Been playing 40K for over a year now, and got my friend who got me into 40K but who had not played yet to go to our local GW, asked to borrow their Boarding Actions book and play using the terrain they set up and had a lot of fun! Game ended in a tie of 40 VP each haha, my friend got to play his first ever game and had so much fun he said he’s 100% gonna buy the terrain box for it. It’s a lot of fun and can’t wait to play more. Also I played a Terminator heavy Death Guard list while he took in Sisters… Melta sisters are scary! My Deathshroud had 0 chance hahaha
Instead of boarding patrol as it is now, why hasn't GW released a Hero Quest styled game using the boarding patrol board set. Imagine being able to pick ANY band of characters of your chosen army taking them through the boarding patrol map, opening doors and rolling dice to see what enemies appear and must be defeated. Being able to play solo or upto 4 at home would bring so many new players to the game (especially being able to play a 40k game solo 😂)
That sounds awesome. I live out in the boonies and my nearest game store is almost an hour drive away, so having a single player option for 40k would be nice to screw around and get a feel for my armies without the headache of trying to find an opponent and set up a game.
@@theshamurai32 I work alternating shift patterns and have kids so trying to regularly attend any local gaming group is almost impossible! @crowboy9818 Exactly, same. No kids, but I'm a welder in my weekdays and a soldier in the Army Reserves, so I don't often have the schedule or energy to hit up the LGS more than once a month or two when I get a completely free weekend. As much as I enjoy it, finding 3-4 free hours to play not counting set up and travel time is a feat in and of itself before having to worry about finding an opponent who's schedule matches up and I enjoy playing against. At least the models look good in my case, right? Lol
@@theshamurai32 I feel you brother. I think we should pitch this idea to James workshop and thank you for protecting us imperial citizens. May the emperor always guide your hands
Here's a handful of other issues I've noticed on a first readthrough, most of these can be fixed pretty easily if GW bothers to try. They claimed they'll update the online mustering rules with each codex so there's a chance. 1. Company Heroes will be instantly destroyed because you can't attack characters in boarding actions. They're listed as 5 models so it feels like some special rule for attaching to a captain was thought of but didn't get printed. 2. Kyvaan Shrike is usable in boarding strike but doesn't lose Echo of the Ravenspire like he does in Pilum Strike Team. This is because they forgot to exclude phobos characters(despite remembering to exclude terminator characters). Ironically he can only be around other flying units when used in boarding strike. 3. Neurogaunts are listed as a 10 model unit despite the minimum being 11. These complaints are based mostly on what units were allowed with the original mustering rules at the start of 10th edition. 1. Prince Yriel, corsairs, and Ynnari aren't playable. Although I bet Prince Yriel is going to legends soon. 2. Krootox Rampagers, and Farsight aren't playable. Feels like they should have been included. 3. Tyrant Guard, Venomthropes, and Zoanthropes aren't playable. Combined with genestealers being moved to their detachment Tyranids lost a lot of variety. 4. Space marine scouts aren't playable. Probably should have been included in the phobos detachment.
It’s almost like they repacked all the arks of omens crap into a single book, and then resold it without changing much at all-that’s why it’s still based in 9th edition. Idk about you guys, but GeeDub is saving me money every day.
Ah yes, this lie again. I love how they supposedly got a bunch of tourny players to test 8th for ages before release. And during that time, none of these professional min/maxers played obnoxious soup, all flyers, or CP farmed? Ok then.
I don't think GW has ever released a book with rules in them without errors. Some of their Black Library books have errors in them come to think of it.
Glad I saw your video, I was about to buy the book. It is extremely frustrating to see GW release a fun game concept (boarding action) but not caring about it at all. It also put into question GW "play testing", if they think this was relentlessly tested, just imagine the amount of test the rest of their content has!
@@christopheraaron1255 I've been eyeing some sets from Death Ray Designs for quite a while now. Their walls seem just the right amount of detailed for me.
The Boarding Patrol book states that the detachments should be used in conjunction with the Mustering Boarding Patrol Forces document on the Warhammer Community Downloads page. They don't replace them. So, you may use those lists to construct your patrol if you desire. The detachments merely provide themed forces as well as bespoke enhancements and stratagems unique to that detachment.
I had the luck to acquire two sets of just the terrain from the boarding actions set Gallowdark, Votan vs Beastmen (They're Goats! In Spaaaace!). I must say I've seen more modular and cheaper alternatives - you can make those walls from anything, paper, cardboard, xps, lego blocks, you can buy 3d printed ones etc. However, I also must say that the GW version really does look cool and swinging the tiny hatches is very satisfying. Those are very good hatches. I'm not saying: go and buy the terrain box. I'm saying: maybe search your second-hand trade-hub of choice once in a while - you never know what you might get on the cheap.

Nice gloves! I wish they'd put more effort into boarding actions as it's very fun with loads of potential. I suppose it's up to us to make house rules to see that potential fulfilled. I am fine with that. Thanks for the video VC
As a framework for a couple of friends to play, it works. As long as you can talk through some of the issues. I don't think it will work well at a club if you just wanted a casual game of boarding actions.
I think you are missing the point. This isn't a tournament book,so it isn't supposed to be balanced! Some things are just Better in this setting than others. Play tested doesn't necessarily mean competitively play tested. I can play hundreds of games with my pal and have fun and find the game balanced, and I could easily miss dozens of flaws that more competitive players would instantaneously find. But in the end what is the game designed for? Having fun with not perfectly balanced rules or playing a competitive strategy game? I still think GW make games to sell miniatures that do epic sh*t on a battlefield, they're not intended to be balanced games.

"My RUclips channel is listing errors that Games Workshop has made. I have had to expand and hire help."
GW never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Just because it was relentlessly play tested doesn't mean they did anything with the data.
What did they say at 10th launch? Combat Patrol is the most-playtested game yet? I'll just get my popcorn.
I think "Make it quick, and shit it out quicker" is the GW company motto. They are definitely taking cues from the AAA gaming market.
After 30+ years their rule writing on this game should be a fucking science by now. Instead they scribble away like drunkards in the night.😅
