A week before the update of Apex Legends Season 18, something happen to the SBMM or Skill-based matchmaking of Apex Legends.
We were all excited for revenant reborn and try him out on Season 18
But we noticed that the lobbies where a lot more sweaty than usual
3 stack preds were more common, and after 2 weeks into Season 18 of Apex Legends, we realized that Respawn did something to the Apex Legends SBMM.
Casuals are starting to leave due to the SBMM in Apex
Content creators are not posting as much due to the SBMM problem
and the game feels like it's in the worst state it's ever been
will SBMM in Apex Legends get fixed soon?

Agreed completely!! My KD is less than 1 and I constantly get into pred lobbies or people with tens of thousands of kills or whatever. There’s no such thing as casually enjoying Apex anymore unless you get into customs with friends

Iam totally agree with you. Iam a season 0 player with relative good stats, but my lobbies are unplayable. I have only 5-6 hours per week to enjoy this game, and this update killed it. So i've had enough after 4 years i uninstalled the game, and i think a lot of people will do so

Same. Season 0 player. Completed every battle pass except Season 1. I can't get myself to finish it this season
The one thing that amazing me in terms of personal progression in apex (ie mechanical and mental skills), is the feeling that your are improving but it still feels meaningless. The rate at which I drop high kill games has fallen off substantially over the past few seasons, yet my overall skill has most definitely improved at the same time. The lack of reward/accomplishment could very well be what dulls the desire to play anymore.
As a casual I improved my skill and got my kd up over months of playing and now it feels like it was for nothing cause all I run into, pubs and ranked, is 3 stack preds

Every single game I’m getting dropped by players who have more kills on 1 legend than I have lifetime💀
yeah that's a common thing now, nobody has less than 10k kills in the lobbies
I feel like a no life when I play trios and I got more kills on my character this season than they do total on there characters
Same but i get into lobbies with players having 1k plus wins on one legend. 10x the amount of wins i have on my WHOLE ACCOUNT.
My kd last season was 3.45, it felt rewarding being a day 1 player it feels like my 4 years of work are paying off. This season my kd dropped to 2.18 which is worse than I had in season 6. My adult self is playing worse than I was when I was 14, ok game.

@@lizhang9807 time put in and effort doesn’t equal results. I can put in as much time in as a pro player but I still won’t be as good as a pro player. Today I was watching a small apex streamer, he was higher level than me, played more games than me and can easily assume he put in more time than me and yet still his k/d was less than half of mine.

I think we both know what he means. He’s talking about outcomes. His outcomes are worse because an algorithm is intentionally trying to equalize outcomes.
Why do people improve in games? To have a competitive edge over their opponents. Tighter sbmm tends to remove that edge and the work that went into improving.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for pubs SBMM removal. But it definitely needs to be loosened. As it stands right now, I know below average players that are winning at rates similar to above average players (in pubs).
Equal outcomes is bad lol.

For me and my friends (Most of who haven't breached plat) its Sisyphus simulator where no matter how much better we get the lobbies never get easier. We aren't even that good but every game is masters/pred stacks
On Friday evening I was in lobby waiting with 38 people for like 10 mins on ps5 just to get into a public match… this is ridiculous.
that's insane, my longest one was 13, took like less than 1 min for ranked tho lol
Man, I'm so happy to see others have been experiencing this recent bizarre spike in difficulty because I thought I was going crazy.
I'm a 1k hour player so I'm by no means new. I have decent aim and on good days I can play really well.
But it's just so disheartening when you see that your champions are either master 3-stacks or pub stompers with 24k kills on their legend when my highest legend has 2k kills.
And it's not a one time off. It's match after match after match all while my teammates are level 43's or clearly below even my own skill-level.
I'm a prestige 1 lvl 92. I shouldn't be playing with these people or against them!
This is the first time since I started playing Apex in season 11 that I've been teamed up with the same people twice in a row and have seen games, regardless of time of day, be so incredibly sweaty. Doesn't help that everyone hot drops every match. So your choice is either hot drop with everyone and die within 1 minute (if that) to bad RNG or play the game slow and realise that half the lobby is already gone by 1st round. Sometimes it's even 3 squads left by that time.
Idk what the hell Respawn did but it was so good for a while with matches feeling difficult but fun. Then one day it feels like they decided to just throw a wrench into it.
I just started playing like a couple weeks ago, as a new player it’s impossible to play this game. Honestly I got no clue how to improve with these lobby’s.
Yea that’s whats annoying me the most, If I get tryhards it’s fine, but it’s not for you the new players. Game’s really fun once the mmr is balanced again

Yeah I noticed it a week before season 18 dropped. I kinda just stopped playing apex. I think it’s time for break for me. Season 17 pubs were good for me. I got lots of content from that sbmm system. Don’t see a point in sweating in pubs with sbmm being cranked so high. Especially when coming home after a 12 hour shift.

