Mine is going strong on original battery after 3 years mowing about 6,000 sf a week. My nice yard and marginal unoccupied neighbors yard for free. Sharpen blade often and keep it clean.
Cool. Glad to hear it's lasting. Thanks for the tips!
Only thing I don't like about such cordless or non-gasoline powered devices is that extra batteries (not just one extra) are an absolute must.
At least they are swappable. The batteries in the B&D CMM1000 weren't. If you didn't finish in 1 charge, you had to plug the whole mower in and wait.
Man that was a good deal. They just had a program in Salt Lake City gave vouchers for $299.00 with gas mower trade in. Got it for $1.08. The 8 cents was the tax.
I thoguht it was a good deal too... until I heard someone got one for $1.08 :-)
Yeah I just got my socialist mower from the same state program! I’m pretty stoked
If you take advantage of Socialist programs, guess what?
You ARE a socialist! 🤦🏼♂️
I have this, though the newer version. My battery lasts a full 45-60 minutes. About 4-6 bags full of clippings.
Overall I love it. Though it still feels weird to not have a gas engine
I think the newer ones ship with a higher capacity battery (5 or 6 ah instead of 2.5 like I have). I am pretty happy with mine as well. I just bought a Kobalt string trimmer to go with it. That came with a 5ah battery, so I'll be able to share that with my mower. I'll probably have a video about the trimmer up in the next couple of weeks.
I have the exact same model and it no longer starts. It stoppedworking while mowing a typical lawn. Batteries are not the problem, it just won't start. If yours stops working and you fix it, I would love to see that future video.
That is unfortunate. If you bought it new from Lowes, I believe it has a 5 year warranty.
@@TheFixitShed I did buy it at Lowes, I will see if I can track down the purchase date. Thanks... It has been a pretty good mower overall. Not as powerful as a gas mower, but powerful enough for my needs. I like that it does not require the regular maintenance of a gas mower and love the instant electric start.
Did you check the handle? It must be fully extended and locked, for the mower to work.
@@nrnobleThey can pull up your receipt with the card used to purchase it
Oh wow, I remember the black and Decker cordless mowers, I started with it too
i like how elctric mowers are getting better and better, i got ryobi myself though their line was rocky at first. Batteries were hell till they larger better ones. Though happy with one i got 2 years ago which was better than last 2 ryobi mowers, im still looking at other brands for future. Ones with decent batteries that dont drain completely after mowing back yard before moving to front one and batteries dont cost a lot as one problems with some electric mowers. Kobalt looks decent, though that may be because i love color of blue lol
Yes, they will get better with time and prices should come down.
Funny putting this next to my old Murray selfpropell gas mower this thing can only be called a toy. It may work but in a fight my Murry would have eaten & spit this thing out. Picked this now because am older with health issues and this offers no pull start and little to no maintenance. Bought the selfpropell version and gass is about 500 sqft.
While I find the kobalt adequate, I have noticed thaty my 13amp B&D corded mower has more oomph to get through the thick stuff than the 40v Max. I want to try the 80v Max to see if it is better.
@@TheFixitShed have you found a cordless leaf blower that also vacumms and mulches, I haven't. My corded Weed Eater does both the whole selling point behind cordless is simply battery powered but none can beat corded or come close to gas powered. We had a sunbeam electric mower back in 70s and it was loud and did a great job but the extension cord was a pain. Finaly bent the blade shaft on a tree root, then went to gas.
I'm looking at Kobalt 40 volt 5 ah battery,I have a cordless mower now it's 14" to many passes.I had a chance to barrow a wider one big differance in mowing time.
Depending on the size of your yard, I think the 5ah battery is a good choice. I don't feel like I can get much done with the 2.5. Having 2 of them helps.
great review, nice camera work thanks for posting!
I am glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting!
Good video, we have the 40 Max brushless. I screwed up, backing up the truck, and clipped the front right tire. Replacement is on order. When I replace it, it looks like it is a socket situation, to remove the nut ... I want to make sure I don't break anything. Any thoughts?
Nope. It looks pretty straight forward. I just popped one of the caps off of the wheel on mine. Just unbolt the old one and bolt the new one on. Biggest suggestion is to be careful when backing up the truck :-)
I got the 5a battery it mows 10 thousand square feet with a quarter battery left.
Thanks! I was looking at the newer ones and it looks like they are now shipping mostly with 5ah batteries.
That’s pretty good
bought a second hand one but it didn’t have the bag with with. anyone know where i can purchase one? haven’t been able to find one
The manual (which you probably didn't get buying used) shows some parts you can get, including bag.
"For replacement parts, call our customer service department at 1-888-3KOBALT (1-888-356-2258),8 a.m. - 8 p.m., EST, Monday - Friday."
Debating on this or the makita, hard to choose. Seen some good reviews on both products
Check replacement parts. Other than the batteries, people have a hard time getting parts for the Kobalt.
