    8:32 why the pressure of point E is not multiplied by (4-(1/3)*3) just like the Pressure D , because the triangular load does not reach point C too so why we only considered the rest of triangle ? that way it doesn't get to C the water level is only 3m and the point C is 4m

    • @fxnoob7486
      @fxnoob7486 2 месяца назад

      Yes, the distance should be 3 .

    Only just the moment arm for the resultant force on the left should be 4m minus a 3rd of 3m..great work man! Thanks

    Question: When taking the Moment about C at 8:18 , you use 3-1 for the distance for the left side, but 4- 2/3 for the distance on the right. If you want the distance from point C shouldn't both use the height of the tide gate (which is 4m) instead of the height of the water line (which is the 3m)? I may be missing something obvious

    • @Bynopticslash
      @Bynopticslash 3 года назад +6

      I think there is a slight error in that the distance from point C to the left force is 3 and not 2, but overall great video very helpful thank you

      @IGJTHOMAS 2 года назад +5

      yes, slight error on the moment, to find Dx. Value for Dx is right. (4-1/3*3) and (4-1/3*2)

    • @zidanezharfansyah3300
      @zidanezharfansyah3300 Год назад +1

      yes, I think there's a slight error there. I calculated it and I got the height between point C and F left at (4 - 1/3 * 3) or ( 1 + 2/3 * 3 ) = 3m. the mistake he made was he didn't add the height from the water surface A to Cx. cmiiw

    And yet people keep on thinking that a dam is "holding" the whole reservoir of water that is behind it, as if the whole weight of all water was pushing against the dam. Example: every B1M video on that subject.

    why did you take the inverse slope in the triangular load expression , plus the pressure should be negative since the slope is going down

    It's fun to look at, but in a practical way, it's not that useful, and nice time to waste. If anyone likes to learn some good practical examples, then start practicing Ansys CFD examples it's the best way to understand fluid mechanics.