I've been talking to a few good players and some soar members about how this season is, and they've been experiencing the same things I have. Pubs are way to hard. Saying get good to some of the best players in the game isn't a good response to their hardships. It's not even about getting those high kill and damage games for them anymore. Forbi, one of the soar members that you mentioned in the video, his KD this season is less than his overall right now. My KD is the lowest it's been since season 15, where I was brand new to the game. I find that ranked is easier than pubs, but apex as a whole isn't much fun to play anymore, and it feels like a torcher simulator. As a lv 240, I should never be playing anyone higher than plat, much less the diamond and master stacks that I have to constantly go against. Respawn has to fix apex before they lose a lot of dedicated players, and much of the casual gamers.
yeah I think we're all going thru the same thing forbi is going thru. Personally I think that both ranked and pubs are in the same "sweaty difficulty" but the difference is that in ranked it makes sense to try hard for the win and kills, and on pubs is just cringe to me when i see a team playing like it's ranked. but that's just my opinion
I know plenty of below average players that have a “hate boner” for above average players, so they are enjoying this new matchmaking. It’s equal outcomes and it’s terrible.

My first FPS i played everyday was MW2 on the 360. My fondest gaming memories was on that game. From getting shit on as a level 1 noob to being prestige 7 and decent at the game and this without all the sbmm bs. Protecting new players shouldn’t be a thing

i've hit diamond 4 times and i just came back to apex after 2 or 3 years and this is insane i play with a friend that is gold but we constantly die to masters with 4k 20 kill badges theres no sense in balance just cause i've been diamond they put me against these 3 stack masters and preds crazy

im a s5 7 11 and 17 pred and for some reason pubs is way more tryhard then actual predlobbies last season, normally i have a pubs kd between 6 and 9 this season its dropping down to 2, i cant enjoy this game i cannot have fun, solo queueing against full predstacks holding hands fighting 5 teams as a solo with 2 level 20 random teammates
I was happy of my improvement (got master, learn superglide and tap stafe, get used to oneclip people, get few superjumps and 1/100 mantle jumps x'D)... But it's true always I got killed by 3 stacks, and they're better than me, but it's 3 guys better than me, it's hard to deal with
if it takes 3 guys to kill you that's a compliment imo, that's the way I see it now to not get tilted lol

Even before i found out about this change Ive quit apex im a noob and i get thrown against the most veteran players with thousands of kills the sbmm has always been horrible and ive started in season 1 i could never just enjoy the game because everygame is a sweatfest no matter how much i get stomped on not to mention the ttk its so punishing for noobs despite how long ive played I couldn't make any progress nor learn anything or yet alone just enjoying the game due to be being stomped 24/7 hence why I quit apex permanently its just not fun if proes are suffering from sbmm now then I cant imagine what the noobs and casuals are going through today.
this is actually respawn's fix to the "hot drop" epidemic, caused by a huge population of players are over 2000 hours, and they only hot drop. higher tier pubs was a chit show. you can die off drop, and get 11th place, or by the end of zone 1, there is only 4 teams left. its either this ...or "hot drop or you don;t play the game" i.e back to season 17
I started season 6 on my ps4 recently got on the pc on kbm after 8 seasons of not playing apex on any platform. Im level 40 with a 1.1 kd and even without ranked unlocked when i play pubs i get dumped on by hip to hip pred players which is really annoying. In addition my first game on my smurf that i created today due to this issue i qued into a lobby with LEVEL 500 MASTERS-PRED PLAYERS. IN WHAT WORLD IS THIS SBMM. NOT IN ANY BECAUSE IT ISNT SBMM CUZ I AINT AS GOOD AS THEY ARE SBMM STANDS FOR SKILL BASED MATCH MAKING. WE AINT AT THE SAME LEVEL BRO.
The fuck? If I used a smurf and u have 0 Kd, how in fucks name are the lobbies masters 3 stacks with Kd well over 1 Kd? I'm over 1 Kd and pretty good imo, but this season to have fun and actually get kills and the adrenaline of fighting and not just getting clapped by a 3 stack simultaneously r99 tap strafe, pk stomping you, I've had to fail my ranked initiation matches just to get manageable lobbies. Fucking ranked feels more casual than pubs, tf?

