    I love the "I'm not here to win workouts, I'm here to get fit!" quote something I will defo use, when doing my sessions. I did Manchester in 2022 and doing London next month good luck Matt your smash it! 💪

    Do you use a wind muffler Matt? I find they make a big difference for my GoPro in windy conditions…..great session!

    I just love Kelly's smugness on the bike here and absolutely deserved! I can't believe you forgot breakfast!!!!!!!!!

    Amazing you can convince Kelly to come and cycle around with you! Although I confused why you weren’t giving her your coat rather than lobbing it in a bush?! I would be too stressed it would get pinched!

    Great video. I noticed just a littel error: at 17:40 the avg pace 5.40/MI is 3.37/Km, no 3.27/Km :-)

      @TheWelshRunner  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for pointing that out. That’s really annoying. I hate little typos like that. Hopefully no one gets confused as the whole run definitely wasn’t 3:27/km average.

    I see you don’t take your lactate on these marathon sessions. What would you say your lactate is/should be on those marathon efforts?
    Thanks again for the great content

    Funny you paradigm is to eat even more carbs not to bonk while an equally good strategy would be to train while not so carb dependent to boost your fatburning capability.

    • @TheWelshRunner
      @TheWelshRunner  7 месяцев назад

      It’s not as simple as that in my experience. I’ve tried both strategies. I used to never fuel marathon runs and then take gels on race day. The first time I really focused on a rigorous carb strategy and trained the gut to take more on in training I took 5 minutes off my marathon time and ran 2:24. Carbs are a more efficient fuel source. There’s a reason the Sub 2 hour project focused heavily on getting the carbs onboard regularly and at a high level per hour. You can train yourself to be a good fat burner but then take fuel in a marathon and your fat burning levels can drop and your body burns more carbs again. I think it’s really important to try different things and monitor how it impacts actual performance. You can then iterate and see what works best.

      @@TheWelshRunner yeah carbs are definitely the fuel of choice on race day, no debate there.
      Not/never fuelling at all on long runs might be another extreme but a combination would be ideal. The better your body can burn fat the less carbs you need, and I do not say this in the context of eating less during races, but less chance of bonking because you simply don't run out of stores.
      But this is just my vision on how to use all energy systems to compliment each other. I'm a fatburner by nature and realise we are all different.
      You mention the breaking 2 project, did you ever thought on using HVMN ketones?it's a bit of a secret they also used that during that project. This brand ketones operates independently of fat and carbs energy systems and your brain feels great after a shot, and it helps recovering better. Nearly all Tour the France teams use this for the same reason.

    What is that body of water? More generally I wish all RUclips runners would say where they’re running, unless it’s some secret location.

      I mean he said he was at Beachley 3 times in the first couple of minutes. Would you prefer if he pointed out each landmark along the way whilst also running at 5:30/mile? ...it's the river Severn
