In past employment, I generally had no issues learning new software. I often wrote instructions for using company programs. I am SO frustrated with setting up 1Password. IMHO the tutorials are too fast and not enough "visual" examples. I've has a free account for just a few days. If I can't figure this out, I won't be getting a paid account. ugghhhhh
Start off by seeing if slowing down the guy’s rate of speech is helpful. On the screen where you see the guy talking, look at the upper right cornet. You’ll see a cogwheel looking symbol, aka “icon”. That is the settings. Click on this cogwheel. You’ll see options for the rate of speech. It is defaulted to “normal”. You can slow it down to 0.75 speed, or 0.5 speed, etc. that will slow down how fast the guy talks. Then, you can take notes on paper. Hope this helps.
It's possible but unlikely. The attacker would need to get both the master password AND the secret key (which is less likely to happen). Add MFA to your account and you're even better protected. So while it's never 100% secure, with 1Password you are well protected.
Great video! Love your teaching style. As a former LastPass user this video convinced me to give 1Password a try. Love the secret phrase! Thank you so much!
Very well made tutorial! Can't wait to set it up this week. Got two questions for you please. 1- any experience exportig/importing passwords from apple devices/icloud? If so how was the process ? 2- Why did you have to "touch" your hardware key ? Even confused me when you were asked to do so during setup..
I’m just getting started and am at the point to export my passwords into 1Password and first get this message. I have a Mac and use Time Machine with an external hard drive. I assume long as that is not plugged in, I’m fine but, is there any other backup software I need to be concerned about? Once imported, and change the vulnerable passwords, will they automatically change on my iPad and iPhone? I did install 1Password on both those devices as well.
You should be fine as long as you don't have your backup drive plugged in. Just remember to empty your trash. As long as you installed 1Password on your other devices, it will all sync together. So you can reset on your Mac and it will work on your iPad and your iPhone.
Thank you Jason for sharing it. Quick question, can it be used within an incognito/private window in your browser? What if I used multiple browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, etc)?
@teachmecyber Wow... I think now, how Society is changing with the technologies - Someone Crazy - You, Eight Months ago put a mega hidden joke on this video, and Eight Months later Another Crazy one - I, find it! I don't know and can't say what the Future holds for us, but definitely Humans have Our Specific Human Things, like the Sense of Humor and the Desire for Socialization, which will not disappear no matter the technological development! I wish you all the best! ☺️☺️☺️
Found this very good and the first tutorial I understood. Yes a bit fast at talking but great summary and intro to something I’ve had for a year and couldn’t get to use as didn’t understand it. Now I’m back into using again. Thx and well done.
Thanks for the video. Based on this I am now trying to 14-day Family trail version. As far so good. I few notes. When you discussed 2FA you over looked that some people (i.e., me) do not have an 2FA app. I skipped this as it is too much to learn right now. I would like 2FA. Can 1Password use SMS for 2FA? Lastly, I need understand the needed for desktop app? That was not clear. I found out that 1Password would not work without this installed and always open. This is not an issue but it did confuse the setup. Thanks again
1Password does not support SMS for 2FA. Your best bet is to use an authenticater app (you can download Google Authenticator and use that) or buy a Yubikey.
New to setting up 1Password. One thing I've noticed is that my auto fill on some programs is no longer auto filling past entries. Is there a way to get that turned back on if you're using 1Password?
@Jason Rebholz very good job! Im curious when making the security key is it better to use a password generator offline and just copy and paste in a phrase or a bunch of random numbers and letters? Or make up my own? Also I wanted to know if you can take out passwords without it deleting the account for that password. Lets say i want 1password holding everything but not my gaming account and password if i dont want lets say that or a instagram account in there can i take it out without it deleting my account. Is it easy to basically import export One password at a time not all of them. So i can basically add only what i want.
This video was amazing. I was setting up my account while you were talking. Thanks! I have a question about the chrome extension. When I open 1 password, all the user names and passwords in my websites populate automatically. How can I prevent someone from accessing these websites if I walk away from my PC?