@@TheFixitShed I keep that in mind. Has a Ryobi that have for three years and been meaning to try out another brand. Something that's good against grass when it gets thick and batteries don't drain too quickly or are too expensive for decent quality
Thanks This is the future. But I fix gas mowers LOL. All is good. When I get bit older i won't be fixing gas mowers. All is good.
Thanks, Bruce. Love your videos! I have learned a lot from you
You got a big ol yard. Lol might need more battery life lol
I really just got it for trimming. I used it more in the video than I will regularly just to see how much it could do. I use my Ariens rider to do most of the yard, but parts of it are carved up into little pieces, and the big mower is just a pain to maneuver in there. I actually gave one of the 2.5 ah batteries to my son for his mower. He had one 4 ah battery, and does a big yard with it. He just spreads it out over a couple days.
Shame i dont here more about the kobolt, i still got ryobo but know few people who say kobalt is comparible to ryobi but dont really hear too much about this mower. Love to see some videos pitting ryobi and kobalt mowers against each other.
If I can find one, I might just do that.
My 40v kobalt weed wacker 2.0 amp charger/battery refused to charge for more than 3 seconds at a time after 3 seasons. The individual cells seem good. It's probably a hardware issue in either the battery or charger. Not getting full use out of a limited life battery is unacceptable to me. I think I should have bought the echo years ago.
That is unfortunate. I have 4 batteries (2.5v, 2.5v, 4v, 5v) that I share between 2 mowers and a weed whacker. They were all used when I got them, so I don't know how old the batteries are. I have had them for a year +, and they seem fine, so hopefully they will last longer than that.
I just charged my batteries cells 3 at a time for 20 mins each using a 2 amp setting on a 12v battery charger. Then I used the trimmer for about 10 mins. I left the screws out of the battery pack and I stays in tight. I think I'm going to finish out the year this way then toss it. With a 43 volt charge the charger won't even light nor will the battery inficator display anything, yet it trimmed for 15 mins.
Any bright ideas on the self propel feature not working, and the left rear wheel locking up? Neither Lowe's nor Kobalt have been any help. The mower is three years old and was push only last summer, now the drive wheel is stuck. Too expensive to only work right for that long.
I haven't seen one of these yet, so not sure how they work, but there are probably either gears or belts from the electric motor to the wheels. It is possible some debris got in there and is jamming it up, Or the belt is out of place.
If it has a belt and you don't mind using it as a push mower, remove the belt. I agree, it should not have failed this soon, and Kobalt support leaves a lot to be desired.
Are there any tutorials on converting the mower to use 2 batteries instead of the one? It has the extra slot to hold a spare.
None that I know of. Mine don't have the extra slot. If it is non functional, who would want to be pushing around the extra battery weight?
Do they make a battery compartment cover replacement?
I haven't been able to find any parts like that for this mower, just things like: wheels, dishcharge plug, bag, etc.
@@TheFixitShed same here 😩
Good Review 4⭐+ & The BLades All Need Sharpening@Most Mowers Reviews i`~Been Seem DulL. BLades Easy to Remove Looks Like.
Thanks ! yes, very easy blade removal
Yea it’s cool when you cut on cut grass but boooyyyyy….. that first cut gon be rough 😂😂
Not really. I have used it to hack down tall, thick grass and weeds. It has plenty of power to get the job done. It will drain the battery a bit faster, but that doesn't concern me
@@TheFixitShed maybe I need to sharpen my blade a lot more and recharge the battery because this small 1 foot of Florida grass and weeds has won for today. Thank you for showing me how to use this thing 👍🤘
I left my lawnmower for 2 years and now it won’t start wondering if it has a warranty?
Probably not for more than 2 years, but maybe. check with where you bought it. Do you think it is the mower or the battery?
If bought from Lowes , mower has a 5 year warranty and battery 3 year
How long do these batteries work?? For
If you mean lifespan, I have two Kobalt mowers and a Kobalt string trimmer, all of which I bough used 2+ years ago. The batteries that came with them were 2 2AH batteries, a 4AH and a 5AH. I don't know how old they were when I got them, and I have not had to replace any yet.
If you are asking how long does a charge last, it can vary depending on the condition of the grass you are cutting, but for me, I have found that usually the 2AH batteries are good for about 10 minutes in the mower, the 4AH you get around 20 and the 5AH 25 minutes or so.
@@TheFixitShed thank you for your videos and response awesome work!!!!
battery is stuck Help!
Did something break? is something else jammed in there with the battery? It is just the button and the spring. if you can depress the button, the spring will push the battery out (unless something is broken or wedged in there).
Your battery lasted longer than mine did. And I charged it the 2nd time too. What a waste of time n $
That is unfortunate. Was yours used? What AH bbattery did you get with it?
