One video I watched said not to use an aftermarket belt but only use the brown MTD belt. And I've noticed when trying to order a belt there are variations anywhere from 87+ inches to 90+ inches. Seems like that should make a difference. I've gone to the Craftsman parts page and they all show a long belt. Not sure if it makes any difference.
If you have a MTD product. Do not use aftermarket belts for the transmission drive belts or you will have issues most of the time. I learned that the hard way. This mower that you are watching is made by AYP/Husqvarna.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I decided to order three belts, all different lengths but two were nearly the same. The third belt is the 87 inch belt which one of the manuals shows as the proper belt. I guess I'll try the shorter one first and maybe try to compare it to what's on the mower, although it is most likely stretched out and won't give a true comparison.
Hi, I just purchased a Tecumseh ride on. It has a Spicer transmission and Tecumseh 13HP engine. On the rear fender it says 13/98. I haven't owned a ride on before and purchased it as a ride on for our community garden. I have just ordered a new carb but it didn't have a drive belt on it when I got it and I am finding it difficult to be able to find any info online. It does look very similar to this one underside but has no headlights and a large "Colt Power" sticker on one side of the plastic hood. Does anyone have a link to a manual online or know much about these?
My belt was replaced on an older LT 2000 last month. But now the tension is so tight that the brake doesn't stop it. When I'm in foward, the only way to stop is to shift to neutral or reverse. Is there a way to adjust the tension so it's not so sight?
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Shoot. It was very difficult to replace the belt. I couldn't get to it so I had to pay someone to do it. Can't afford to swap it out. Maybe it will eventually get a little looser.
Awesome brother, thank you so much!!! I have the same mower that I just got used and it's smelling like burning rubber - the main pulley is really hot after running it for a few minutes. Further investigating right now...
I have the same mower. I replaced the belt but still having some problem with it not pulling correctly. Sometimes, reverse does not engage unless I put it in forward first. Also, it seems to drive slow if I don’t push the shifting lever forward by hand. Acted similar before I changed the belt. Hoping I did not get the wrong belt from the parts house and it have a bad transmission.
Your LT2000 is completely different from mine.
Great video! You should really post the link (through your amazon store) to the belt in the description. I would have purchased it.
I've been there did that on my craftsman ys mower and the poulan XT mower only thing is that I had to do it while laying on the concrete floor
Enjoy all your videos. Very informative. Keep ‘em coming.
Thanks, will do!

Nice one short and to the point.
Ty!

I had this same problem with mine. After I mowed once it worked fine the next time. Almost like it needed to stretch just slightly.
You just describe a perfect example of, the belt is too short. There are no adjustments.

I'm having the same problem. Apparently the right wheels needs to be removed and 2 bolts loosened to tap the break loose. 🤞
Thanks for doing this video, before I decide if my craftsman is shot I’ll be taking a look at the belt. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Thank you for watching and supporting my channel! I hope you get your machine back up and running!
Great show, how is mower standing up on its own. 😮😮