You can control the time for how long your vault stays open. If you're concerned about that (if you're in a place with many people and you don't lock your computer), you can put that to a super low timeout
Can my wife and I share an individual account or would I need to get the family plan? Also can more than one phone be setup for 2FA? Thx for informative video!
If I dont currently have a password manager and want to start using this, do I have to figure out my current passwords from all my apps, emails etc and type them into 1Password vault manager?
If you have them saved somewhere like your browser, you can export them. If you're just going off of memory, you can add them in over time as you visit websites
Question: You created a password for Coursera and at 16:27 you change the password with 1password shouldn't you update the password on coursera site too? How do Coursera know that you changed the password for password123?
No need to change your passwords after you switch. You'll just need to export your passwords from your existing password manager and then import it into 1Password (be sure to delete the password export when you're done!) After you import them, I would take a look at WatchTower. If there are any weak passwords or ones that have been identified in another data breach, I would just change those as a precautionary measure.
Do you suggest saving the export unto a zip drive before deleting. Lastly what do you do with all your information still on ie lastpass. Is there to delete all your information from there.@@teachmecyber
As long as you have the passwords imported into the new password manager, no need to keep that backup. You can delete your passwords from the lastpass vault.
Useful video! ...how does it work on IOS, for example, I have many apps on there if I were to use 1Password to sign in from my iPhone would I need to remove the apps first before installing 1Password? I use Face ID on my iPhone.
It works really well! You don't need to remove any apps. After you install the mobile app, it will prompt you at logins if you want to use it to pull a password
I’m a last pass user and decided to trial 1Pass. What really concerns me is this one key that I have to save someplace ??!! What now I have to go buy a safe to keep it in? Seems like a security flaw to me!
I’m confused about the mfa, when you set up a website adding a mfa, do you have to use it every time you go to that website? I can see it makes the website more secure, but it would seem to take away the advantage of not having to remember passwords.
I've had a few requests for this. I need to research more on recording it. In the past, when I've tried it doesn't record properly because the app prevents screen recording (which is great!)
If you allow 1Password to handle 2FA automagically, doesn't that negate the whole point? Whats the point of turning it on if 1Pass will handle it. Anyone that gets your phone and the account is logged in essentially has the keys to the kingdom... why make it easier for them? Its another layer of security removed. Right?
I really appreciate your knowledge and willingness to help others set this up. Alas, I am another oldster who lost you when you started to set up MFA. You certainly know your stuff but you are assuming a level of understanding that we beginners don't have. Many terms and abbreviations might as well be in a foreign language. Wait a minute - this is a foreign language! Spouse and I will try to set up 1Password and perhaps come back here with questions as they come up. One question: What exactly is the "secret key" - is it yet another password to remember or something else?
how does it work for family use? is there only one password and everyone uses it? Or does each user make their own, if so then how does it identify which family you're in? If there's only one password, what happens when everyone has gmail, or banking apps, or zoom, etc etc.? How can they sign in separately? None of these tutorials address this.
Each family member has their own login and their own vault. So you won't be able to see each other's passwords unless you share them with each other or put them in a shared vault.
it would be good to folow the process of changing passwords in conjunction with a web site..Seeing th flow would be good..................Possible next time!
Thank you for the great video. I am finally deciding to go with a PM and 1password looks to be the one, at present. The one place where I was hoping to get some clarification in the video, you started but then veered off. Is it possible to change passwords for a site FROM WITHIN 1password? In the vid, you did this with the Coursera site, and made it a really bad choice. However, you didn't really talk about that after that point. Let's say it wasn't a poor choice, but a randomly generated strong password. Now, the next time I go to Coursera, 1password has the wrong credentials, does it not? This was a huge confusion to me as to how or why you would edit the password from inside 1password. Can you explain for me? It would be great if there was a magic button that could go through my hundreds of passwords and auto-change them but I'd settle for even one at a time, if I could do it from the 1password application or web page. Thanks!
Unfortunately you can't change it from within the password manager. When you change you password on a site, it will prompt a new password and ask if you want to update the existing one or create a new entry in the password manager.
I keep trying to install the 1Password for Mac, but every time I put in my password, it says "That didn't work". I don't know how to move forward from here.
