I thought it was rare & @ the same time nice to hear Geoff offer his humorous remarks & shared his genuine thoughts! I like to see interviews with these two powerhouses....they are so cute & appear to be quite close! I'm sure their chemistry had so much to do with their overall success ~ Thanks for this! Peace
I agree.....that and Mindcrime. I saw them on The Warning tour before this Rage came out and was an instant fan. A lot of people didn't know what to think about RFO. Just as Geoff states here, it may take some time to take it all in. I believe that's why it has stood the test of time. I saw them open for AC/DC for this one. Awesome tour.
I believe history to now show Tate was(is) the most talented voice to ever claim the genre 'Metal." Matching up his live performances along side the studio cuts indicates a level of skill, dedication, and pure raw ability, unmatched by his peers. Period. To include Dickinson, Halford, and Dio. In some ways, Tate sold himself short, due to the lack of a more professional representation...
Funny thing is, Rage was inspired by vampire novels the band reading. The entire album lyrics reflect it. They were just into it. Now vampires are the big craze. Ahead of their time. lol

My favorite QR song.(Q of the R) Between Geoff's powerhouse vocals,the amazing dueling guitars of Wilton/DeGarmo all topped off the the thundering drums of SRock... BOOM 🤯 It's been over 30 years and it still rocks. 🤘😎
I read an interview stating the band was really into vampire novels during this time. It kind of explains and gives definition to the Rage for Order direction. Unlike anything during that time and change is part of this bands nature.
Same here. I bought Promised Land the day it came out. When I bought, "Here in the Now Frontier" I was so disappointed that I gave it to one of my friends.
I don't get this, personally. I think looking at it from a more general rock perspective, HitNF was the better album, and it's not like Promised land was very metal. God, I think I only added two songs from it to my favorites on Spotify. But like I said, I can appreciate power pop and general rock elements, how close it is to being metal seems like a poor measuring stick for quality once a band stops being metal.

Following Queensryche since 88' and never tire watching old interviews with the 2 that made Queensryche. When Chris left so did their great music. Truth be told without Chris and moreover when Geoff got stabbed in the back in 2012 from the thoroughly lesser and full of jealousy bandmates Michael, Eddie, and Scott finished off any remaining remnant of what was. The current QR lineup is a sick distorted version of NOTHINGNESS. RIP 1982 - 2012
I would kill for DeGarmo to reunite with Tate now that he's gotten a lot of his range back. The other guys have the occasional good song but they just don't have the depth of DeGarmo and Tate. And furthermore, I think HitNF was actually an excellent rock album, just not metal. Taken for what it is instead of what we wish it was, it's far better than anything that came after it.
I liked the part when Chris talked about Seattle not having a big fashion selection, when a year or two later Seattle became a fashion powerhouse (right or wrong).
Seattle thrift stores, you mean. 'Grunge' was literally just guys wearing thrift cloths and cheap flannels and sneakers from whatever box store had a good enough sale. It became fashionable by accident when it was just functional.

It's been a really really long time since QR has wrote really good songs from a-z(full album)??? My opinion there last was Promised Land.... Since then Degarmo leaves after hear in the now frontier which I personally didn't care 4 2 much and from there the great writing disappears?
I thought the writing on HitNF was mostly solid except for one song I found cheesy. It just wasn't metal is all. Promised Land had a couple good songs, but not enough to make it a good album IMO and it wasn't really a metal album ether. The post-Tate stuff... it's like they are trying to return to the old Queensryche formula but without the depth of understanding... They'll seem like they are onto something thematically but then it falls flat and rings hollow. Can't say I'm surprised after seeing the new guy's Twitter. Revolution is just a platitude.
This was my absolute fav band for a long time in the late 80s/early 90s. But "Silent Lucidity" ruined their career, even as it broke them to the general public. Same dealyo with "Extreme"! Many great bands were destroyed by the power ballad blessing/curse of that era. I've always wondered where they would have steered (perhaps more progressive) had it not been for the decision to make "Empire", a decidedly pop-rock album which I liked at the time but has NOT stood the test of time like their earlier METAL did. "Rage for Order", which is promoted in this interview, is AMAZING! If you don't know it, check it out! It's NOT typical 80s hair metal by any stretch!
Honestly, even HitNF was a good rock album, but chasing a trend was a mistake, for sure. It's such a shame it led to infighting and DeGarmo washing his hands of it. There was no reason not to just agree shit happens and correct course. Was their label interfering or something? Because even after that, they weren't putting out the sorts of metal albums they used to at all. They only got worse, IMO.

I guess I really loved them and was sad that De Garmo left, and now Jeff’s on tour with his own band doing those songs. I think they were victims of the era, honestly. I remember how it was then (I was 21 in ’90, and worked at a record store). Grunge absolutely DESTROYED Metal and HR in every concievable way, so if they had kept doing the Proggy “Operation: Mindcrime” stuff, they would have faded into obscurity. Ironically, the only reason they (OR “Extreme”, ftm!) had any lasting staying power, culturally, was down to their top 40 hit. Metal became "passe" for a long time during the 90s. For real! It just went back underground and got heavier. It’s weird to think about what could have been had the music business presented a different landscape for good Metal to thrive, like today… Where anything goes and that’s cool!🤘

Rage really wasn't as metal as everyone thinks. There are more ballads on that album then any other. We didn't like it when it first came out and then it just grew into something genius. But not really metal.
