  • The Kauri Museum in Matakohe is a stunning example of local enthusiasm, talent and a unique way of telling the story of the Kauri Tree but that of the individuals and history of that time.
This off the beaten track, the Kauri Museum is not to be missed when heading north of Auckland.
The Matakohe museum is situated a few km's south of the Northland forest, the Waipoua Forest which is the home to Tane Mahuta, known as the Lord of the Kauri Forest.

New Zealand is chock full of great little museums. Would love to come over and do another few weeks of road tripping once this COVID is gone.