This seems generally well-presented, but as I haven't started to use 1Password yet I have several questions which are not obvious. For example, if I set up a 25 character password and I get logged out after a time-out, do I have to enter all 25 characters next time I want to log into a web site? And how long is the secret key? If 4-6 characters I can remember it, but if longer I cannot. So where do I store it? And then there is a reference to "a favourite authenticator". I don't know what this means. I don't have such a thing. Indeed some applications, including credit card transaction, sent a code to my 'phone, but does this mean something different? IS this "authenticator" an application on a device, or simply a mobile phone number? What is worrying is that I have (very) many years of computer experience. One of my friends invented WWW and I started computing by written a convolution integral in IBM 360 machine code! Thus, what people with no technical background will make of all this I can't imagine - but see comment below!
On a new website, it suggests a paaword to use - how does it know the rules of that password? Length, upper & lower case, symbols, numbers. Or do just try the suggestion and if rejected confirgure 1Password password generator?
It won't know the rules the website is requiring. I default to trying to suggestion (which will follow best practices) and if necessary tweak it if the website rejects it. Thankfully that only happens once in a while.
For the MFA - when it asks you to "touch your security key," what are you doing when you go off camera? Is this a joke or are you actually doing somethig?
I'm actually touching the yubikey I have in my laptop. It has a sensor in it that you need to touch. For the biometric yubikey, it will scan your fingerprint.
1password only support autofill on url link in my mobile phone but doesnt support android app in my samsung ultra s24. I have already tick autofill and selected 1 password as prefered password service. I m totally pissed off as have spent 3 hrs in enabling 1 password for my mobile app.
Ugh. Just went through on my mac and updated all of my vulnerable passwords, however, no longer able to login to anything on ipad and iphone. Passwords are incorrect.
Excellent video. I will be using this tutorial when I sign up for 1Password. My only complaint (a minor one) is your face in the video with rather distracting as it takes away from the tutorial screen view. Nothing personal but what value is there to the viewer to see your face? Again, great video and thank you.
There's no way to customize a new password suggested by 1Password when you're registering on a website. You have to use what it suggests. I hope they add the ability to customize.
It can be a bit clunky. You can preset specifics in the password generator and select it to be used as the default for suggestions. Not perfect, but it's a workaround if you're looking to modify.
I love the idea too, and you are an excellent videographer; but as a senior not brought up on computers, I still have difficulty getting how to do this. Examples of where I got stuck: "pass phrase"- had to stop and look it up. "MFA" - What's that? Ahh, multi factor authentication. "Hardware key" - Show us what one looks like and how you actually use it. (I saw you press something off camera.) I began to get lost on "Install 1Password on Windows" section. I didn't understand which passwords you were referring to at times--the ones I already had or the new 1p password. It was a little too fast for me as I am unfamiliar with where you are clicking. I'm going to keep re-listening to this over again though until I get it. None of my remarks are meant to downplay the excellence of your video. I'm sure the vast majority of people watching this had no problems whatsoever. Just trying to explain where us older folks get hung up. Thank you so much for making this video!
MFA stands for multi-factor authentication. It is a secondary way to prove that it is you who is logging in. There are various methods for this. It includes a mobile app on your phone that has a rotating six digit code or text messages to your phone (less secure).
Thanks for that idea. I've been thinking about doing one of those. I've gotten some comments recently where some weren't sure what Authenticator apps are!
@@teachmecyber Thanks for the quick reply. Not to be ungrateful and I can only point to my own lack of knowledge, but I miss a little more information about how a password manager works in general. Do you have to have an app on each device, how is it handled on a daily basis, is it easy to integrate with the normal apps you use, what about emails and what about Apps outside the US? etc. It's probably easy for some, but if you don't know anything about it, you probably start somewhere else. That's just what I meant. Otherwise, thanks for a good video.
The graphic interface of this app absolutely sucks! It makes no sense. The "Home" portion is super confusing and doesn't show my vaults, which is where I would start when I log in to access my items. You have to click on "Items" to access your "vaults". Maybe it's because it's all new to me but it has been a real pain in the ass to get set up correctly and learn how to navigate.
