    I love that Dr. Pennington basically summarized his doctoral dissertation findings, which he also gives in his 400 page book “Heaven and Earth in the Gospel of Matthew”, in less than 2 minutes at 3:38

    Great question and discussion. From my experience "eternal life" is what the church talks about to drive people to alter calls, aka accept Christ.
    Kingdom of God is what more mature Christians seek as they become true deciples of Christ.
    Sadly most conservative Christians never mature to the decipleship stage of maturity because it goes against "rugged individualism" and other selfish conservative politics.

    This is really good and I hope you know it's not just helpful to kids. In fact I would suggest to take this series and put a new thumbnail on them and say that they're also for new believers and Christians who are looking to build on their knowledge of God. I've been a Christian for 27 years I've been preaching the Word of God for 24 years, I'm an educated man and I've studied the Word a lot, but I'm always looking for new ways to better align my understanding with God's truth. And this is helpful to me. I'm 53, but I'm going to keep on watching these videos for the " kids " :-)

    Im confused with this thinking too. I get the huge part about our salvation means we are part of God's kingdom and to grow it. Im fine with heaven and earth meet at the end of time for eternity. If u are still saying that. I dont get that John 3:16 doesn't mean that as believers we will not perish, but have eternal life.. eternity.... Is a promise. He makes it sound worse than what we have ever learned. Im not sure on it or I misunderstand it.

    Christianity is about THIS life, not some future Sky Life. Eternal is a quality of life, not a quantity of life. The Realm of Heaven is at hand!

    It's not actually that surprising that it's hard to find Christian kingdom language in the Hebrew bible 🤔

      Really? The whole point of Israel was to be such a kingdom - Deuteronomy 4:5-8 as an example. I understand Israel being a blessing to the nations to be the Messiah who will come through them and usher in a kingdom that fulfills the purpose outlined in that Deuteronomy passage. Taking care of the sin problem results in people living in a kingdom where what the King wants done is done - that is to say, we end up living in right relationship with God and with each other. Following Jesus, trusting in Him that we really can live the way He taught us to live, is what leads to that kind of kingdom.

    Sorry Dr Pennington but the Kingdom has not yet come. If it has I'm very disappointed!!
    And you say that it's not much in the Old Testament???
    Man! It's all through the Hebrew Scriptures!! Here are some examples:
    What Does the Bible Say About the Kingdom of God?
    Old Testament
    1 Chronicles 29:11
    Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.
    Psalm 24:10
    Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord of hosts,
    he is the King of glory! Selah
    Psalm 45:6
    Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.
    The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;
    Psalm 103:19
    The LORD has established his throne in the heavens,
    and his kingdom rules over all.
    Isaiah 9:6-7
    For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
    and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
    Of the increase of his government and of peace
    there will be no end,
    on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    to establish it and to uphold it
    with justice and with righteousness
    from this time forth and forevermore.
    The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
    Isaiah 32:1
    Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
    and princes will rule in justice.
    Isaiah 33:22
    For the Lord is our judge;
    the Lord is our lawgiver;
    the Lord is our king;
    he will save us.
    Isaiah 52:7
    How beautiful upon the mountains
    are the feet of him who brings good news,
    who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
    who publishes salvation,
    who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
    Daniel 7:27
    And the kingdom and the dominion
    and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven
    shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High;
    his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom,
    and all dominions shall serve and obey him.’
    Zechariah 14:9
    And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.

    Well, actually….there is a difference. Eternal life is the result of living in the Kimgdom of God. Eternal life happens after death ( or at the return of Christ and the resurrection) Hope that helps. ;)

      Might be better to say eternal life starts the moment you put your full trust in Jesus. John 11:26 As for a definition of eternal life, Jesus gives one Himself in John 17:3: "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (Know meaning experiential knowledge, not just factual knowledge.)

      I agree and don't want to misunderstand. But my entire life John 3:16 was the 1st verse we learn. I dont want to take away from that we will live forever , eternity in heaven on earth or with Jesus is HUGE... We will live forever..

      @@ThePaulWilliams I agree. However, we do die on this earth….eternal life is after death and/ or in the New World to come once Christ returns. Just saying. ;)

      @@midnightexpress726 Maybe it's all just semantics, but did you actually read John 11:26? I'll let you argue that one out with Jesus ;)

      @@ThePaulWilliams I do agree with you ( and Jesus) ;) Just saying….my dad passed away last year, while he was alive on earth, we all knew he would one day pass away, now ( and in the future) he will enjoy eternal life…no more death. That’s all I’m saying brother. There is a general process to all of this. But yes….when we have Jesus, we do have life eternal in our hearts…just not in our bodies just yet. :)

    Cash that dnc check and go home. Progressive “Christian” rhetoric is out.
