I got this shoe for my runs on asphalt, gravel paths and park like green areas, I think its perfect for that. For rougher trails and the mountains I got the Asics Trabuco Max, which is similar, also lots of cushioning, but more stable with less heel drop, and more aggressive lugs. Those two cover really anything a hobbyist runner could need imo.
I totally agree, the design of the shoe is great! But I don‘t really know if I would get it.. probably as a running shoe and not necessarily for trail running 🤔
It is an amazing road running shoe that you can take on some light trails. I would not recommend it as a trail shoe that you can take to the mountains.
It is interesting that few years back this outsole would look like a standard road design. So, that is why I decided to get TR - to avoid sliding on wet roads, no matter is it an asphalt, stones, marble, sand or a bit mud.
I also got the Novablast 4 TR after years of basically no running and now beeing motivated and did lots of research. The TR Version ist excactly the same shoe (doesn't matter if Novablast 3 or 4) just with more rubber which leads to deeper grooves. That's all! There is nothing else changed. And this bit more rubber to get a little bit of "grooves" makes the shoe like 15g+ heavier or something - not even noticeable. I also used mine for the "trails" around my city, so like 15min flat asphalt, then steep uphill, flat, steep downhill, forest and ground mixed and although the stack hight is high and the Novablast 4 TR are not trail shoes, i had no problems with them. I mean, sure, I watched out of course, but it is no nightmare at all. Also, the Novablast 4 seems to have a wider base which makes them more stable against kipping when you step on larger stones sidewards. Here it was mostly roots (you step over) and foresty ground. And then 20-30 min asphalt home. It is my Asphalt shoe but when you run a little bit offroad, you can do that without having a too hard or a bad time.
Interested to hear how this shoes does on long runs on paved road. I hear grip isn't great on the regular version for wet conditions so thinking about getting the TR one instead even though I will mostly use it on road asphalt surface.
I would def. buy this shoes again if I could! It does really well on all types of runs. I however mostly run on gravel roads. How it would do on wet pavement, I cannot really tell you. But most likely better that the road version. Thanks for commenting :)

I got this shoe, but after a few runs I developed plantar fasciitis real bad on my left foot. I finally figured out that the shoe was too cushiony and causing me to over-pronate. I went back to a stability shoe and the pain went away rather quickly. I plan to only use this shoe for walks now.
Would these be good to use as road shoes in the winter? The less aggressive lugs make me think that it would be great for snow but not so much for aggressive trails…
I run only on paved surfaces, and considered buying this trail shoe for that.. My thoughts are that if there is less rubber contact on the pavement than it might be more diverse. Less rubber on the ground may help for landing.. And less rubber may make it easier to turn or flow through the gate cycle.. However, I hate shoes that dont breathe well... If I look inside the shoe and cannot see light through it, then it is likely too hot.. Especially if there are not visible breathing holes on he outside AND if it has a gusseted tongue. All that makes it too hot
They seemed warm on my run on the mountain. But I’ve had no breathability issues on my regular runs. ( however the days are pretty cool right now ) Not sure how they will be on hot summer days. I think the regular version might have less rubber on the outsole than the TR version.
@@chris.schmied ya, there may be more rubber on the TR version but I am thinking there is less contact area too.. And that is what I am thinking about. Less contact area creates a more free and nimble feeling even on pavement.

Not sure I can answer your question w the high arch. But you can definitely run 1600m in 7 minutes with this shoe. It does well on interval sessions :)
Novablast runs long (at least talking about US sizes). In the US sizes, it is often recommended to size down 1/2 unless you have wide feet in which case it can be too narrow if you size down. Typically, with 1/2 down you still have a thumb width space in front of your toes.
Thanks but no thanks. The street version (1) was already too clunky for me. I don't see any chance of this getting better with a trail version of the shoe
No, since the TR is excactly the same shoe, jus tthe outsole rubber is a little bit thicker, which creates a little deeper "grooves". That's it. And that additional rubber makes like 15g+ grams or so - not even noticeable.

I have the Trabuco Max. Very good shoes. I like them but they aren’t the most stable shoes for difficult terrain.
Trail or no trail, they're good looking shoes 😁
I appreciate that they have a decently roomy toe box for my toes to splay and not narrow and no pressure.
Absolutley, they are very comfortable!
Lovely review Chris , I enjoyed the beautiful view too 😁 just subscribed

I have the regular version novablast 3 and the grip is great even on corners. I would say this TR version will have an even better grip

Could you do a review of a shoe you recommend for technical trail runs/hikes? Thanks
I reviewed the Salomon s/lab Genesis. They are very good for technical trails. I even did some light climbing in them.

curious about the tongue. on the regular version it's a big problem, for me at least. it's too thin, slides down, and bunches up.
Hey! It’s pretty thin as well on the TR version. Haven’t had any problems so far though.

They work as an everyday trainer. I used them on easy runs and did some speedwork as well in them. They also did very well on the asphalt.
can I buy the trail version even for normal daily road usage? But only worried about weight since trail version is 30gms heavier than the normal one
I think it works very well as a road shoe. The weight is something you will have to decide with. I don’t mind heavier shoes if they perform well.