It tries to optimize so it goes to the password you need based on the website (assuming you have autofill enabled). You can change the starting point by going to settings and selecting "Appearances and Shortcuts". Then change where it loads to.
super good communicator. Not one Um, Like. However, I'm still pretty mystified by the vocabulary and will probably try to find an in-person tutor i.e. a 15-year-olf boy, LOL
This is horrible! Signed up and the first time I go to sign in my password is not recognized. I wrote down the password so I know it is correct. Requested that they cancel my account and refund me.
Both are great options! I like Bitwarden because of the advanced configurations you can do (as well as the ability to host your own instance). I find that 1Password is very good for less technical users (e.g. it's something I would recommend to my family who doesn't care about better settings). For Bitwarden, with changing the KDR to Argon2id, you're in a great position for keeping your passwords secure. You don't have the ability in 1password to change the KDF.
It's not really easy, especially when going 100 MPh. Also, you didn't show how to add our own established passwords and on how to use it on a mobile device.
NOT for beginners. Speaks very quickly and assumes a lot of knowledge. I don't have an "authenticator app" or know what one is. Ditto for the hardware key. What do you mean you have it plugged in already? Is it a physical piece of hardware?
I'm sorry you didn't feel this was a beginner level. An authenticator app is a phone app that provides you a two factor authentication code. The most popular are Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator. Both are free! For the hardware key, it is a physical device. It looks like a little USB thumb drive that you plug into your computer.
😂 that would be a bad day! That's why the recovery kit is so important. It's worth printing that out and keeping it handy just in case they lose the secret key!
Define what acronyms are. Don't assume people are tech savvy. MFA? Also what are you doing when you "touch" your hardware key. What is the hardware key- a flash drive? Too cumbersome to set up........................................
An option I use when the content is hard to follow is tapping the settings cog on the video. A drop down menu appears and you can choose a playback speed. It’s in increments of .75/ .5 /or .25 this can make it easier to follow along. I find if I engage this feature and use the pause button the content is easier to absorb. Sorry Jason, enabling this makes you sound a bit tipsy.
I clicked for a "tutorial", and got a "lengthy sales pitch" first. People looking for a TUTORIAL shouldn't have to waste thir time on a lengthy sales pitch. Booo.

We appreciate this instruction. Excellent job presenting the hurdles and how to jump them.
Thanks for watching!
If someone steals your computer or phone, can they login using saved passwords? Does it need 2 FA each time you enter a password on a website?
The password vault is encrypted and locked on your device. As long as the thief doesn't have your master password, your passwords will be safe.

I keep trying to install the 1Password for Mac, but every time I put in my password, it says "That didn't work". I don't know how to move forward from here.
It's likely that you're mistyping the master password. Are you able to login to the website?
Update. I’m the grandmother. Apparently there are no instructions for grandmothers! Where can I get help?
Where are you currently getting blocked?
Thanks, you're awesome
Thanks for watching!
Love that left side mono audio bro...
Ugh. Just went through on my mac and updated all of my vulnerable passwords, however, no longer able to login to anything on ipad and iphone. Passwords are incorrect.
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. What steps did you take to update the vulnerable passwords?
Jason - TLDR :: I didn’t research this.. what is the lowest tier plan that allows SSO?
It's only supported in the business plan.
How do I know that they do not. See it
Great video!!! Thanks!!
I tried to set it up, but im clueless. I gave up and deleted it
Excellent video. I will be using this tutorial when I sign up for 1Password. My only complaint (a minor one) is your face in the video with rather distracting as it takes away from the tutorial screen view. Nothing personal but what value is there to the viewer to see your face? Again, great video and thank you.
Thanks for that feedback. I've removed that from more recent videos as I also found it to not be necessary.
Thank you so much for making this video!
ok it is helpful thanks you
MFA ?
Are you asking what MFA is?
@@teachmecyber yes
@@teachmecyber yes
MFA stands for multi-factor authentication. It is a secondary way to prove that it is you who is logging in. There are various methods for this. It includes a mobile app on your phone that has a rotating six digit code or text messages to your phone (less secure).
