With dither sounded overbearing on loudest volume on my android and without dither it sounded clean on max volume on my android. Dither helps me sometimes when the songs sound flat but somtimes its best without. This is the best mastering channel; Ive learned so many techniques to help old mixes that I cant re record. Thank you so much for your Knowledge💯
Thanks for watching! I couldn't hear much for a difference with the dithering but thanks for sharing your thoughts! Glad you're enjoying the channel! SageAudio.com
I totally agree on the avoid unnecessary dithering. Many people don't even know what it is but assume it's necessary. Great video! Though I really don't think the subtle gate technique would work out. I really can't hear it even after listening very carefully and the plugin isn't doing anything too in terms of reduction. I feel like a good mindset is: Anything you can't control, it's best to remove it if you want to make your sound "cleaner" but if you like the way it sounds, let it be! Example: Cutting below 20,25 or 30hz.
Thanks for watching this one! The gate one was my least favorite to be honest haha. It could work well to reduce noise at the end of a track, but didn't really work since this demo wasn't dynamic enough. Thanks for watching! SageAudio.com
For "Use Low-Latency Linear Phase Processing", methinks that can ALSO be done in Izotope's Neutron 2/3 Gate and Compressor Zero Latency (of course there's engineering behind it) button feature for the high-end frequencies up to 20K. Don't underestimate Leapwing Audio's DynOne3, which has the hardware sounding Ultra + Master Filters upgrade from v1 which give it that clarity sheen without the distortion nor attenuation. Softube Harmonics x Softube Tape x DynOne3 x SurferEQ on Surf "gullfoss" mode as I like to call it and you get Hardware results. To make it perfect, I'd use Unisum + Weiss DS1-MK3 before on that mastering chain. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS WITH ANY HOST SYSTEM LESS THAN 64 GB PHYSICAL RAM x FAST CPU CHIP!!!!! LOLOLOL 😝 😜 🤪
Thank you for another great video. Just quick question. At the beginning you're saying to achieve clear masters is best way to turn off the noise emulation on some plugins. But some plugins like LA2A or Pultec EQ get their unique sound thanks to that 50/60Hz analogue noise emulation. What is your opinion on this one? Thanks you
Thanks for watching Lucas! I'd personally turn those noise generators off since I find their sound comes more from their unique curves or compression types than the noise. But if you enjoy this character then might as well keep it in! SageAudio.com
Great video! Thank you. Out of curiosity, how does lowering the sides compare to using a mono plugin like 'BOZ Mongoose' to convert to mono below a certain point in the frequency spectrum? I would imagine the outcome would be a bit different.
Hey Sage, thanks for the video. Quick question: I’ve tried to upsample my mixes in logic, but when I import them Logic asks me to match file’s sample rate to project’s. That process always introduces weird artifacts in the files. Tried both from 44.1 to 88.2 and from 48 to 92. Maybe you can explain how you upsample your mixes?
Hello guys ! I watch your videos time to times and I have a question. Of course that a quick disclaimer is: if it sounds good, it is GOOD. But recently I used two different tapes for one master and a NLSbuss from Waves and it sounded amazing. But maybe there could be some mini details I could've miss. So, what's your opinion on using 2 or more tapes in ONE master?
Hey Mauro! You can use 2 taper types if it sounds good - no issue there unless it's overprocessing somehow! I guess just use your ear like you said! SageAudio.com
Dither is only a final process that adds a nearly inaudible noise to deal with some the of the digital realm as you only get so much dynamic range (bit depth [1s and 0s]) to play with . You typically only want to dither once: at the very end. If you do send it to a mastering engineer typically you would not send a dithered file. (If you want to learn more about this look at what jitter and dither is in photography or video to get an idea of how it can be applied to audio) There is a lot of debate on which algorithms to use (if any), but use what you have as it is a minimal difference between them compared to the level of your master. I am by no means an expert but I hope you do some research and that this info helps you. If I am wrong about anything please correct me.
I love your videos. However, as a beginner in audio engineering, I would have prefered to switch ON and OFF duting the same audio to better notice the difference instead of playing it 2 times

a gate is a nice idea, i think i would automate the volume though, i think it might be easier/sure fire to dial in perfectly
That's a good idea too! Thanks for watching!

Any good way to utilize Saturn for master chain saturation? You always use that dynamic tube preset
The Tube is a good start for mastering! Then change the distortion type to subtle tube.

I usually set the session's sampling rate first, then import the track and convert it when prompted by the DAW!

GATE is very unexpected and I have second thoughts for that. Of course I am nowhere pro like you. Amazing information as always.
Thanks for watching Keroser! Yeah I probably wouldn't do that too often - but it's an option!

Hi!
Are you upsampling audio before mastering if you receive it in lower quality?
Thanks for video and info presented!
For these videos yes but when we're mastering we use hardware so no!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks. When do you talk about automatization at Mastering??
I like to automate saturation! Sometimes it works well for increasing the limiter's gain too!

Do I still need to cut the low ends if I already made my kick and bass mono in the mix stage??
It couldn't hurt! Something may have spread to the side lows at some point, be it reverb or something else.

Thank you for sharing this information with us...what are your thoughts on gulfuss eq for mix bus or mastering?
I haven't tried it yet but it looks promising!

Should i make a low cut at 20hz if i dont have any frequency out there ?
Humans can't hear any thing below 20hz and above 20khz. So it won't make a huge difference to your ears but it definitely gives headroom.
We cannot hear below 20hz, I think its necessary to cut that freq.
@@aadilmusic__ we can hear above 20khz. but what we cannot hear is above 22.5khz.

It can! Thanks for watching!

is this good or bad?
I would avoid it! Thanks for watching!
