, like to feel them in my hands, that way I don't buy dud's.
Dig your channel,Dig your playing more always well produced and honest . I really wish you do some blues lessons, little licks to incorporate into my playing I have enough guitars, pedals and amps. You and Dr Rick always do awesome jams be awesome to gain a tiny bit of your blues knowledge.
I have a HB and really enjoy it but there is something about that pickguard shape and how close it is to the pickup that really sets my OCD in overdrive.
Thanks mate. This will be the last of the lefty HB guitars for a while now. It's a good challenge to record something new to help inspire some different grooves and stuff :).
Strange that one pot is good and the other isn't. Sounds like the tone pot is log instead of reverse log or lin... Also I don't like where the jack is bit apart from that it looks and sounds great.
From Leo: I am ok with one pickup, but prefer it by the neck. All of the vintage archtops, some from the factory and many added later were a single in the neck. Because of hum issues I like to adapt a Filtertron or a PAF in place of the p-90.
I did. The solos at the start were with a pick and I used a mix of pick and fingers for the main demo on the crunch and heavy gain settings. Nothing wrong with not using a pick. It generally sounds better without one.
GREAT video presentation of the HB guitar. That baby is a fine looking guitar Shane. For a single P90 equipped machine she sounded pretty dang good! The versatility in tones is outstanding. Take care down there in Melbourne Shane. It looks as if your government has turned communistic like her in the U.S. That's no good for neither of our countries. Later brother man.
Good demo, but Harley Benton is just imitating other brands at insane lower prices. They are bringing anything original or fresh to guitar, just blatant copying. Nothing to see here, if you want a cheap better copy, get an epiphone. Not interested in any HB guitars.
Gibson and Fender copied everybody, too. Especially back in the early days. Being elitist about guitar is silly these days. CNC machines don't know what country they are in.
Every guitar company pretty much has copied other guitar company. Gibson Fender, (did their own strat) talks about how Gibson used Appleton designs. Epiphones are cheaper Gibsons, Squiers cheaper Fenders. Body designs? Only a certain amount of functional guitar shapes. And most cheaper lines use inferior materials regardless of what brand they are. I don't understand this argument at all.
Yes, every guitar company has copied every other. And Gibson did develop the les paul out of Appleton designs, but he did bring those designs to them to build. Gibson made changes and fair or unfair made it popular. I don't think the SG carries the same ambiguity. I am not saying that HB guitars are not good, but I would prefer a guitar company that put more thought into making guitars than just being a cheap alternative. Yes they can copy it, and yes it will play good, it's a old tried and true design. At least try to put a distinct spin on it. They even copied the color. It's not inspiring. I would rather see HB working on developing their own identity. Many other guitar companies copy V's and other guitars but they have their own spin on it. One note, the copies that Gibson and Fender made of each other, well those lines ultimately died out - whether they were good or not. Epiphone's recent revamp was a direct attempt to match the price points with they likes of HB.

I've got the DC junior in the same colour. Great finish. Just been jamming some trippy stuff with delay and flanger, and soloing with fuzz. Love it

Great video. Has anyone had the chance to compare the DC-60 with Harley Benton's DC-Junior models?
Sounds good, I have a Harley Benton jazz bass and I’ve got to say it is excellent only thing I’ve had to do is change the nut for £150 it’s amazing

Great Review mate ...is the guitar neck heavy?.....
I have one, I put a Gibson P90 on it and it's the sounds as good as a Gibson Jr. I use it for G tuning plus I have 2 more Harley Benton's.
I love how this sounds. Also it looks really classy. Seriously tempting right now.
I really enjoy the look and sound of this guitar. Nice playing and demo, Shane. 😎👍
Very cool guit fiddle! That color is amazing!

Really good review, just what I was looking for.
It not that it doesn't sound good, but you don't get the tonal variations that you get with 2 Pups. I do love the color & the P90 sound. Blues On....💙
Great job as always Shane! Thnx
Just bought this same lefty for my daughter I live in the UK so free delivery :)

Cool guitar and absolutely amazing playing as always!
One cool looking guitar. I'm guessing it wasn't a problem because you didn't mention it, but as it is an SG, I have to ask. Was it neck heavy?
Which do you prefer between this and the plain HB DC Junior that you reviewed as well?
I have a HB and really enjoy it but there is something about that pickguard shape and how close it is to the pickup that really sets my OCD in overdrive.
An excellent review, thanks.
How does this one compare to the DC junior you played in tv yellow?
How does it compare to the similarly priced Artist Grungemaster Shane?
I have a HB DC Junior and it has a push/pull tone knob. Does that one as well? I don't use it much but I am curious.
It sounds good Shane
Not really interested in Harley Benton anymore, but those jam tracks, man, can't get enough of them.
Thanks mate. This will be the last of the lefty HB guitars for a while now. It's a good challenge to record something new to help inspire some different grooves and stuff :).
Spending some time with the CCR, I see.
Good choice.
I would have to move it to the neck, Rarely use a bridge pickup.
I read that wolfetone makes a dog ear humbuckers. might be a cool upgrade for this guitar
11:28 Single P90 pickup guitar? PhilX: "Hell yeah"
Great tone!!
The Ultra Gain was 🔥!! 🥵
Love that guitar
Looks like with a bit of relicing it would be a good Phil X tribute guitar. Oh now that would be interesting.
Strange that one pot is good and the other isn't. Sounds like the tone pot is log instead of reverse log or lin... Also I don't like where the jack is bit apart from that it looks and sounds great.
do you still have the Jeep?
Great tones ...cool
Sounds better left-handed! Why do all Harley Bentons sound at their best on your channel? Cheers !
My vintage vs6 is better. 😏 used 100 pound. But looks good 👍.
I love watching lefty's as a righty, guitar body's are seemingly in the uncanny valley for me
Sweet!!!
Cannot buy them in Mexico. Damn.
why didnt you review the dc jnr fat?
Because I don't have it to review
Looks light as a feather
I don't like the offset horns. I think it looks kind of weird.
I think the jack placement is definitely a con. It would make quick use of the tone control difficult in a live setting.
I know it's a mass-produced SG but it's interesting to see they haven't fixed that flaw...
@@jeromewagschal9485 Maybe they were trying to be innovative...
Once you have a strap on, it gets tucked around that out of the way.