@@teachmecyber 👍🙂 thank you!
idk if its my headset but i hate that your only in my left ear
Weird! Might be your headset

@@teachmecybernow that I got you I would love to see a best Authenticator app review
Thanks for that idea. I've been thinking about doing one of those. I've gotten some comments recently where some weren't sure what Authenticator apps are!
Thanks, men I’m sorry, it’s not really for beginners to password managers. A good video though😊
Thanks for that feedback! What would you find more useful for a true beginners guide to password managers?
@@teachmecyber Thanks for the quick reply. Not to be ungrateful and I can only point to my own lack of knowledge, but I miss a little more information about how a password manager works in general. Do you have to have an app on each device, how is it handled on a daily basis, is it easy to integrate with the normal apps you use, what about emails and what about Apps outside the US? etc.
It's probably easy for some, but if you don't know anything about it, you probably start somewhere else. That's just what I meant. Otherwise, thanks for a good video.
Thanks, this is very helpful feedback for future videos!
What is your favorite authenticator app mean?????
Dang, by the time you got to the 30th key and 17th password, I gave up.
womp womp
I get why a work might use this but why would I pay $40 a year in perpituity for a service that google offers for free with its free web browser
Good 🎉
The graphic interface of this app absolutely sucks!
Is there anything I can help clarify for you?
Thanks, I think I am an experiential learner and will do better with a tutor. @@teachmecyber
Feel free to hit me up with questions, happy to help where I can!
I used to like LastPass. Now I hate LastPass! I'll be switching.
This is horrible! Signed up and the first time I go to sign in my password is not recognized. I wrote down the password so I know it is correct. Requested that they cancel my account and refund me.
Are you considering using 1Password and stop using Bitwarden?
Both are great options! I like Bitwarden because of the advanced configurations you can do (as well as the ability to host your own instance).
I find that 1Password is very good for less technical users (e.g. it's something I would recommend to my family who doesn't care about better settings).
For Bitwarden, with changing the KDR to Argon2id, you're in a great position for keeping your passwords secure. You don't have the ability in 1password to change the KDF.
@@teachmecyber I will stick with Bitwarden then :)
Bitwarden is damn ugly, UI bad design
@@JohnSmith-zl8rz Ugly, but it just works so well on all websites I use :)
good
Thank you gorgeous
Познавательно

I don't want any one going into my bank 4:48
Thanks Daniel. I downloaded the authenticator app and located a hardware key to purchase. @@teachmecyber
Agree with Kathy. You lost me at authenticator app!
Thanks for that feedback, I'll be sure to go deeper into authenticator apps in future videos!
❤
So.....this software is for people who forget their passwords....what if they forget where their secret key is?😂
😂 that would be a bad day! That's why the recovery kit is so important. It's worth printing that out and keeping it handy just in case they lose the secret key!
@@teachmecyber very true
Hay
too complex to set up. Plus you require to physically store secret key
How i earn free in Pakistan?
password tutorial
So poorly done for a so-called "beginner". What's a hardware key? What does MFA mean?
this is not what I was expecting from this video...
Not easy
The process needs practicing over time
Define what acronyms are. Don't assume people are tech savvy. MFA? Also what are you doing when you "touch" your hardware key. What is the hardware key- a flash drive? Too cumbersome to set up........................................
It seems that you think the faster you talk the easier the app seems, NOT. Try this out on your grandmother first. Easier for you difficult for me.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help clear anything up for you.
Haha all good! If it helps, I'm all for it
Are we really still using not 🤦
There is a way to update the speed for it to be slower.
No
I am the slowest that is how they change my setting
I clicked for a "tutorial", and got a "lengthy sales pitch" first. People looking for a TUTORIAL shouldn't have to waste thir time on a lengthy sales pitch. Booo.
Complicated
Sorry this didn't resonate with you. Let me know what questions you have.
If it was super easy to use, your video wouldn't be 22 minutes long. hhahahahaha
How to add a new password? Not just website, but a new password por things i dont have a website!!!
too much trouble in set up!