@@LegenDz_Evil U can't do that. I tried many times to lower my KD... it just doesn't work. The game works only by your lifetime KD, reverse boosting isn't a thing anymore.

**No ego here. I hit diamond twice in 12 and 16 on PC and I wasnt even a ranked grinder, I just enjoyed playing the game and would play ranked if I wasnt vibin with the pub map rotation or if my friends wanted to play. I love pubs because my mechanics were getting better and better and I was learning how to play against people on my own and I was just constantly improving.
S18 hits and I just feel like my progress has been halted. It wasnt a gradually increase in my games it was an instant jump to pred lobbies. I enjoy a challenge I was not use to being ran at by a triple stack controller team who played the game wayyyy more than I did, I played the game a ot but these guys definitely go on 6-10 hr juicers.
I hate to use that example cz I find the debate annoying at this point but its how I felt. And while yes me playing the game after still being tired from my day and commute at work I did get alot better at the game and understand how to play against people in those lobbies but after all that I just feel burnt out and dont wanna play the game anymore.
Id always play apex even way after I maxed out the battlepass but this season i've maxed out the battle pass and im just putting the game down for awhile. might just get on and spam mixtapes if they dont just change pubs back.
Yes I've noticed very long queue times for pubs, and every enemy has pefcect movement, perfect aim, perfect cover, and a minimum of 10k kills and they're 3 stacking when I'm just trying to solo queue. It's either rat the whole game for the win, or push then get beamed and chased down by 3 stacks. How come every enemy player is so good all the sudden? Probably because pub match queue times are 30 minutes because it will only put you in the ALGS pub lobby(where every player has a minimum of 10k kills, but your teamates are somehow still trash cans), not a normal match
I play with my friends most of the time but bc they have a kd less then 1 and I have one above 1.5, it’s save to day that the lobby’s we get into aren’t fair in any way shape or form. They on there own play in gold lobby’s and with me, we play against 10000+ kill predators with strike pack aim. Last season may have bin dry, but damn was it better to play

Every season up until now has felt okay, there were some ups and downs but I always made it to Plat 1 or Diamond 4. Now in this new season I started back in silver 2 but it's just master lobbies back to back. I can't even climb out of silver 2. I know I'm not amazing but it's frustrating being put against these pred/masters. Why even split the seasons and reset ranks if MMR dictates everything??
I got into game with 3 stack preds, and the bloodhound was on ps4 176k kills, 41 million damage. My lifetime total kills is 25k, KD 1.97. Like wtf how
I’m at a loss of what to do. For the first season ever, my KD is BELOW a 1. The game is unplayable, but I suppose you can’t escape SBMM at all anymore. Gotta go back to single players games I guess.

I was hoping to enjoy this game while learning it but i lose matches so fast to people with thousands of hours put up against me with 9.....
Apparently im supposed to win atleast once every gazilion of matches but yet here i am still havent won anything....

bro, as someone who finally has a good pc, I first tried to play apex two months ago, each game only lasted 2 minutes, it doesn't feel fun and I don't feel like it's getting better since I can't do anything at all, only two weeks since When I started playing I decided to uninstall it because it wasn't worth the frustration.
i made a new account on a different console and the FIRST game i played on it was against a pred (this was a couple months ago and so far i've only got to lvl 28 after months cause i just cant get back into the game cause of people in lvl 20 lobbys)
I play pubs and all I've seen for a month dropping with my noob teammates are pred trails. THIS IS AWFUL MATCHMAKING.
more recently I frequently encounter gibby that just afk or stand in one spot and nothing less, and I know that the are not "afk" as they throw down their bubble every know and then but they just want to stand around in one spot and die to ring lime wtf are these guy's problems

They need to use the OVERWATCH method. If you stack with too many high skilled friends then queue times are unplayable. Force the best players to Solo or Duo in pubs so they dont break the matchmaker.
I'm a level 50 with a 0.12 KD and I was getting pred stack after pred stack and there was no end. What the fuck is EA doing. "We want to make the game more fun for casual players" my ass EA and Respawn. I can't get a single kill or assist. About 50 dmg average. I can't deal with this game.

For pubs:
Above average players should have above average outcomes (win rates, stats, etc).
Average players should have average outcomes.
Below average players should have below average outcomes (until they improve).
This should not be controversial. If you think players of all skill should have the same outcomes and results, then you support some sort of weird gaming socialism.

