He had a story about his uncle in an Apple plant that made applesauce and cleaned apples. I came across a book that was older and there was the exact same story (word for word). I struggled with what to do about it because our teacher told us that she would flunk whoever plagiarized from someone else’s writing. I brought her the book and she asked if she could take it home. I said of course you can take it home and find whatever you need. She had a stern talk to the student and his grade was reduced by copying from other writers.

I don't know that at any point they've both been ascendant at the same time as they are now but the country has always course corrected when one side or the other has gone too far.
