Víkingur Ólafsson: A portrait of the Icelandic pianist

- Víkingur Ólafsson has been called the new superstar of classical piano by the British Daily Telegraph, and even “Iceland’s Glenn Gould” by the New York Times. With his idiosyncratic interpretations of the classical piano repertoire, Víkingur, who was born in Iceland in 1984, not only delights dyed-in-the-wood classical music fans but also captivates a wider audience. And he stands out with the quiet tones more than anything else. His new album “From Afar” is almost meditative and reminds the listener of the magnificent expanses of the Icelandic landscape.
This portrait is a snapshot in the career of the extraordinary pianist. Through interviews and musical excerpts, it tells us how Víkingur interprets the works of well-known composers in new ways, giving each piece an almost “Icelandic” tone. This creates the impression that we are on a journey through Iceland ourselves.

Víkingur has breathed new life into J S Bach's Goldberg Variations. His truly exceptional recording is one I highly recommend! 🎵
To me Víkingur Ólafsson is the pianist I can take his albums to a desert 🐪 island 🏝️ and live in peace ☮️

Best from Berlin!
Mr. Vikingur, i like so much, how you play Bach. Thank you for sharing this with a world.:) And thank you for your Mama:). I am pianist too, but i never touch piano with so deep sensibility!❤ My best pianoworks from Bach are prelude b-moll und c-moll from Volthempierierte Klavier, but now I am listining daily yours Bach's sonata BMV855a. Lots of good from Poland.
P.S. Your firstname is incredible, i love thos language! I am happy, that Tolkien make this so famed, and Arlandur Indridasson, i read all of his books.:)
Sorry for my english;).

Can't wait to hear the whole programme. Great!!! Makes me think of Pablo Casals the superb cellist who played Bach unaccompanied cello music everymorning. Huge respect, ViKINGer
If we want to make conversation through crystal sounds ( with soul) we must tolk true. For me true is the most importent because when I make conversation with people of whole world my soul makes conversations..I LOVE TO MAKE COVERSATION THROUGH THE ART WITH PEOPLE OF WHOLE WORLD, BECAUSE OUR SOULS TOLK.I hope you understend me.
You play piano more than beautifully and you play compositions by Bach very soft ..AMAZING!

💯
He looks so much better in his post punk period.
할렐루야~
I can only play slowly but I seem to discover in the Art of Fugue things that I don’t find in the performances of those who play correctly.
Have you changed your recording label???
They have typecast him to play baroque... and I suppose he has more records from piano eras...
My English is very bad...sorry.
greetings
Hann les aldrei neina nótur .
골드베르크 변주곡 뒷부분에서 너무 뭉개지고 무너지던데 ㅎ
Thank you for your comment. If possible, please comment in English next time so that more people can follow the discussion. All the best!
😅
born in the isolation of iceland? mf, the population of iceland is 370k+ people. on average, 1 person will have 80,000 interactions with other human beings during their entire life-span. there's no "isolation" here. if you were born on an uninhabited island then yes, you're born in isolation.
i cringed so hard seeing that text pop up, like bro you're playing an instrument, not creating a universe where you're the main character with some in-depth story 🤡
A horrible vanity puff piece. Next.
He didn’t produce it, give him a break.
"Thirddimensionality" - what a wonderful expression!
I have got all Vikingur's DG albums. He is different from other pianists....