This is true,my season kd is .7 my overall kd is .4 and im matching with predators constantly,getting the .4 kd up feels impossible 😱
As a high skill player with consistent 4-5 k/d seasons. This shit is so bad. It’s unplayable. It’s not fun. I noticed the change almost immediately the season started. I know the change was made a week prior by I didn’t play the last 2 weeks of S17. After 3-4 hours of S18 it was clear to me the sbmm was toned to 110% and the game was ruined. It feels like 2019 CoD all over again. My favorite game I’m about to quit if they don’t fix it soon
Players has to realize is that higher your kd is the harder your matches will become, that goes to most future multiplayer games,,if you want high kd stats then everyone else, then you gonna get punished for that, plain and simple,,,,,thats the new norm of future gaming for now on,, if you want easier games,, then just lower your kd a bit, then boom, your have a good game and when your kd gets high again then lower it again, then repeat the cycle,,, thats what i do,, and i been enjoying multiplayer games that way ever Sinse

Yo but if the casuals get into the same lobby as the preds then thats a sign that the sbmm is not working right? There are more normal players than pros - so there should be easier lobbies to fill for the normals. And sweat lobbies for the sweats.
Or maybe it works and they mix in more sweats with the casuals now - and they kill the casuals fast leading to shivs experience. Then theres 3 pred stack teams in the endgame handholding for the W.

I finally went ahead and uninstalled the game, the matchmaking is the worst it has ever been since launch this season.

Its even in mixtape as well now like last night 6 people had 4k damage badges and 20 kill badges the lifeline on the other team had 78k and 3 stacking and welp me 10k kills with those badges the only one on my team sweaty and lost so quickly lol like wtf just play rank if you 3 stacking
Yea I wanted to play some control with some homies to warm up for ranked and everyone was LOCKED TF IN. It's ridiculous, Cat, Caustic, Rampart, Wattson teams just holding it down running away the moment they get shot for 40 damage. insane

It’s not just content creators crying… it’s everyone. Non content creators just don’t have a platform for people to see our complaints.
As bad as the trios games that you showed are, Duos is somehow even worse lol. Not only are you fighting 4K/20K/pred/masters stacks (I had a 75,000 kill Wattson on my team for a game lmao) but on drops with multiple teams you have these nerds who just rat and will absolutely not fight until a third party opportunity presents itself. And it's even worse because there's more total teams that can potentially do this.

Played since Day 1 then took a break and played warzone came back and did ok last season enjoyed the game got rid of warzone and decided to put my time back into apex, KD started to improve last season just about getting over 1KD and now this season its pred 3 stacks most games in pubs if not theyre masters, then in ranked its not as bad but you just have toxic team mates that dont talk until theyre downed calling you for not pushing a team when you havent even got a gun. At this point i am seriously considering redownloading warzone and I feel dirty just saying that
Hidden MMR is so stupid. If I am in Silver, I should play in Silver lobbies. Its really not that hard to figure out. I shouldnt be silver but the hidden mmr say im a pred so i get put in pred lobbies. Thats absurd.

I quit apex in season 16 its not fun anymore i started season 0 its terrible now and so many other games are better
literally stopped uploading videos and uninsalled the game,why bother even having a no fill option ,its impossible to 1v3 3 stack after 3 stack,its not a skill issue,they've closed the skill gap so much it feels like winning is down to luck at this point,3rd party after 3rd party with no room to shield swap ,its destroying the mechanics and flow of the game that made apex stand out,no movement god or pro player is gonna stand out anymore,the content thats fun to watch is impossible to get,respawn really dropped the ball on this one

Bro I get off I don’t play more then 3/4 games. The three stack isn’t the problem the match making system putting you with bots is. There’s no reason you should be better then your teammates every game that’s weird nor should there be a certain amount of losses before you get a average game.I won’t play that sweaty shit player base is already suffering right now

This right here is what the avg casuals had to deal with before this change was made, and I guess plus know from personal experience that many of these people quit for this reason, the matchmaking now is more balanced and is fun for people who just want to play without worrying that a pred stack or a pub grinder runs down the lobby, but this also means that these people have to face each other now which as i can see they don’t like. From a casual point of view this season is amazing when it comes to matchmaking, I get people who probably also have around a 1-2 K/D which is also my avg and I am having fun, matches are challenging but not impossible to win like before when there was preds and people with 10k plus kills on a single legend in every single one of my lobbys even tho My highest rank was d4 and i only got there 4 times out of my 10 seasons of playing this game

ive never understood why people complain about "3 stacking'' in a team based game you legit get more exp for doing so.. these lobbies people are experiencing now are what the sydney servers in Australia have always been.. we go to NA/Singapore servers to chill out 😀
